    Dear 101 Quadcopter, thanks to this review and all you other's, today I purchased a H502e. I must say a bought at GearBest, they have a flash sale. Congrats on your reviews.

    Mine is supposed to show up tomorrow. Chose this mostly due to your vids, and that it has GPS. I also ordered some generic landing feet and will probably try temporarily attaching them to keep it off the ground. I got mine from your Amazon link and also got an instant $50 off for applying for and paying with their credit card. Total with free shipping = $48. Bam! Thanks.

    This is a great video. I've encountered each of the problems you outlined, particularly the GPS wobble when moving quickly... which also happens when make sudden changes in direction, but still love this quad.

    Agreed, the GPS makes this a great first quadcopter. A note of caution, don't use a large memory card for the video capture, a 64 gigabyte chip did not work. Had to downsize to 16 gigabyte card. This limit is not documented by Hubsan. Cost me hours to figure out.

    Totally agree about the fast flight. I did some funnels with mine the other day in high rates and it really confused it momentarily. I wish they would have put a manual mode on this one for a bit of sport flying now and then.
    Great little quad though...one of my favorites.

    You know, when you (and others) first demo-ed this quad, I was all set to get one. Then I started seeing a lot of TH-cam videos on replacing motors (which is not particularly easy on this quad, compared to say, a X5C), and even a guy having to replace his control board. That got me to thinking that this thing is flawed. You mention today of 'toilet bowl' is surprising, because I'd not heard of that problem in relation to this quad before. The XK X380 is the KING of toilet bowl (and it has other issues as well), and sometimes requires multiple compass cals to get it to settle down. I might give a 2nd look at getting one of these. The batteries are a little proprietary in size, and I don't know how cheap or available replacement motors are, but I wouldn't get one without getting at least a couple replacement motors to have on hand. Thanks for the follow up review. This would be a good one to put in my bicycle pack to take out on rides. Of course, what I really want is a DJI Mavic for that, but that will definitely have to wait until the price drops a bit. Cheers.

      Have to agree about bad motors. Right rear died after only 3 flights and now left rear after about 12 flights.
      No sand here, almost always hand launched & landed. If it slowly starts dropping or is hard to control then seems fine after re-powering and rebinding and one prop is not turning at idle, it wont be long before it dies for good. Feels like the brushes are binding up.

    • @billsomrak
      @billsomrak 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty disappointing for a Hubsan product. You'd think they'd use some quality motors. Perhaps they used smaller motors than what is required. Not sure, but I think these are 8.5mm x 20mm. That size is used in several minis, like the BoJiang S1 and the FY326. Not sure if there is something bigger, but pretty sure they could have come up with some better quality motors. I think there's a 3rd party company which sells quality brushed motors, but then you'd have to transplant the pinion gear from the shaft of the original motor, and who knows if the shaft sizes are the same. Any way you look at it, its a bust.

    • @Dragontrumpetare
      @Dragontrumpetare 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      mm...t did worry me.... Didnt front motor broke down after a crash. Isnt that kidna strange? I mean when it crashed, it was me flying it into the ground. It was the battery that shut off in mid-air. ALl the other motors works like it should. So this is a common problem with Hubsan that motors stop working?

    Hello, Quadcopter101. I have a Hubsan H502e as your test and an advanced command of the H501SS, did you check if the little one is able to be able to fly with the advanced knob?
    It would be interesting to use the "follow me" function with the double gps. Although I have my doubts for compatibility with the firmware. Can you tell me something about it?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The H502E does not have follow me or FPV capability. However, the more costly H502S does.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm actually surprised that the follow me feature works with the H502E when using the H502S transmitter. But then again, the H502S transmitter has built-in GPS, and is sending its location to the quadcopter. One disadvantage of the H502S transmitter is that it really drains batteries quickly (powering the FPV screen and its GPS). That's why I prefer the original H502E transmitter, as it gives range close to 300 meters, and its batteries last long.

    • @phonemaniatico
      @phonemaniatico 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quadcopter 101 , My friend, the command I have is the advanced 501SS, the batteries are no problem since I use a lipo of 2200mah to 3s and lasts much more. If the standard control is compatible it is assumed that the advanced will also be included telemetry, follow me apart

    Also, have you tried adding a 808 120 cam or mobius cam to see if it can lift it? I read these quads have a lot of issues with burning out motors, is that true or an internet rumor? Thanks

  • @seanbrooks9308

    QC.... I was wondering if you recovered that H501C. All that and only a single ESC burnt out.
    Heck, I replaced a motor on my H501s, and while up 180' it dropped like a rock on my apartment roof, bounced and came to the ground. I replaced the body, flight controller, the motor, and esc. Also had to re-solider a cpl of wires with heat shrink. On my 501S transmitter, I put a 6.6v, 1100 LifePo battery on it and get 10 flights before needing recharged.

    First I wanted to thank you for your videos I have been watching many of them prior to the purchase of this my first quad. I have been flying my H502E for 3 days with zero previous quad experience and its got me pretty well hooked!.. I do want to comment that my videos seem quite blurry on my uploads and nowhere the resolution is see in yours. Not sure if its a defect or the fact that i been flying this in snowy temperatures of -7C. Maybe the white balance is thrown off with all the snow!
    I now looking to upgrade with something that is more challenging and fun to fly!

  • @mountainbiker4450
    @mountainbiker4450 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    We had two of these from ebay recently and both had motor failures after only a few flights. The second one fell from the sky without warning. I think Hubsan has compromised the quality by going with cheap components on these now like inferior motors and plastic bushings now rather than metal bearings compared to when this video came out. After the first H502E was repaired with a new motor, it failed again. Even a brushed quadcopter should last longer than a few flights. Any other gps quadcopters out there like this one, with gps but with brushless motors you would recommend in the sub $100 USD category? We don't care so much about photography, just having a fun gps quad. Thanks

    Newegg had them for $69 a few weeks back so I ordered one. First one the RTH button was broke, so exchanged it. Second one when I finally got it to bind the throttle was stuck on high. No control to shut off. Of course even turning off transmitter didn't help because of RTH function. We had tried it inside first so hubby held on to it until battery died. LOL Sent it back

    What is the difference between the 502e and the 502c? On the hubsanus website it shows the same features. I am looking for a small gps quad for my trip to scotland next year. something small enough to put in a backpack. is the 502s significantly better?

    • @Dragontrumpetare
      @Dragontrumpetare 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The differens is in design, Propretary Battery and it don't have Headless mode, Flight board might not be the same as well. But thats the only thing. The rest is the same. TX is the same, Motors is the same, Camera is the same, Lots is the same.

    • @Quadcopter101

      Yes the H502E turns back to face you on return to home.

    • @adolforosado
      @adolforosado 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe they decided to do it that way on the 501S because of the 5.8 Ghz antenna location inside the drone, it may be in the back. I don't know. It would be nice to have it face you on RTH.

    I'm a little late to the game here - but is there a way to arm & fly without a GPS lock? Now I'm flying indoors the quad will not arm due to the tin roof. Some sites say it's possible but don't mention how!
    Thanks

    • @Quadcopter101

    Is the camera of the drone good? In the vid it's not that good...

  • @dwayne5530
    @dwayne5530 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since this has GPS. If it get's out of range of the transmitter. Will it automatically start doing a return to home on its own?
    Also from watching the video. The little LCD takes you the altitude and distance.
    Is that correct? What would you guys say is the max altitude and distance you can fly the quad?
    I'm thinking about buying one. It's cheap enough to where I won't cry too bad if it breaks.
    Last does this one have to be registered with the FAA?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it will return to home upon loss of transmitter signal. Yes altitude, distance, and true north compass direction that it is pointed are listed in the LCD screen. Max distance that I've flown this is just under 300 meters before it lost the transmitter and started flying home. No this is light enough that it does not require FAA registration.

    I got my Hubsan H502E last week. I was worrying that I get crashes. First thing I did was added springy landing gear. It protected the copter from the few bad falls. I'm not sure what to do at this point. The Hubsan H502E has all the GPS counts(11). It was about 40 feet in the air then it started to wobble and then the toilet bowl effect out of control, down fast. So far it happens each time I go out to fly. 5 crashes so far. Is there an firmware update I can download to fix this problem? I really like this quad-copter. Please help. Thanks.

    Quadcopter101 Another nice Review! i have had a coupe of motors fail on this quad first time i got a replacement quad, but 2nd time i had to order new motors from china (still waiting for them) i have tried to use other motors which are same size except they are from a 3.7v quadcopter, they work for a couple of mins then fail. these motors only come in 3.7v so how they are getting them to work in a 7.4v? are they using some sort of resistor ? anyway its a shame because the only place i can get the motors are china.

      Are you flying outdoors in an open area? Trees or any structures will block GPS signals. You'll need as clear a view of the sky as you can get.
      But if you are flying outdoors, the next suspect thing is the GPS antenna shield. Assuming that you don't have any objects taped or strapped to the top of the quadcopter (these would block the GPS signal), the antenna or its antenna shield might have come loose inside the quadcopter. The following video (at 5 minutes 40 seconds into it) shows the location of the shield, and how it snaps into place to the circuit board. As a last resort, open yours up to see if the shield has come undone from your circuit board. If it has, snap it back into place as shown th-cam.com/video/axtgDbbCmcY/w-d-xo.html

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you'll need to purchase a microSD card. The drone records the in flight video directly to the card while flying. Larger 64GB cards will not work with this drone. A 16GB is more than sufficient for this drone amzn.to/2uifQyg You will also need a card reader to download the videos to your computer after you get home amzn.to/2pH5oeX

    I just bought the newest sibling to this quad the Hubsan H502C and I aint sure that sand in the brushed motors is such a big issue. Its actually in mine (at least) Impossible to clean the gears that way you talking about. I actually have to open up the whole quad to do that because the gear is allready shielded by the ledlight.

      Use a pin instead of a toothbrush. Slide the pin between each tooth. Also if you have some canned air, blast it with some compressed air to clean out any loose dirt in the pod.

      Thanks forr the tip, but still not possible. YOu might be right that Hubsan change their design to these motorpods, because to remove these plastic glas for the ledlight, you cant reach the gears from below as you say. YOu have to remove the whole canopy to reach the gears. I mean thake off the top, they whole shebang. I know, Just open up mine H502C that in sense have the same spare parts. :-)
      I did try your top, when my motors stoped working, and removed those two screws and the blue plastic and found no gears at all. And to be honest It didnt get me happy when I found out I had to open it up, the whole quad. SO when you shall change motors, or clean the gears you have to open it up.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, mine are still going strong after more than a few dozen flights. But I religiously follow the tips as discussed in the above video. Also make sure to quickly turn off your motors if you land in tall grass or encounter a crash. Leaving the motors running when they're obstructed from turning can damage your motors and components on your flight control board.

    How do I put it into headless mode please. And wich figures show height and distance? Thanks

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It no longer has headless as that feature was removed about a year ago. The LCD screen cycles through heading, height, and distance. When the black line illuminates to the right of the number, its telling altitude. When the line is below the number, it's telling distance. When there is no line showing with the number, it's telling heading. This may help www.hubsanus.com/media/support/H502E-User-Manual.pdf

    Could I ask you , can this h502e x4 desire work with The Xiaomi WiFi repeater? I just bought this drone and I know it’s considered a toy , but im trying to get extended range , can you help?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the H502E does not use WiFi. But its range is close to 300 meters (make sure to use fresh batteries in the transmitter). 300 meters is a very long way for such a small drone. I can barely see mine when I fly it out to this range.

    • @817LDS

      Quadcopter 101 , sorry my assumption was that the remote and the quadcopter both have the 2.4ghz Antenna so I figured if i bought this h502e and the xiaomi WiFi repeater I could get good reception, oh well ! Tell me can the elfie pocket drone from JJRC work with that WiFi repeater?

    Since it's to cold and snowy out I flew it inside the house, I had a heck of a time getting compass 1 to calibrate compass 2 went ok, I did pick up 8 satellites I took it up, and it would not hold position it was very very unstable , do you think that is from being inside?

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, do not fly indoors as satellite reception will be poor. Also wait to get more than 8 satellites for improved GPS position hold. I usually wait for at least 10.

    • @396chevelless
      @396chevelless 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for all the time you put into your video's they are a great help! Yea the only reason I fired it up indoors was that when I hand spun the props, on the one I could hear allot of gear chatter then on the others, when I shut the motors off on the quad one of the props stopped spinning sooner then the others and it was not the one that had all the gear chatter.Point being I just received this quad a couple day's ago and I was hoping nothing is wrong with it before I get a chance to fly it outside. Thanks again!

    Interesting reading the comments. I had a few crashes in trees and grass and did not immediately turn the motors off. I then had problems calibrate and binding the transistor. Fixed those problems but now cannot arm the copter? Does anyone have a solution? I hope it is a simple solution. Thanks.

      DId you try to rebind the TX to the Quad? You shall press the Video/Photo button simultaniosly when you turn on the TX. Dont forget to turn on the QUad first though. :-) But maybe you allready got it fixed. I did see that its 2 months ago. lol

    Hei,Norway calling..hope you don`t mind some questions. Want a "cheap" drone to bring with me when out fishing norwegian outdoor, and tenting for several days. Sice matters..Is the main difference from 502e to 501s, FPV and FOLLOW ME? Is 502 stable in wind as 501? Both has GPS HOLD..? I see that there is big difference in price, and if 502e flys as good as 501, i don`t care about Fpv. Can tou advice me? Hope you understand my english..thank you in advance

    • @saczeke
      @saczeke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 501 has brushless motors while the 502 has coreless motors. Also, the 501 has nearly twice as much flight time and as a result of the longer flight time and stronger motors has a much larger flight range. The 502 will take you 300-400 meters out while the 501 can go 800+ meters. The 502 isn't even close to being as stable in the wind as the 501. The only word of caution for either is with regard to Hubsan's quality control. Seems like you'll either get a good quad or a bad quad...50/50...and they don't have adequate staffing or a "proper" department to provide the quality customer support you'd expect from a company with the market share size that they have.

    • @Quadcopter101
      @Quadcopter101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I don't find that to be the case. How many satellites do you have locked before taking off? If 6 or less, you may be flying in altitude hold mode without GPS position hold.

      DjHappy Raver Wsit for more than the minimum satellites before taking off. I usually wait for at least 8. Also, be careful when flying in high rate. In high rate, with full forward pitch, the quadcopter can sometimes fly faster than the GPS can keep up. When this happens, TBE will become apparent and may increase as the GPS error becomes worse. To correct, let go of the stick and let it hover until the GPS fix catches up. Then proceed at a lower speed than you were flying.
