    Thank you. Your video inspired me to change my own spark plugs. You made it look so simple and easy. I bought 4 plugs (iridium), a 3" socket extension, and a packet of grease. $62.00. Then I had to go back to the parts store for a 6" extension and a 5/8 spark plug socket. $14. So it cost me $76 and I saved $119. It finally dawned on me, you did the easy one. The rest, while simple, were not easy. The whole thing was done in 5½ hours, which includes pauses for bandaging my hands, retrieving parts and tools from under the car, the second trip to the parts store, and taking a dose of Tylenol. I basically hurt all over, but I DID IT!!!

      Well, it was the easiest one to see with the camera. The more you do it, the easier it becomes, so it didn't seem all that hard to do the other ones for me, but I am glad you did it and hopefully it makes you more maintenance!

    Hey, thanks Matthew! You saved me a bundle. Several places wanted to charge me between $350-450 to change spark plugs, and even buying all the tools and parts, including a torque wrench (paranoid about stripping the aluminum) was only about $40-45 or something like that and only took me about 15 minutes.

    Thanks for the video! My 2007 fit was misfiring on cylinder 4, according to my engine codes. It was losing power when accelerating up hills, and it was idling rough. I used this video to change all the plugs, and now it's working great!

    From what I see, before any removing and unplugging, it is best to blow the dust off so no debris gets into plug holes. This is good to know.

    Great DIY video. A "torque wrench" could be added to the tool list. These are cheap, easy to use, easy to find and prevent any number of issues a beginner might run into.
    Also an inexpensive swivel spark plug socket comes in handy when working on Hondas. Look up "GearWrench 80546 5/8-Inch x 6-Inch Swivel Spark Plug Socket" on Amazon.
    Spark plugs can be purchased pre-gapped ( .052) for about $9 each (NGK IZFR6K13 Laser Iridium Spark Plug).
    Sometimes spark plugs are suspected as a problem when a bad coil is really to blame. Hitachi makes replacement ignition coils that are OEM and run about $50 on Amazon and a few dollars less at other online parts stores like Rock Auto. The earlier Fits use " IGC0053" and then the later models use ignition coil "Hitachi IGC0073" (so double check the application for your model year) Hopefully the ignition coil issue will be addressed by the new (2015 model) 1.5 engine with multi-hole direct-injection and a higher compression ratio (in North America Spring of 2014). Hopefully Honda will get direct-injection right and not end up carbon build up on the back of the intake valve (as others have).

      @goddom  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the very informative comment! Yes, a torque wrench would be a good addition to the list, I will add it to the description. Again, thank you.

    By configuration you are asking which cylinders are two and four? Cylinder 4 is the once closest to the transmission. Cylinder 1 is the one closest to the accessory belt aka serpentine belt aka alternator belt. They are in numeric order. If you keep having this issue, try getting some dielectric grease - they sell small packets specifically for spark plugs at the autoparts store. Put it where the plug and "wire" connect (actually its the coil but traditionally its a wire). Hope this helps!

    • @goddom
      @goddom  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rebekah Campa Yep, that is correct. Make sure you push them down all the away and I would suggest using a little dialectric grease just to keep a good connection with the spark plug.

  • @icyborg6065

    and what is the criteria to replace the coils? I always understood, best time to replace them was at the time you are replacing your spark plugs.

    • @goddom
      @goddom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Coils can be expensive and they aren't that hard to replace, so my opinion is to replace them when they go bad. Usually this will be a mis-fire on one cylinder.

    • @goddom
      @goddom  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. They can last a pretty decent amount of time. Though it would have been better to replace them sooner since they were probably not as efficient and therefore didn't burn the fuel as well.

    The boot on the coil got stuck inside the engine when I tried to pull it out. Any suggestions??

    • @goddom
      @goddom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I haven't responded earlier but I was out of town and didn't have internet. So I would try removing the spark plug, then using a screw driver to try and pry a part of the boot away from the edge. Possibly even working my way around it. Then trying to use some needle nose vice grips to try and pull it out. May or may not work. The idea would be to try and not let anything fall into the cylinder since the spark plug is removed. If any of the plastic does, it will probably be OK since it will likely just get carbonized and blown out the exhaust.

    Hey Matthew Eddy , do you use "irridium" or simple ?
    1.2 I-DSI or 1.4 ?

    • @goddom
      @goddom  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iridium lasts longer, but is a lot more expensive, so its kind of personal choice. I think platnium are a good middle ground that lasts longer than the copper ones but not as expensive as the iridium.

    In the 2009 Honda fit there is very little clearance to get back and take the plugs out. What is your suggestion on getting more clearance so that you can get a socket wrench in to begin removing the spark plugs. Thanks Great video.

    • @goddom
      @goddom  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gary sowell Sorry for the late reply. I am not sure Ill have to look at a 2009 - which I will try to do in the near future. Off the cuff try using a u-joint on your ratchet. Sometimes getting even just a few degree off center helps give you the clearance you need. Also you can try using two 3" extensions - once the spark plug is loose you remove one extension and that gives you enough clearance to pull the spark plug out. Again, Ill try and see if I can look at a 2009 model to give you some more specific recommendations.

    • @goddom
      @goddom  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      NGKs are the number one choice - pretty much for any Japanese engine. I used Autolites because I was in a hurry and the store didn't have NGKs at the time. Which may sound unusual but I live in Michigan and foreign cars are not as popular.
