Hi Guys. I was in the same position and I do believe that cost aside I would agree with Ryan. However with the cost of the H501c being twice the cost of the H502e I was finding it really difficult to justify the extra cost. Also just to make it harder the H502s is about the same price as the H501c and has the features that one lacks (follow me and FPV). I guess it depends what features you really want/need. I have ended up not having to decide as I have been fortunate enough to have my father buy the H502e for me as an early Christmas present. His logic was to practice with the cheaper one and save for the better one for next summer.
I found the FPV Camera for the 502s on BangGood, with the black cam holder, instead of the red. I'm gonna give it a whirl when they come in from China! now to find a 502s controller that someone wrecked the Quad!
That is a strange way for the GPS to work, on my Phantom as soon as you give any right stick command GPS lets go until you return right stick to center position. This quad is a mixed bag of stuff that does not work well together, It is a great looking quad, maybe do away with the GPS and camera, then give it a sport mode , cut the price in half. Then I think you might have a pretty good quad. As always great review
Dear Ryan. I replaced board and all motors of my Hubsan X4 H107c. However, the drone just won't start. The LEDs are blinking though. Transmitter LED is green.
Lucky to get it flying. Mine after compass calibrate and 12 gps locks, hovered for about 5 seconds and went into a suicide dive. Burnt out one motor as the disarm never worked and bricked the control board.
Do you think this could carry any kind of additional camera such as an 808 keychain or something similar? I know it has brushed motors so was wondering if these would particularly hinder such capabilities
Ryan what's with the annoying none stoppable ringing comes out drone once connected to battery ? I was thinking maybe I can remove the beep speaker on the FC board ??? Maybe idk ? Your opinion needed ty .
I don't recall any sort of ringing or beeping. Maybe remove the props, just to eliminate that factor, and see if the ringing still occurs? If it does, then maybe you have some sort of defective electronics or motors.
I had two of these. This is a known issue and I think it is "normal". Both of my H502E's failed almost immediately from motor/bearing failure. Replaced motors and they failed again catastrophically and sent them both back.
can someone help pls I have ordered one but heard that the motors burn out quickly I have no idea how to change motors can you explain what to to if the motor burns out
Yes and no... the camera is not great, and has no stabilization, and since it has brushed gear-driven motors, it is a bit slow to make corrections to hold its GPS position, which just adds more shaking to the video.
your right Ryan, not a year old. bought it some months old. I did the calibration exactly as instructed. not to worry though, I gave up on this quad. :)
hey Ryan I have a question I have the h502e and I just bought ŕ h502c I assume it's the same as the 502e but by the functions except for the battery and body but other then that the 502e and 502 c should be the same ok when I tried my first flight 502c armed the motors raised the throttle it shot up like a rocket I do not know why. I was putting the throttle down hoping it would go down. it only slowed it down paranoid and scared it would be lost by either strait up or far away I emergency stopped it then fell on cement bent a motor. any ideas what I did wrong thanks
I have no idea. That is odd... maybe there is something wrong with the barometer? I assume you did the compass calibration when you started it up, and waited for GPS satellites to lock in?
Jonathan D Photography19 Hey my h502c did the same thing the first time I flew it! It launched and kept going up, about 10m up I panicked tryed to bring it down but the throttle only slightly slowed the ascent! Still going up I thought it would fly away so cut the motors, it landed on soft grass, right way up, no damage, quite robust little thing. It has never done it since and all I can think that caused it was maybe a wind gust or maybe I launched with not enough satellites or maybe I lost some? They are very light and I have learned to check the wind speed before flight, it will struggle and possibly 'fly away' in gusty conditions.
Seems like this quad has some issues. My first FPV Quad was the Hubsan X4 H107D Micro Quad. I loved flying that little quad via FPV. I had over 100 flights on it before I had to retire it. Thanks for the video. Happy Flying!
I have an extra 2000mah 7.4v 25c lipo battery here(i will modify the battery connector to make it compatible), is it okay to use it with my hubsan h502e??
I highly doubt a battery that big would even fit, and if it did, the extra weight would probably drastically affect the power and flight characteristics of the quad, not to mention stressing the motors and countering the extra capacity by having to use more power to lift the extra weight.
hey Ryan, great video! I have a question, should I get the hubsan x4 h502e or the xk250 FPV? or a different low cost quad with similar abilities? thanks
Hard for me to say which you should get, without knowing what sort of features you are looking for, and what level of flying experience you have. The H502E and X250 are two entirely different types of models.
Flyin' Ryan RC well I have owned many mini quads and have decent flying experience but this would be my first bigger quad. I just can't decide between FPV and GPS.
for the time that I have owned this quad I feel it's too late for a refund. thanks for your concern. got a new battery from Hudson and I'll try it again. I do get a 9 satellite hook up .
the box in your video shows headless mode my box isn't the same shows every option but headless guess your right though about bad habits people better be aware some hubsans don't come with headless I got a reply from hubsan they told me they sell 2different kinds of h502e one with and without headless their solution for me was to buy the h502s transmitter that has screen they said it will bind and will have headless then also will have follow me but screen won't show cam but will have the distance battery life all that thanks I'm a try without headless you do great reviews best on u tube as far as I'm concerned I will keep tuned
Hmm, I'm not sure I'd trust Hubsan on that one, actually. I don't see how the transmitter alone would determine if the model has headless or not. But yeah, I strongly suggest learning proper orientation, and not messing with headless. It's just too unreliable anyway... you can never be certain which direction is which. And thanks about my reviews! :)
Bummer, sounds like just a dud motor then. :( You could contact the seller about a replacement, but I'm not sure how much work it would be to replace the motor.
I bought two of these from ebay - brand new. The motors lasted about 3 flights with catastrophic failures crashing to the ground. Replacing the motors on one of them with genuine Hubsan ones also failed almost immediately causing permanent damage to the main board. I think Hubsan has made some serious compromises in motor/bearing quality since these were first released and all the great reviews were posted. Now, they are just paperweights. Too bad as the gps technology was really good for the price .
the charger light blinked about 5 minutes but on the controller when I connected the battery, the indicator showed no power. I thought there was something wrong with charger and the vendor send me a new one. Same thing, no charge in the battery after trying to charge it via my usb port. Now I have ordered a a/c battery charger for my specific battery from Malaysia but it might take a month or more before I will receive it. Does anyone have a solution? Can I use my Norelco charger on this battery? I would like to fly my Hudsan 502E it looks so neat in the videos. Help. Dutch Johan.
They are entirely different vehicles. The X252 is a sport flyer, and this is an aerial video platform, so they aren't comparable. I personally prefer sport flying, so I like the X252 more. But, if I wanted to do any sort of aerial video, the H502E is definitely the better choice for that.
Like all LiPos, you should store it with a 3.85V charge, preferably in some sort of fireproof container. I think it's a great quad. There are a lot of reviewers out there that give bad reviews to anything with brushed motors, which is not helpful to anyone. :/
Thank you very much i agree because alot are ssaying that the motors burned out quickly, it toilet bowls but i know hubsan would not make bad units maybe one or two but all of it... i know that if you take care of it dont crash it that it will be a good quad......because i have the h107C+ isnt that brushed? i use that alot and i have 3 batteries for it.... stilll works good... i dont use it as a racing quad or anyhing i like taking pictres and vidoes from my neihborhood and local park...Have you seen 502 C i heard that has follow me?
***** Yes, the H107C is brushed. If people have toilet bowl with the H502E, it is because they didn't properly calibrate the compass. No, the H502C does not have follow me. I believe it is the same as the H502E, just a different body design.
you are a great reviewer thats why i like to ask you questions because you give honest answers... I have 2 more questions one is when your high in the air... to bring it down is it onlly through return to home or can we also do it like h107C+ gently little by litte because i know if you put the left stick down for a long time the motors will shut down right? when the h107C+ blinks fast i know the battery is going low so i put it down gently little by little....so is RTH only way to bring it down? 2nd is does the transmitter show you how high you are also what is the highest point can it go with transmitter?
***** You can land manually, just like with any other quad. And, this one does not have the issue of falling out of the sky when holding the throttle down, because that doesn't disarm the motors on this model. I forget exactly what you do with the sticks, but I covered it in my review... I think you hold both sticks to the outside corners. No, the transmitter does not display height for this model, but it does for the H502S. I am not sure what the range is.
Liked the review Maybe you could review the MOONTOP MT 9916 2.4G 4CH RC Quadcopter with 0.3MP Camera 6 Axis Gyro 3D Flip Fly UFO. It is kind of a copy of the syma x11 but maybe you could do a comparison?
I have that same quad but mine does not work well. GPS does not work well. Hubsan is sending me some new shielding to try and if that doesn't work they will send me a new GPS for it. I've noticed a phenomenon on your video. What is that dark spot in the sky? I think it is the Sun but why does it show black? When I first saw the black spot in one of my videos I thought it was a UFO. it's very clear and you're a video at 9:53
Brushed motors will all eventually die. Pay no attention to Amazon reviews of RCs... they are almost all written by people that know nothing about RCs, or what to expect. If motor deaths are a concern to you, then spend the extra money to get the H501S with brushless motors.
Flyin' Ryan RC I already ordered this one. Thank you for your reply. This is my first RC hope enjoy and learn through this one. and I subscribed you. Thank for great reviews :)
you have grown can you give me one I don't have anything I have only RC car like hundred RC car I'm a RC guy I love RC car story love I know you love I love you won't you tell me
I can't unsee it... the white "face", the evil "visor", the red "grin"... it's the Jokercopter! :D Thanks for these reviews, my dad complains that he can only fly with no wind or else his X5C-1 flies away, one of these should be good for him... now all I need is to convince him. Among the three H50x Hubsans, which one you think is a better value for money, for aerial filming? Are you going to review the H501C too? Having done FPV/brushless (H501S), FPV/brushed (H502S) and LOS/brushed (H502E), LOS/brushless is the only missing combination.
I was not sent the H501C, but I think you can have a pretty good idea of what to expect, based on the H501S and H502E reviews combined. I think the H501S is really the best value. The brushless motors not only last longer, but the direct-drive allows them to make faster GPS corrections, which results in more stable video. And the camera is much better too. And the extra weight (and brushless motors) will help with wind fighting. And I think being able to turn off the GPS lock is helpful if he just wants to sort of casually fly it around. I assume the H501C has all-time GPS lock, like the H502E.
Awesome video! I think the first time you failed RTH was because it didn't have 6 or more satellites. When you get done with compass calibrations, you should let it sit for a few minutes until you see 6 or more GPS on your transmitter. =)
Ryan, woe is me. I can't get the motors to arm. followed all instructions religiously. can't get off the ground. motors won't arm. mine is a year old. :(
For this H502E? And it's a year old? I don't think this has been out that long. I'm confused. You did the compass calibration first, and then waited for it to get 8+ satellites?
I had two of these, really stable Quadcopter. Even in some wind it flies great! I had mine up to around 270 meters! You can see it on my TH-cam Channel! But the brushed motors are very, very weak. I burned 2 Motors in a view weeks, you can't really trust this Quad because one day it will come down! If they had only made this Quad with stronger, better motors then it would be great!
No, because planes are more expensive, harder to store, harder to test, and often require that I go to special flying locations to test and film them, and I just don't have that kind of time. :/
Yep! haha I figured I would release these three in a row, since they share features, and it would make it easier for people to see and understand the differences that way. :)
It was annoying to watch when you constantly look for traffic when you could be launching from the grass across the street. It would be safer for the quad anyway. If you do RTH on low battery and it takes too long to desend it will fall out of the sky. I got lucky, my attention was elsewhere while it was landing and I heard a pretty good plop on the grass, no damage.
Landing in the grass with this low of ground clearance is dangerous since grass can get caught in the gears. Sorry that my being safe and constantly aware of my surroundings ANNOYED you.
Yep. If you update the firmware, apparently they have made it so you don't have to calibrate it every time. But updating the firmware is pretty complicated and confusing.
The 502S has the option too switch off the GPS, that option is not available on the TX of the 502E, and why not fly sportier with this model ? Why is there then a Sport mode on DJI ?
one of my favorite channels dude ....I started flying drones after watching your vids
Thanks, that's awesome to hear! :)
Thanks for the review, I was thinking of buying either this quad or the X4 H501C.
I'd spend the extra money for the brushless motors and 1080P camera.
Hi Guys.
I was in the same position and I do believe that cost aside I would agree with Ryan. However with the cost of the H501c being twice the cost of the H502e I was finding it really difficult to justify the extra cost.

I got mine on a Flash sale at Fry's for 59$ and they shipped it to the house! if the 502s or the 501c come down to around 100$ I'd hit the button!
Cool review! The FPV transmitters unlock the rest of the features the others have including follow me mode and even manual mode!
Yeah, I figured as much. It doesn't have actual FPV video though, does it?
Nope, that's the only thing missing lol
I found the FPV Camera for the 502s on BangGood, with the black cam holder, instead of the red. I'm gonna give it a whirl when they come in from China! now to find a 502s controller that someone wrecked the Quad!

+Joe W It probably could, but I wouldn't recommend it. You'd really stress those brushed motors.
Flyin' Ryan RC okay thanks, that's about what I thought

Hey Ryan I have gotten kind of bored with cheap camera drones. I want to know what you think the best racer quad is for under $100. Thanks.
I'm not sure there are any racing quads for that cheap.
can someone help pls
I have ordered one but heard that the motors burn out quickly
I have no idea how to change motors can you explain what to to if the motor burns out
Great review Ryan!! It's pretty much like the H501C feature wise. What size micro SD card can I put in mine?
I'm sure it can support at least up to 32GB. Not much point in going any bigger than that.
Ok. Thanks much Ryan :)
Nice video again Ryan!
Thanks! :)
what is the best fpv quad that's relatively cheap or at least under 200$
Hey, Flyin Ryan, would this be good to film things? Since it is always on gps hold.

Hey Flyin' Ryan, I got this drone last month and so far, I love it. The GPS and the high rates can be weird, but it is still a very fun drone to fly.
I have an extra 2000mah 7.4v 25c lipo battery here(i will modify the battery connector to make it compatible), is it okay to use it with my hubsan h502e??

tbone339 Well, and keep in mind that the X250 is brushless too, which makes it much faster and more powerful than the H502E.
Flyin' Ryan RC and at a lower price point , thanks! I know what get now!
for the time that I have owned this quad I feel it's too late for a refund. thanks for your concern. got a new battery from Hudson and I'll try it again. I do get a 9 satellite hook up .
It does not have the built in screen but is this FPV compatible? ie if i get some fpv goggles will they work?
No, it doesn't have the FPV video transmitter in the quad.
Gab Houghton Unless you fit FPV transmitter and camera from H502s!! ;)
That one is very nice. Good video Ryan
Thanks :)
Hiiii.....I only flew mine twice ...last time it just won,t take pics or videos ...don,t know why as it did the first time .
Maybe something is wrong with the memory card? Try another card, or reformatting the one you have?
the box in your video shows headless mode my box isn't the same shows every option but headless guess your right though about bad habits people better be aware some hubsans don't come with headless I got a reply from hubsan they told me they sell 2different kinds of h502e one with and without headless their solution for me was to buy the h502s transmitter that has screen they said it will bind and will have headless then also will have follow me but screen won't show cam but will have the distance battery life all that thanks I'm a try without headless you do great reviews best on u tube as far as I'm concerned I will keep tuned

After building mine the back left motor doesn't turn when u start up the drone, it does start turning when flying but the drone drifts to the left
Try loosening the prop screw a bit.
Flyin' Ryan RC I took the props off the motor isn't turning at all
Bummer, sounds like just a dud motor then. :( You could contact the seller about a replacement, but I'm not sure how much work it would be to replace the motor.

What is that ball when you do a pan way up?
The sun. It's too bright, so the camera just blacks it out. :)

Awesome video! I think the first time you failed RTH was because it didn't have 6 or more satellites. When you get done with compass calibrations, you should let it sit for a few minutes until you see 6 or more GPS on your transmitter. =)
Yeah, I did that before even starting the video. I had plenty of satellites at the start of the flight, but maybe it lost some during the flight.
eyyy. did you got an UFO in the minute 9:55 ?
LOL! :D That is the sun, which the camera turns black because it's too bright. ;)
Great review, but it took a bit to come out! I've had this for three months, and I love it :)
Yep, it takes me a long time to do all my testing, and then find the right weather to film the flight.
great video
Thanks! :)
Is it a coincidence that Ryan is reviewing all the drones I want to get at the moment?
its obvious some of these are freebies for favourable reviews
Not a coincidence... I can read your mind, Thomas. :)~
backyardbasher, that is not even remotely true, and if you think my reviews are biased, you aren't paying attention.
Flyin' Ryan RC which of the 501s and the 502s is the best quad for the money? Just wondering.
this guy have the coolest hobby☺☺
Thanks! :D
They did... it's called the H501S or H501C. ;)
Can you do more plane reviews? :)
No, because planes are more expensive, harder to store, harder to test, and often require that I go to special flying locations to test and film them, and I just don't have that kind of time. :/
ooh, okay then, anyway, love your reviews 😊
Nice review, as usual! What does your landlord think about you being a rich and famous TH-camr?
Hahaha I'm not rich and famous. ;)~ He's just glad I pay my rent on time. :D
beautiful day by you. I'm lovin your car too. 2 thumbs up man! :)
Thanks! :)
all right thank you for the answear
Hubsan week? ;)
Yep! haha I figured I would release these three in a row, since they share features, and it would make it easier for people to see and understand the differences that way. :)
Good idea. They are very interesting quads.
Great features for the money.
hey ryan how ya doin?
Good, and you? :)
Flyin' Ryan RC not bad man. i havnt been flying drones in awhile. they sure came along way huh?!
Indeed. Pretty amazing how fast the drone market is developing. Now it seems to popular new trend is "Selfie Drones" that follow you and film you.
Is it brushless?
It is brushed, which I think I made pretty clear in the review. ;)
+Flyin' Ryan RC Sorry didn't watch the review entirely,i live in the philippines so i have crappy internet.
Ah, I see. :) No worries!
I got the h502e it doesn't have headless mode that's why I bought it feel cheated everything else works
Click the left stick to turn on headless mode. You really shouldn't use headless mode though. It is unreliable and will only teach you bad habits.
I just got mine and have to calibrate every time.
Yep. If you update the firmware, apparently they have made it so you don't have to calibrate it every time. But updating the firmware is pretty complicated and confusing.
I fly it in a Gym, and it cannot find satellites, so no GPS hold and it will fly faster,
Then why even fly this model in that case? lol
Cuz its faster! and your not fighting the GPS.
The 502S has the option too switch off the GPS, that option is not available on the TX of the 502E, and why not fly sportier with this model ? Why is there then a Sport mode on DJI ?
I got it for $59.99
I guess I should have read more before posting. I see that somebody already has asked you aboutt the black spot and it is the Sun.
Haha, no worries. :)
Black hole sun
Took me a second to get what you were talking about. :)~
Flyin' Ryan RC did you stopped doing reviews I see you have not posted a new one in awhile?
Yeah, I am taking a break for now, but do plan to get back to it at some point.
That's great I'll be sure to have my notifications on for your channel, thanks for the thorough and informative reviews!
