Fisher Solutions XL Sight Pusher Review

  • **EDIT: Since I made this video, I have swapped out one more glock slant-sided sight. Provided the sight will go 1/3 the way into the slide WITHOUT the pusher, there is ample space on the XL model to push it the rest of the way in without turning the pusher around on the bolt. **
My thoughts on this handy sight pusher - not too overpriced for a universal sight pusher. Protect your slide with leather or cardboard before using it. Solid construction and it gets the job done. I have no affiliation with Fisher Solutions.

An excellent review. I just purchased one based on numerous other positive reviews and yours, which by far is the most helpful. I'm definitely going to work with a vice, forget the shims to raise the slide. Actually, if you reverse the slide you wouldn't need to reverse the slanted pusher, I believe? Thanks again for making this.

Just ordered one of these. Appreciate the tips since it'll be the first time I'll be pushing my own sights

Thanks for the informative review. I quickly settled on this Made in USA pusher to avoid Chinese untempered threads stripping out on me. Saw the negative review you reference, & just shook my head. Looks like a perfectly good tool. Looking forward to trying one out.

I've used this tool often and is great even pushing front sights which can be very difficult to mount. GREAT TOOL. Always use cardboard on your slides to prevent scarring the finish. Use a mic to measure your centers. There are enough blocks and shims without removing the crank. Have never had a problem in a center position the slide and lock down. Always push left to right to remove///then reverse the slide in the pusher and push right to left to install, this a gunsmith edict they use including all push pins.

Just flip the screw adjust to the opposite side so you can use a socket wrench no big deal.

Great video. I'm glad you addressed the issue with the blocks. I also saw that video you mentioned, and I couldn't figure why he mentioned that. I've just received my sight pusher, and this video is really going to be beneficial when I begin tackling my XD sights. Thanks for sharing...

Yeah, Springfield Armory must press their 1911 novak rear sights into range officers with a ten gigaton hydraulic press or something... WTH? kind of silly really because the fixed rear sight has a set screw and does not need to be fitted that tight. It makes it so that most gun owners cannot adjust windage themselves. Hammer and brass punch was no mach for it, now my brass punch is flared like a mushroom. Was thinking of cutting the sight out with a rotary cutter and a hack saw... but I think I'll give one of these a try instead.

Probably - i changed the sights on an older shield with it. but if you are only changing one gun, I'd probably just take it to a store ... I have changed lots sights so it was worth it to me to get a tool - but for a one-off I wouldn't have bothered.

    These won't work on a glock 43

Does it come with a storage case/bag?

It did not when I bought it 3 years ago. Not sure if it does now although it seems unlikely.

I could not for the life of me get my pusher to work on my 1911. No matter how tight I secured the slide when the pusher made contact with the front sight the entire slide would tilt to the side and prevent the pusher from working. This was on account of the clamp not holding the narrow portion of the slide securely enough. If I had continued to tighten the pusher it would have gouged the dovetail. I ended up having to take the gun to a gunsmith that had a Sight Pro pusher that worked great. Other than that this tool has worked very well.

I bought this tool and it looks nice. However, it seems like it can be very easy to scratch either the gun slide and or the new sights being installed. I attempted to use it on my Springfield XD and it started to put a scratch mark on the gun slide so I stopped using it. I even followed the instructions on this video with using a business card but that didn't protect the slide enough to prevent the scratch mark. So now I'm out of $90 from the purchase price of this tool and my brand new XD gun has a slight scratch mark from using this tool. Next time I'll go to a professional gunsmith. Live and learn...

That's where a small square piece of cardboard to put over your slide or even duct tap to put over the blocks comes in handy. Also knowing how to work with tools and thinking outside the box comes in.

I used this product on a Springfield XDs with success. I'm a big time SA fan but their sights out of the box are absolute garbage.
