Season 1, Episode 12 Essential Lectures of Alan Watts, Conversation With Myself. Alan Watts points to humankind's attempts to straighten out a wiggly world as the root of our ecological crisis. Here in 1971, he predicts the upcoming global consequences of human manipulation of the biosphere and points to a reconsidered way of our place in nature to avert an inevitable collision between nature and technology when commanded by a dominant point of view.
Alan Wilson Watts (January 6, 1915-November 16, 1973) was an English writer, speaker, and self-styled "philosophical entertainer", known for interpreting and popularizing Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu philosophy for a Western audience.
You can't transform yourself, you can't make yourself sane, you can't make yourself loving, you can't make yourself unselfish. And yet it's absolutely necessary that we be that way if we are going to hand over the direction of nature to nature, which is what it comes to. It's absolutely necessary that we let go of ourselves, our ego. You can't do it by doing it, acting, willing, or accepting, you can't do it, why?
Alan Watts discusses the meaning of life and human existence, history, the past and the future. Humans have a very simple kind of mind, they keep things in simple crude order and understanding, and they cannot understand the wiggly natural nature of the environment and our bodies and minds. Giving an example of Euclid having a weakling intellect. Recent conference with the best minds, scientists, statesmen, religious leaders, to help our planet. They didn't know what could be done. They decided the best thing they could do is leave Earth alone and let it get back to homeostasis. But, how are we going to do that? The problem is we can't stop. "When the wrong man uses the right means, the right means work in the wrong way." We need to ultimately let go of our egos.

I saw this by accident on PBS one summer day flipping thru channels (Turning the dial by hand!). I'd never heard anyone talk like this but it made so much sense I had to stop and listen. Every word made an impression on my 15 yr old brain and I have never forgotten it. How marvelous to see and remember it once again as I was and as I am today.
More than 50 years has passed since this talk, and it is still relevant.
I love Alan Watts. He was a great teacher with wisdom to help guide humanity. We so desperately need these enlightened people to teach us the path to our true nature.❤❤❤

1993 I found a book a seconhand book The title is The Book On the taboo againts knowing who you are by Allan watts. This book change me alot then most of my friend families seems like I became a strange/stranger for them. I read the book many times. Now my mind opened like eyes. And Alan Wats is like My teacher he helped me change my life. I'm a filipino/philippines. When I read the book theres a dictionary biside me hahaha. Alan Watts you help me a lot. When I listend his video I feel like I'm in front of him.

I work. I eat. I rest. I am at peace. It is good. I seek nothing and I seek no place to be.
In my humble opinion Alan is at his most eloquent when he talks about the real meaning of Christianity. Its particularly powerful because he originally trained as a priest . His beautiful talks on the subject are available on TH-cam. I would urge the Pope , Archbishop of Canterbury and other leading Christian teachers , to listen to these talks in order to understand the Christianity you should be preaching .🙏✝️🕉️

Thanks again for your like and I am going through lung cancer for about seven months and before that I had a severe case of sepsis and was on IV treatment pump machine for almost a week and then hospital 🏥 cat scan showed them I had a large mass in my left lung and it's almost completely white and then I was accepting death and started watching Allen Watts and he has shown me that it's okay 🆗 to be able to flow with the energy of life 💘

Actually extra visuals and background music are currently accepted tools for manipulation, and are completely unnecessary. The message should stand alone in the time it was created to show that the ideals presented are in fact timeless.

It's hard not to be overstimulated and desensitized these days lol. Maybe try meditating, it helps a ton and there are a bunch of guided meditations on youtube

What?! What kind of technology existed in the 70's to do this? People wandering around in fields with cordless microphones attached to their person making clear crisp voice recordings? Sorry I worked in 8 mm and 16 mm in the 70's and, of course, there was no video -- let alone digital. And where did they hang the mic from -- the clouds? If you read the description closely you'll see it's a bunch of garbled information. Mark Watts was born in 1973 so he clearly did not "make" this video in the 70's. I mean the voice is clearly not connected to the image. C'mon people we're going to have to grow some discernment if we're to live in this fake world. Love Alan Watts. Most important public intellectual in my life.
He's at Druid Heights, which is a cabin. So when he is walking around in fields, he is actually right outside of that cabin, so he probably has a corded mic. This was a television special and the information is correct and according to the ending credits and Alan Watts' estate, run by his Son. Alan Watts died within a few years of recording this. I am not sure why you think there were no videos in the 70's, or if I am misunderstanding what you are saying? Also, the voice is connected to the recording and does line up, lol I'm not sure where you are getting that from. Even when he is talking in the distance you can see his gestures line up with what he is saying. The only thing I added was images and background music, because it is required when using Alan Watts material. I appreciate your discernment, but I'm not here to fool or mislead anyone.
There were no videos in the 1970's. I worked on music videos back then. You don't know why I think that? I think it because it's a fact. His son didn't create this he would have been about 5 years old at that time. I know when Alan Watts died, but thanks.
