years later this is still the most relatable teenage show.. i cried so much when i finished it
Freaks and Geeks is the best show to not get a second season ever. Worst decision to cancel it; that show would have been bigger than The Wonder Years if properly cared for.
Idk, do you think it would have remained as good as 1st season forever? In England they only make like 12 episodes before they wrap the project and start another and that results in much better stories…. Less filler
@@lessimcdowell9897 i feel like it still would’ve been great. the problem is when shows go on several seasons and just end up ruining all of it, but one or two more seasons would’ve been fine or until they graduated
Freaks was such an excellent show. The writing was smart and spot-on. Younger actors finding themselves and doing phenomenal jobs.
Lindsay becoming a deadhead is the reason why I keep rewatching the series. It's such a good ending. Love them hippies. Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there.
i binged all the shows last year and wish it never ended. it would have been so great to have a few more seasons.

He was right about the casting choices. Pretty much the entire cast went on to have successful careers.
One of the greatest television tragedies ever, was F&G not seeing a second season. We can only use our imaginations to conjure up what came next.
Freaks and Geeks was set in a Detroit suburb in the early 80's, and that was my experience growing up. They even had details like particular concerts at Cobo Hall that we had gone to. It was so great in its detail of the ski jackets and corduroy bell bottoms, and the meanness of certain characters. That is totally how I remember middle and high school, and super painful so much of the time.
When I saw the first episode of this show, I almost had to stop watching because it was so close to my life in high school it brought back some bad memories. I stayed with it and fell in love
Freaks and Geeks was too beautiful to live. I WAS FURIOUS!!! when it was cancelled
F&G despite being set in 1980 was far more relatable to me as a teen in the 90s then all those other teen shows at the time.
I just rewatched this show again after many years. That last episode really kills me knowing that was all we got.
I absolutely loved the show, it was actually funny, lots of relatable parts and I loved all of the characters and their arcs

FREAKS AND GEEKS really hit me hard with the Jason Segal stuff about him falling apart after Lindsay dumps him.
I wasn't violent but the anger, frustration and confusion he goes through was so like my own in a similar situation with my first high school girlfriend.
Watching that show, so many years later, really took me back to that dark time.
I haven't seen this show in ages, so I decided to rewatch it again. I didn't remember most of the episodes, so it was like watching it for the first time.
This tv series is absolutely brilliant. I'm a product of the 80s, so this was very relatable and enjoyable. The writing, the acting, and the casting is top notch.
Just got done watching the entire season. Really good show. Great music and so many relatable situations.

My favorite teen stuff has always been those that find the entertainment in the mundane, everyday life. Kids just hanging out, talking about whatever. Not every episode has to be about learning some deep, important, lesson, or the basketball team winning the big game, or family drama that gets resolved by the end of the episode. Not that Freaks and Geeks didn't have some of that; it just didn't consume the entire show.

It's interesting how the ignorance of a higher-up exec can sometimes lead to great things.. it's a common pattern in other industries outside of hollywood, too. The managers who "know what they're doing" can end up stifling the process of the people actually doing the work
It pales in comparison to the number of awful things that the “higher ups” prevented or turned into something wonderful. Everyone loves the idea that the “suits” ruin everything but no one even bothers to share the stories where the suits force the “creatives” to change something and it’s great.
Frank Zappa said the same thing about the music industry in the 60s

Unpopular opinion: I think a well-done, well-conceived reboot with as much of the original cast as possible would be incredibly successful. We can follow everyone’s lives into adulthood, see how they handle their own kids, jobs, friendships, deaths, etc. It’s so clear to me that there IS an audience for that.
I know people like to shit on reboots, but I think if Apatow and Feig were at the helm again, it really could work.
Although I’m not sure if anyone would want to work with James Franco again…..
I think this is the only show that deserves a reboot, but probably not with much of the OG cast. If they can make some of the OG cast members the parents or aunts maybe? But if it has the same heart and is set in the late 80s/early 90s that would be amazing

And don't forget UNDECLARED. Another great Apatow show that died. The shooting star from that show was a very young Charlie Hunnam.
Yeah I remember Fox really pushing Undeclared but I guess it just didn't have an audience. Both those shows were great and also love the movie Knocked Up which is what brough Apatow into the spotlight or kept him going after 40 year old virgin. He did a recent show on Netflix which was good as well called "Love". The movie "Bubble" had its moments as well. Yeah Freaks and Geeks was a great show and canceled way too soon. Perfect show about high school in the early 80s. He always used that cast for future projects.

That show nailed the college/boarding school experience perfectly.
Yeah for sure it did a great job showing the reality of College life. It would had been interesting to see the show North Hollywood as it was about young struggling actors, and artists trying to make it in the movie business. I like these type of stories that are more reflections of real life and the struggles people go through.

These kinds of execs are a big part of the reason I haven't watched television in years. All they know how to make is garbage. Freaks and Geeks was one of those rare jewels that come along once in a generation, and it gets cancelled after only one season. Meanwhile a show like Two Broke Girls, which was apparently written with jumbo crayons, lasts six seasons.
No matter what else Judd does, he'll always be high on my list for producing Larry Sanders.
Just watched this finally on Prime. Really good show. Will miss these characters.

You know, I didn't like Freaks and Geeks when I first saw it. But upon re-watching, I have to say, it's one of the best shows set in high school I've ever seen.

I never got Friends, it was like oatmeal with no sugar or milk.

There hasn't been a really good network TV show that has lasted more than 2 seasons in America since All In The Family and The Jeffersons. As soon as you try to make something meaningful that's more than about someone's body parts and making an idiot of yourself for no reason, you're history. Look at American network TV over the past 30 years. It's the reason I stuck to British TV.

Freaks and geeks was basically wonder years set in the 80s. Such a funny and sad show, it’s amazing that a genuine and heartfelt show gets cancelled But a god awful show like Big Bang theory lasted 12 years.
But the great thing is a show like freaks and geeks is still remembered and held in high regard while once big bang theory went off nobody gave a shit.
As one of those kids who, at 18 and the summer out of high school, hooked up with some freaks and went on tour with the Dead, the finale caught me complete unawares and made the entire series far more relevant and unique than any other show of its ilk.
I also have a head canon where Bill Haverchuck changed his name to Bertram Gilfoyle, became a programmer, and moved to Silicon Valley.
