Star Wars literally starts off with writing on a screen to tell everyone what has happened?! What’s the freaking difference?! This nit pickery is just ridiculous, go and watch a movie you like instead of being upset by something that’s clearly not for you, you’re owed nothing
No, snyders character development is putting them in a traumatic event and make them find a way to fight themselves out of it, and using slow motion to emphesise the actors acting skills to convey that trauma. Often with ether a voice over by the character, a supporting character or an artist singing a song that literally spells out what the characters motivations or feelings are
Why can’t Snyder just made his movie good without the director’s cut? Everyone else can do it but somehow it’s always him to have at least 3 cuts for each of his movie.
Right? Look at other directors like Peter Jackson and James Cameron who had theatrical cuts of Lord of the Rings, Avatar, and Terminator that absolutely worked and their directors cut only added to the cinematic experience. Snyder relies on his director’s cut to fix narrative and pacing issues in his movies which tells me a lot of his storytelling skills.
It's getting irritating, honestly. Like if I hv to watch director's cut ultimately then I will simply watch that. Why will I watch 3 versions of it? Also it doesn't make any sense to release 2 version when both are going to be released on streaming platform.
Director cuts are literally something Snyder always has, similar to Ridley scott. Directors cuts didn't suddenly become something special with snyder and the snydercut, they have existed many years in hollywood. Like superman donner cut, or james cameron director cuts, or Directors cut of godfather 3 or apocalypse now etc etc etc People act as if this is a big deal just because it's a Snyder film
No crap. You missed what I said. I'm talking specifically about creating fake hype like the hype that was made to make the Synder Cut of Justice League happen. Which was organic from fans wanting it. Not that a directors cut is a thing. But that they might be able to make people want another "synder cut" by making a poorly cut PG13 version.
@@MarkFilipAnthony you seem to be confusing the "Extended Cut" and "Director's Cut" versions of movies as the same thing. Extended Cut films are usually still under strict supervision of studio guidelines and requests - example: Despite there being 3 versions of Terminator 2, none of them are Director's Cuts, hence why James always says that he prefers the Theatrical Cut, even though we as viewers will always see the Ultimate Extended Cut to be the far superior version of that movie, but that's only because of what we know about what content we've been provided with, whereas James could have an entirely different version that only he owns and will never release. Same thing goes for Avatar - there is no Director's Cut, only an Extended Cut. And although it's better than the theatrical version, it's not what James wanted the world to see with his own true vision. Apocalypse Now took 32 years to get a Director's Cut made which was dubbed "Apocalypse Now Redux" and took the runtime from 2 hours and 22 minutes, to 3 hours and 17 minutes.
Extra gore and horniness isn't what this movie was lacking. The whole village scene seemed pretty cringe and pointless as is, I guess now we get to see them naked and on the tables. It lacked character!
A while back I imagined a studio releasing a film in both R rated and PG rated form and movie goers could just choose which version they wanted. Now, with streaming, that idea is very possible and I think it could go a long way to satisfying fans. The idea of the two versions of Rebel Moon appealed to me for that exact reason, but he needed to release both simultaneously. That’s the only way this would work, especially for such a disappointing story.
Makes sense, but I think the PG-13 cut would still need to be a fully satisfactory product; it can't be a messy cop out flimsily strung together for the sake of the demand.
Its rating should depend on the needs of the film. Tacking on slow-mo violence, extra blood splatters, or "naughty" words won't affect what does or doesn't work. If it won't work with anything but an R-rating, then release that.
A director's cut isn't going to solve Ed Skrein's hat being two sizes too big. You know a film's failed when every time the evil baddy shows up... you burst out laughing!
And looking like an obvious space Nazi. The obsession Hollywood has with Nazi looking baddies having english accents is so ridiculous at this point. As if people who know history dont know at all what they're doing.
Snyder hasn't made a good movie since Watchmen. He just doesn't know how to make them good and every movie he puts out proves it. The man should just stop or watch your videos to become better.
I am a big fan of Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, mainly because of the care he took with fleshing out the characters. The movie is overshadowed by the original. The gimmick approach here of director's cut deadens the impact of Rebel Moon, turning the movie into a 2 hour commercial.
Nah not really, one version is for 12/13 year olds and families etc and the other version is going to be brutal, it’s not that deep man What people like you don’t realise is that making things for families and making things for mature audiences is different but they both can co-exist Just cause no other movie has really done this before doesn’t mean it can’t work Lots of people have enjoyed RM, and I’m not talking about the endless nit pickery of social media, I’m on about the real world, everyone I know in real life that’s watched it actually can’t wait for part two, my family friends and work colleagues all liked it This version is number 1, it’s had so many views and so has worked
You can definitely say RoP is worse because it ruins better stories... But this movie is plain bad. This is PT. 1. Movie fans don't need a 2 hour+ waste of time intro into a new story, they need a functional movie past hour 2, if this is PT. 1 and your directors cut exceeds 4 hours you have failed as a storyteller, as this should have been a multi-part miniseries, not a movie. These character introductions were just terrible, unless the general gets a bloody 30 min tourney and like 10 more minutes on the 2 characters we saw introduced and something big on the Rebels, i don't see much improvement.... But i don't see a 4hr part 1 as in any way a good thing, this movie needed more cutting and splitting long before we get a PT. 2 and a DC PT1/PT1.5.
I thought with Rebel Moon I don't hv to any homework. Finally!! But here we go again. 🙄 Zack's understanding of PG rating had me baffled. PG doesn't mean you will compromise your storytelling and development. We don't recommend story looking at rating. We see the story first. There are good horror movies under PG. It's both horror and appropriate for all that even without messing up the plot and it's under 2:30hr! So Zack has to bear the full critisim for terrible choice he made.
Plus since he’s releasing his works in a streaming service now, the whole “the studio betrayed him and din’t let him complete his vision” doesn’t really work anymore so “the director’s cut” means Zack is terrible at pacing and creatively bankrupt. (Same as you, Ridley Scott)
I honestly feel like films like this would have benefited from several more round of rewrites. Tighten the story, make sure the dialogue is necessary. All these flops feel like first drafts, which is why I think some still hold out hope for a decent film.
The lack of character development and the overuse of slow-mo is my biggest problems with the movie. Everything else is okay. I was entertained. But it ain't no overnight classic.
Nailed it. 💯. Ive not seen the movie. He is hedging his bets and trying to get best of both worlds: independence cred and high budget cred. He sucks. He got lucky with the "Snyder Cut" move years ago but it is a one trick pony
10:26 Someone's finally catching on how Zack thinks. It's what he's always done. He's never tried anything different because he doesn't want to. Just the pattern I noticed in his career.
Snyder is a type of directors well suited to shoot a tragic movie. He uses a lot of slow motion, gritty environment, weak lighting, and blurred background. Maybe he should direct a war movie like Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List?
This 'regular movie length not being enough to show my genius' excuse is really getting fucking old, specially with thousand of examples of past and present of classics that not only come under the 2 hrs or even 1 and 1/2 hrs marks, BUT also were plagued with production issues or lots of studio intervention. Snyder's next movie should be about a tiny violin.
Great video man and couldn’t agree more do feel like it’s not a bad movie but def flawed the slow motion was very over used and def has the rinse and repeat and the decision to have a director cut was the biggest mistake they could have made
I love this. I had never analyzed my feelings about Directors’ Cuts, and your perspective hits the nail on the head. I also think Snyder’s approach to alternative cuts aligns with your earlier commentary about his reliance on exposition / ‘telling rather than showing’. Both give me the sense as an audience member that Snyder’s will is more important than my individual interpretation (which bugs me in any medium of art). I mean I love when artists create from a clear, specific POV but this stuff feels a step too far for me. Again, stoked you’re back making videos!
Thanks again, man! Sincerely appreciate your comments so much. Yeah, the memes surrounding the situation have rang true. It really feels like the man is putting out bug fix patches for his movies, rejigging his whole work with every iteration to try to put out as CONCRETE a version as possible.
The plot fell apart in the first 15 minutes. The Imperium shows up and offers a great deal, and the farmers respond by being super shifty and evasive for no reason.
It was great that that dude was a prince because...oh wait it didn't matter. But it was really cool that that other dude had been a great general because... oh wait that also didn't matter. But it was super cool that that woman had dual light sabers because.. oh wait that also didn't matter. But then that awesome robot.. shoot that also didn't matter. Anyway, cue the slow mo jumping scenes!
Did you even watche the movie? They were all captured by the bountyhunter BECAUSE they all were special and important people. They all found each other because they individually knew each other before hand in some way or form. Only thing the film is missing is the journey between each location and the story on how they found each other, as that seemed to be cut short due to time.
They've already put a damper on the franchise with this botched 2 hour edited film. I'm a fan of Zack but he is his own worst enemy, that being said it will maybe be a better experience but i'm wondering if the extent to this unrated cut is more slo mo and exposition. In that case, forget it. He is also a terrible writer. Get someone else.
As long as he is now reading the comments rewriting and reshoting the movie like he did with justice league to make a good movie i dont mind sitting through the first version cause that was a so cringe is good movie as long as he is listening to the internet complains and taking in harsh criticism in order to alter the final product, tone down what we didnt like add more what we did like and make it a real R rated epic with all the fixes the audience suggested is gonna be a great movie! i didnt paid for the first one but if the second one is great i will buy it in 4k if they are still making them by then lol.
Zack Snyder looked at the video game industry's habit of releasing obviously unfinished garbage and advertise that it'll be fixed later with patches and went "GEINUS I'll start doing that from now on!" That typo was 100% intentional.
Every single character here is a cardboard cutout. The evil guys were too over the top in their attitudes which bordered on being cartoonish. You singled out a few, especially Ed Skrein has having given decent performances but he was the worst of the bunch. All that was missing from him was a monocle and a long thin mustache to twirl between his fingers.
Think it’s completely fair that as both an art and a consumer product, he should know, give us the best product. This V.1 and then later V.2 should be done for a good product. Like LOTR, great movie(s), and now we will release a dvd with more stuff we removed, or reference them in the extras. What is being done is a waste of peoples time, and amongst other things; bad personal branding (ZS isn’t serious and provides half measure movies), marketing (why should I watch future movies? and/or I should just wait for your completed work), and is a disservice to everyone else (Actors, producers, the movie team, are reflected poorly).
With the possible exception of the robot, which I found intriguing, there was nothing really worth seeing in the Rebel Moon universe. Pretty generic western-type story and characters, visually rather dull and predictable, nothing to make me revisit this in any form. It was also very boring.
If there had been another year or so given to actually flesh these characters out in the script, then this might have been a great movie. Instead, it's like watching the most pristine, beautiful cardboard boxes trying (not) to interact with each other. The Bloodaxe guy's 'noble' death made me lol instead...because we were given no time at all to get to know him as a character.
Jesus Christ, he has more time in the mature cuts, I spoke to some actors about it and they said there was lots cut out But either way, you don’t need to cry endlessly every time someone dies on screen or even care deeply, the amount of movies where characters die that we know little about is countless, why the hell has it just became an issue all of a sudden The nit picking is absolutely ridiculous with this movie It’s a fun time, sorry you didn’t enjoy it, you’re owed nothing though, go and focus on stuff you like instead of moaning
Zack could have "fixed" it out of the gate by giving us the full movie, instead of his Directors Cut shananigans. You can keep this series, I have zero interest now.
Hey Zack you've designed a beautiful looking car, can I drive it? Err yes, but it will drive awful. Maybe let me redesign it and then try it! Why not just make it drive good to start with? Listen I'm going to let people who like me drive it. Because they appreciate the looks. Urgh, whatever!
And yet you streamed the movie didn't you. Lol... who's Dumber? The dummy that makes the terrible movie? Or the dummy that takes the time to stream it and watch it???
@@jdelgado243 he's not even a good cinematographer, he's only been DoP twice(AotD, RM) and they both have bad camera work What Snyder must be good at is pitch meetings with producers, or maybe he has dirt on them coz i don't understand how he's gotten so many chances.
Of course you don't, that's why you streamed and watched Rebel Moon, lol. You suck so much you're probably going to stream the Extended Cut and part two, and the Extended Cut of part 2 as well... Noob
I actually agree with alot of the points you bring up here, i was baffled with how slow and boring the entire film felt, like it just screams studio interference, but the fact that he said that there wasn't any, confuses the hell outta me, because although alot of it FEELS like Zack, it also doesn't feel like natural Zack, akin to that of his other works. Good video
They had enough run time to replace that exposition with actually showing us the backstory, or even better, let us imagine the backstory. See: original Star Wars. Somehow they did it without Obie Wan explaining to Luke the entire detailed plot of the movies that weren't made yet.
Adding r-rated content isn’t going to make up for the lack of story. They spend the entire movie just introducing characters, then their first fight turns out to be the end of the movie when it feels like it should be the start of the main plot.
First, let me say, I don't think Rebel Moon is dogshit. It's a thoroughly mediocre movie, but if it weren't made by the same guy who made Watchmen and 300, I don't think it would land on anyone's Top 10 Worst of 2023 lists. The problem really is that it *is* a Snyder movie, and this *is* the same guy who made 300 and Watchmen. That's why Rebel Moon is so disappointing: "Zack Snyder's take on a Star Wars movie" just *sounds* like something that should be much better than what Rebel Moon turned out to be. I think the "director's cut" stuff is nonsense. It's an obvious ploy by Snyder *and* Netflix to double dip. Justice League had a troubled production and everyone gave Snyder a pass because of the obvious tragic circumstances that were beyond his control. You can't make that argument with Rebel Moon. Rebel Moon was the movie he *wanted* to make. If you're saying that this is the movie you wanted to make, and that the studio didn't interfere, WTF even *is* a director's cut? I think it comes down to one simple thing: Netflix saw a chance to make more money. Ten years from now, if Snyder is no longer working with Netflix, it might come out that the studio interfered more with Rebel Moon than he's letting on. But for right now, I'm assuming that Snyder lost his artistic integrity and just saw a chance to convince people to pay for a movie twice.
If it wasn't made by the same guy that did Watchman and 300 then no way this gets green lighted. We all tuned in to watch an entertaining movie by a popular director given control and sufficient resources to execute his vision. Arguing whether it's a mediocre mess of a film or one of the worst in 2023 misses the point - It's just not a good film and didn't live up to the hype.
I feel u are overestimating peoples love for watchmen and 300, both of them are just as deviseive as any of the other films snyder has made before and after
@@MarkFilipAnthony The point wasn't so much that he did those specific films as it was that he's a well known director with a large passionate fan base.
I have to question where anyone finds him humble....but honestly, my issue is his whole thing is it has to always be R Rated, sexy, violent and over the top. If he's so creative, he should be able to find a way to make a movie that is compelling without having to have all 3 of those things. Also, what is always interesting about directors like Zack Snyder is they're not willing to grow and constantly rely on the same old, same old. It's just sad. If anything he should just stick to directing and leave the writing to actual writers.
I will grant you the passion. But humble?!? And you are right. It makes no sense for a "non-director" cut to exist in a movie such as this. Ultimately, Snyder makes fantastic slow-mo motorcycle ads. And keeps doing them in full-length feature movies, despite that being an awful fit.
I love your comparison to the feeling of being read the story instead of being allowed to experience the world and characters organically. Clearly Snyder has an ability to do more than just film the words on the page but the lack of substance in the writing is becoming a pattern. It’s an interesting risk to release a lesser version first because yes the lack of positive reception, like Justice League, could give momentum to a better version OR I’d worry more likely the better version would never materialize due to fear the the 2nd attempt would be panned by audiences as a repeated failure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!👏
Your sentence doesn't make any sense. First you said he explains the story too much through dialouge, and then you said the dialouge doesn't have enough substance. Ether there is too much substance in the dialouge and his characters explains too much, or there isn't enough dialouge and they have no substance at all. You can't claim both at the same time.
Your opinions about the movie, is a sentiment that is echoed by many others as well. Rebel Moon is a clearly flawed film. While there are aspects about the film that are interesting and at the very least entertaining, the overall issues of the film cannot be overlooked. The severe lack of character development of it's supporting characters is perhaps the biggest issue with the movie that I see. And also, personally, I'm getting sick and tired of the director's cut being hammered down every single time with Zack Snyder and at this point I don't even care who's fault it is. If the director's cut is expected to be the superior version, then release that version FIRST and let it be the only version. I'm tired of them (don't care who) putting out a half-a** product first, only then announce later on that there's a better product down the road even though we already paid to watch the half-a** product. But, that's just me.
The reason I'm commenting before watching this video is that many people said the exact same thing about the Snyder cut of Justice League what possibly could it change to fix that the bottle of a film the answer EVERYTHING
My thoughts exactly... The only reason the Snyder cut thing worked was because the original version wasn't truly Snyder's vision , this is all him but with cut content.
But the Pg13 had to be 2h max. because it was best for Netflix. His movies are always longer than 2h so you can see that is unfair to judge Rebel Moon as Snyder's real Rebel Moon.
I enjoyed the first hour, I'll admit, when the robot shot the dude in the barn....I cheered, seeing the zombie in the bar connected to an alien brain was actually a interesting Easter Egg, but then it lost its flow, I might watch the other cut, but it should have only been done for a cinema release, really shove it to WB as an example that you can have two money making cuts of a film? Anywho.
i had zero expectations so i thought it was fine for what it was. Nothing revolutionary but decent eye candy. The crew grew way too big though. Should have kept the party at 3 or 4 and build them up.
He wanted a rated R movie , Netflix sad he could as long as he does a PG 13 version 1st. The movie wasn't bad at all and you can tell it's missing parts. Rebel moon is still number 1 all over the world, that means even with bad views ppl are still streaming Rebel Moon . Directors cut is what I'm waiting on.
@michaelkaggwa4915 The viewer ship is still going up and its number 1 in the streaming world, The viewing is still going up and hasn't stop. That's what I mean by number 1 in the world across Netflix platform.
Unless the the director's cut is six hours long they can't make that story better. They rushed the story way too fast. It wants to hit too many story beats and not take the time that makes them make sense
I think one thing that’s worth considering is that maybe snyder is not doing two cuts in bad faith and made a genuine attempt at making a good pg13 version but failed. Im not saying that’s a good decision but without more indication of bad faith, its hard to say whether this decision was SOLELY a cash grab. I personally believe it was lol just knowing Netflix, but if you’re looking for some intense cope, that’s my two cents.
IMO I think he just has a very skewed view on Directors Cut's and that on some level he believes that its kind of normal (for him at least) to have a linear and cut down version of hiss film to be released first and then release a version of his film that is, usually considered, more superior. Except that something he doesnt realise is that one of the major reasons why people prefer his Directors Cut is because their better then the theatrical version that are released.
It's like saying why ZSJL cannot solve the problems of JL17. I have read the novelization because it is based on director cut, It's a very different film with fleshed-out characters.
Snyder needs to stick to directing, and let the writers do their thing. He is horrible at worldbuilding, dialogue and character arcs, but he does know how to make something grandiose. A capable writer needs to reign him in, it seem like the more control he has the worse it gets, and in my opinion that only worked on one of his movies, Sucker Punch.
Snyder is fine when adapting other people's work (except for his ridiculous obsession with slo-mo) but when trying to build his own franchises his limitations soon become apparent. Army of the Dead was awful and so riven with inconsistencies that it soon fell apart and this stillborn version of Battle Beyond the Stars isn't going to help any.
Seeing how his fans are defending this pile of garbage on Twitter, it’s gonna be funny as balls when Snyder makes a Cyberpunk 2077 movie that ends up being Halo show levels bad. Cyberpunk fans: You’re packing some serious heavy clout for your size boy.
1:03 Really? You like that shit? Why? I'm not going to troll or anything. I'm genuinely curious because I can't stand his superhero work except for Watchmen. So I'm very, very curious as to what you have to say. 🙏
I appreciate the genuine question. Man of Steel I genuinely remember as being a good movie, but it has been ages since I've brushed up on it. Who knows how I'd feel about it now? BvS was weird and messy in theaters, but the ultimate edition served to make a fairly more cohesive narrative. It made the movie good, at least, but not much more than that. Given my back-then love for DC, I appreciated it for what it was. As for his Justice League... Again, it's a thing of appreciating his work for what it is. I knew I wasn't gonna be wowed with the story or his characterization of these super hero icons (I fundamentally disagree with much of how he portrays Batman but can't deny that it's badass in its own distinct way) , but I hoped for something at least acceptable, and I did get that. The real appeal of the film was its grandiosity. I liked the CGI and production design overall. It was a visual spectacle and it scratched an itch for me, that itch being "big super hero setpieces done in a darker tone with DC characters." Out of these 3 movies, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed ZSJL, and it felt good to see Snyder get a win and tell his story after the fiasco that was the original JS.
@failureoncommand Interesting. I didn't like Man of Steel. BvsS was dumb and the ultimate edition did nothing to improve it for me, and I never saw Justice League because this was the time when I saw Zack for the hack he is. Very different veiws.
@@petermj1098agreed, I think FoC said it best that Snyder essential sold out his artistic integrity by releasing a watered down version with an hour missing first.
11:19 Boring. It's fucking boring as fuck. I fell asleep twice, and my son woke me up to help him with his train set he got for Christmas. We were supposed to watch it together because we watched George's Star Wars saga together. We didn't like Rebel Moon.
@failureoncommand Sorry, I'm not a Snyder fan, and his movie is not what I'm looking for for an SW alternative. There was nothing within his movie that stood out as original. On my second viewing, I noticed he just ripped off a bunch of stuff from other movies. Just like Amry of the Dead. Zack is a poor writer, producer, and director, and anyone who thinks otherwise is foolish.
Some of the worst fight choreography I have ever seen. The sword play and gun play seem to have been assembled by nerd cosplayers who have never studied actual combat nor ever studied gunplay. Posing with swords isn't swordfighting. Screaming out in the open while shooting a gun isn't how gunfights work. I loved the fights in 300, watchmen and sucker punch. This was pathetic.
It has its merits, as far as the visual side of things go, and that's always a factor you need to take into consideration when judging cinema. If James Cameron's Avatar taught me anything, it's that.
Man of Steel and Army of the Dead are pretty watchable but one was written by people who know how to write a script and the other is just something I can doze off while I watch it.
...unless the directors cut introduces some original ideas and thoughts, the movie is still going to be boring and insultingly unimaginative. The main villain? Just a straight up nazi. That's it. He's a nazi. That animal they have to tame at one point? Just a griffon. It's just a fucking griffon. Those bounty hunters or whatever - orcs. Lord of the rings peter fucking jackson orcs. ...at least they put some shit on the poor horses heads so they could look like space horses.
if you lead with the shit version of your movie you totaly deserve a shit rating...still i doubt that the directors cut can solve the biggest problem of this movie....the generic and dumb story line, plus i was kind of hoping for an adult version of a sci-fi movie kind of had enough of feminist super heros who runs into a barn and mows a whole platoon down on her own...that might have worked for the robot (the only character i liked by the way) but for our female girl boss it was a bit much, even for s sci-fi movie....i could not go on watching that shit after that stupid scene...so from my point of view Zack totaly fudged up...
I was disappointed. I hadn't paid attention to the hype about the movie nor do I know who the director was. I knew we were in trouble with the first scenes. When the girl boss b-tch was doing the work and a man comes over playing the female role, it was jarring and pointed out where we were heading. It didn't get better from there. I don't like it when male heroes beat up squads of highly trained soldiers without being injured. It's beyond my ability to suspend disbelief when a maybe 120# female does it without a scratch on her. After that, we get Star Wars scenes cloned: mos eisley, the cantina, Han Solo's character with an accent, yadda yadda yadda. Then we get Battle Beyond the Stars scenes cloned. Maybe it was supposed to be 7 Samurai? Regardless, it's a mish mash of other movies thrown together without much thought as to why. I agree that it wasn't a good movie. Which sucks because the premise has lots of potential to be a very good movie.
What a pathetic and weak title of clickbait. So if the directors cut is 90% different scenes and a great movie , you HAVE to say it’s trash cos you already made the statement. This is an awful way to create content. Maybe I need to talk nonsense to get the same views.
I don't blame you for thinking that way; often times creators avoid speaking their mind for fear of Snyder extremists, but that wasn't personally the case with me. While I am someone who prioritizes a plot above all else, cinema is more than just a story. Snyder is competent when it comes to his visual choices; I can respect that. Story and characters are awful here, but presentation was acceptable in spots, and I appreciate that. Thus, while its plot does fail, I don't think that automatically defaults it to being a bad movie.
Character development to Zack is having a character give a 6 minute speech explaining their backstory 💀💀
With a lot of forced slomo scenes

I gave up on this about half way in. There's nothing a director's cut could do to make this watchable.
Extra gore and horniness isn't what this movie was lacking. The whole village scene seemed pretty cringe and pointless as is, I guess now we get to see them naked and on the tables. It lacked character!
With 46 minutes added to part 1, and 58 minutes added to part 2, i guess we'll find out if the added runtime is warranted.
@@heyitsthatmoviedude1627it isn’t
A directors cut just means there’s going to be more of it. The last thing this movie needs is more of ANYTHING
unless all the story is spelled in gushes of blood and genital tatoos, you are right
A while back I imagined a studio releasing a film in both R rated and PG rated form and movie goers could just choose which version they wanted.
Story was fine man, watched it twice and I had a fun time. It’s a pretty straightforward story tbh
Its rating should depend on the needs of the film. Tacking on slow-mo violence, extra blood splatters, or "naughty" words won't affect what does or doesn't work. If it won't work with anything but an R-rating, then release that.
It was a farce of good writing. So no, its not "tbh".@@Vegan_Photographs
I don't understand why there needs to be a director cut.
Snyder hasn't made a good movie since Watchmen. He just doesn't know how to make them good and every movie he puts out proves it. The man should just stop or watch your videos to become better.
That's funny.
Thank you so much, but I prefer he learn somewhere else, I don't think he'll find much here. 😅
Poppycock. Man of Steel was incredible
I like his DC movies. They ain’t perfect but it’s better than most Marvel movies.
No, we should stop watching his films and look for something better.
I am a big fan of Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, mainly because of the care he took with fleshing out the characters. The movie is overshadowed by the original. The gimmick approach here of director's cut deadens the impact of Rebel Moon, turning the movie into a 2 hour commercial.
James Gunn wrote that movie, Zack only directed
@@MadielaYeah directing is so much easier.
@@ajitpati9324 He never said it is...smh
Nah not really, one version is for 12/13 year olds and families etc and the other version is going to be brutal, it’s not that deep man
What people like you don’t realise is that making things for families and making things for mature audiences is different but they both can co-exist
Just cause no other movie has really done this before doesn’t mean it can’t work
Lots of people have enjoyed RM, and I’m not talking about the endless nit pickery of social media, I’m on about the real world, everyone I know in real life that’s watched it actually can’t wait for part two, my family friends and work colleagues all liked it
This version is number 1, it’s had so many views and so has worked
@@martymarl4602 No just implied.
you cant say that witcher show or its origin or The Rings of Power a bad show and say this is good
You can definitely say RoP is worse because it ruins better stories...
Zack's understanding of PG rating had me baffled.
Well said.
RM IS a poorly made movie. For anyone it would have been a career ending embarrassment, but ZS gets a pass for some reason.
He and his wife were among the producers. So they helped get the money for the making of this film.
Nailed it.
Great video man and couldn’t agree more do feel like it’s not a bad movie but def flawed the slow motion was very over used and def has the rinse and repeat and the decision to have a director cut was the biggest mistake they could have made
Agreed, and thanks a lot, man!
Passion does not equal talent.
Zack Snyder is pretentious Michael Bay.
Except Michael Bay can make good movies while zack snyder has routinely failed at this
They've already put a damper on the franchise with this botched 2 hour edited film. I'm a fan of Zack but he is his own worst enemy, that being said it will maybe be a better experience but i'm wondering if the extent to this unrated cut is more slo mo and exposition. In that case, forget it.
He is also a terrible writer. Get someone else.
Release the Phantom Liberty Day 1 Patch Hotfix Cut!
Zack Snyder looked at the video game industry's habit of releasing obviously unfinished garbage and advertise that it'll be fixed later with patches and went "GEINUS I'll start doing that from now on!"
That typo was 100% intentional.
I’m watching a movie only twice if I enjoyed it. So I just wait for the directors cut?
Just wait for reviews of the directors cut... I wouldn't even trust it makes this movie great.
It’s said to be an hour longer an has an entirely different opening beginning with Atticus
Jesus Christ, he has more time in the mature cuts, I spoke to some actors about it and they said there was lots cut out
But either way, you don’t need to cry endlessly every time someone dies on screen or even care deeply, the amount of movies where characters die that we know little about is countless, why the hell has it just became an issue all of a sudden
The nit picking is absolutely ridiculous with this movie
It’s a fun time, sorry you didn’t enjoy it, you’re owed nothing though, go and focus on stuff you like instead of moaning
@user-dm2nx4yu5o Said the guy moaning
Great essay, nicely thought out and fairly observed, thank you.
Thank you, appreciate it!
Jesus just listening to Snyder talk…is he three 13 year old boys in a trench coat? Bro talks like a teenager. Guys a total hack.
This is what happens when you are full of your own sh_t. Zack can direct, but he can’t write, can’t film, can’t edit.
And yet you streamed the movie didn't you.
Lol... who's Dumber?
The dummy that makes the terrible movie? Or the dummy that takes the time to stream it and watch it???
George Lucas has the same problem... they both need someone to keep them to what they're good at, and to make them know their limitations.
I dont think snyder can even direct. decent cinematographer is about the extent of his skills...oh and his ability to constantly fail upwards.
@@jdelgado243 he's not even a good cinematographer, he's only been DoP twice(AotD, RM) and they both have bad camera work
What Snyder must be good at is pitch meetings with producers, or maybe he has dirt on them coz i don't understand how he's gotten so many chances.
11:09 I don't. His ideas suck and his style stinks.
Adding r-rated content isn’t going to make up for the lack of story. They spend the entire movie just introducing characters, then their first fight turns out to be the end of the movie when it feels like it should be the start of the main plot.
If the PG-13 version is not good, the R rated version won’t be good. Snyder should have just made the best version.
Summed up my thoughts in the video perfectly.
@@mfgillia7606 You're probably right. They wouldn't have given a nobody the kind of budget Rebel Moon took.
I feel u are overestimating peoples love for watchmen and 300, both of them are just as deviseive as any of the other films snyder has made before and after
@@MarkFilipAnthony The point wasn't so much that he did those specific films as it was that he's a well known director with a large passionate fan base.
Long story short: the writing sucks. Had they gotten a good writer to craft the dialog this could have at least been salvageable.
It's fine. Can't wait for part two.
Runtime has dropped:
Rebel Moon part 1 will be 3 hours (46 minutes longer)
Rebel Moon part 2 will be 3 hours (58 minutes longer)
Thanks, Colin, and very well said. Always appreciate seein your comment around these parts!
It is not mediocre, it is really bad. You do not tell stories like that. It is easy to point out.
Mediocre is generous.
But the Pg13 had to be 2h max. because it was best for Netflix. His movies are always longer than 2h so you can see that is unfair to judge Rebel Moon as Snyder's real Rebel Moon.
This is from a streaming service. It shouldn't matter how long it is because viewers can stop and continue at their own leisure.
Anywho.
Any other director's that make a bad movie, don't get more money to hopefully make a better cut
There's gonna be a extended Director's Cut. You mean the exposition scenes are gonna be longer. Yeah.
i had zero expectations so i thought it was fine for what it was.
Directors cut is what I'm waiting on.
what do you mean by no:1 3 day viewership was 23.9 million while the top is 54 million
A movie having well developed characters shouldn’t be predicated upon it being unedited.
Rebel Moon was a fun movie! No more no less!
Nah its pretty bad.
I mean hey, it has some nice visuals if nothing else.
yep its a basically style over substance.
When you're hired but can't follow directions...
I enjoyed it ... Critics were totally wrong. Director's cut should be even better. Can't trust critics these days.
I respect Zack for at least shitting on G+G on their own stream, over a watermark they refused to remove.
Snyder is lucky this movie is on Netflix,
On theaters this movie
Will not make money at all
1:03 Really?
The studio cut was not "clean and cool", it was garbage. The director's cut will also be "R" rated garbage.
Snyder is using “directors cut” as an excuse when his movies are critically panned.
@@petermj1098agreed, I think FoC said it best that Snyder essential sold out his artistic integrity by releasing a watered down version with an hour missing first.
whatever, Dune was PG-13 and was amazing
11:19 Boring. It's fucking boring as fuck. I fell asleep twice, and my son woke me up to help him with his train set he got for Christmas. We were supposed to watch it together because we watched George's Star Wars saga together. We didn't like Rebel Moon.
Thanks for sharing, at least 😅. Hope you had a good time with your son, though.
Wait... there was something original in this pile of garbage. That Zack is obsessed with sexual assault and tentacle hentai.
this universe is a watered dawn 40k.
Just because a movie is bad. It does not mean it cannot generate a lot of money. And money is good..
Agreed, but the whole premise of my video is touching upon what this means for Snyder's artistic integrity as a director.
Star Wars & lord of the rings had a baby & birthed Rebel Moon. 😂
Snyder will openly tell you he makes movies for his fans. Dont like him, dont watch. Its not rocket science.
Not to mention that a directors cut will not save the poor told story
you lost me when you said it's not a bad movie. totally totally disagree. nobody is believable as a human being.
It has its merits, as far as the visual side of things go, and that's always a factor you need to take into consideration when judging cinema. If James Cameron's Avatar taught me anything, it's that.
lets face it, when was the last time this dude accully made watchable movie?
Man of Steel and Army of the Dead are pretty watchable but one was written by people who know how to write a script and the other is just something I can doze off while I watch it.
You tripping, rebel moon was amazing. I cannot wait for the directors cut. Looking forward to part two it’s a good movie.
The writing is the problem
...unless the directors cut introduces some original ideas and thoughts, the movie is still going to be boring and insultingly unimaginative.
Rebel moon is an extremely BAD movie. It's terrible in every way possible. Truly disgusting.
if you lead with the shit version of your movie you totaly deserve a shit rating...still i doubt that the directors cut can solve the biggest problem of this movie....the generic and dumb story line, plus i was kind of hoping for an adult version of a sci-fi movie kind of had enough of feminist super heros who runs into a barn and mows a whole platoon down on her own...that might have worked for the robot (the only character i liked by the way) but for our female girl boss it was a bit much, even for s sci-fi movie....i could not go on watching that shit after that stupid scene...so from my point of view Zack totaly fudged up...
I unironically feel sorry for you.
"It's not a bad movie.." You're just trying to not burn some kind of most likely non existant bridge aren't you? You know this is a god awful movie.
Yeah, it's just crap. We can't make good movies anymore.
The r-rated cut will be better I guarantee it. Stop hating on him. It isn't a great movie but it was a good and enjoyable movie to watch.
Rebel Moon Part 1 is actually a Bad Movie in many many ways.
What ever! It's bas!
