Thank you so much for the quality writing and amazing execution! This is the most musical ensemble out there - no ramming …. musicianship is so evident. I mean the detail with expression / touch - all things. Thank you so much team SCV.
Currently in 6th place. Not bad for taking a year off. Most exciting show that I've seen (just saw West coast shows). Might be too difficult to get clean before August, though.
I have a question. Why does only SCV play Dynasty drums? I know Rennick has a deal with them but why doesn't any other ensemble use them? Are they more expensive? They sound fine to me. Do any WGI lines play Dynasty?
Looks like it's just them, Redline, and a few smaller ensembles. AQ used them for a while; I marched there right after Dynasty redesigned their snares. Probably switched out for money reasons, sadly. Though in fairness, their tenors weigh a ton!
It’s simple, someone else had a camera set up back there for an educational video. I’m just one person filming everything. Sorry it doesn’t live up to your standards. 🤷🏽♂️
BEFORE you SCV kids start throwing things, I have a few questions. (1) Why would DCI make Mike Leitzke the percussion judge at 2024 Finals? This guy is an Environmental Science major, not a legitimately qualified adjudicator. I struggle with why in the hell DCI would ever place this judge on the Finals judging panel WITH SO MANY FAR MORE QUALIFIED PEOPLE WHO COULD HAVE ADDED LEGITIMACY TO THE PERCUSSION AWARD. (2) IF SCV truly did whip together the finest line at 2024 Finals, you might as well ship the 2025 trophy to them right now, because how can any drum line program take a year off - and in 22 shows after a year from competition..BLOW past everyone else? Just look at their scores/placings over the 2024 season? (3) Paul Rennick worked at Phantom Regiment for years, and just how many drum trophies did Paul conjure when in Rockford? Drumroll....... As a horn player who has won high horns twice, and played professionally , I know that our horn line could have never taken a year off and then come back and win - IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.
The scores before finals are irrelevant. Every judge will score differently and will not necessarily reflect a percussion sections progress accurately. Also it’s not like SCV’s percussion section suddenly had one really good performance and just won the Sanford. As you probably already know, who wins the Sanford depends on the average of the last three nights. SCV not only managed to peak at the correct time but also was the most consistent (They won 2 out of the three nights and won narrowly against Boston). By the way, these were judged by 3 different judges, not just Mike Leitzke. Finally, SCV has had a history of being a top drum corps and Sanford winner, so it was probably able to attract a lot of experienced members. Not to mention, Paul Rennick works and gets most of his talent from UNT. While I think SCV won fair and square, I do think more judge transparency should be considered if we want this activity to be more enjoyable for the public. I know nothing about Mike Leitzke’s credentials.
You did not respond to one single question that I posed. And truthfully, I don’t give a shit if Santa Clara gets every fucking drum trophy from now until the end of time. What a moron.
@@treymundell THAT IS THE POINT my friend. Consider this...I marched against SCV when Fred taught the drum line (Phantom 1978-1981 Alum) and the meaningful differences in SCV execution compared to Bayonne, Atlanta, Regiment, BD, and even Madison was NOT the envy ---- the ENVY was the melodic and tonal writing of the parts that Fred churned out. THAT WAS THE DIFFERENCE IN SCV AND EVERYONE ELSE. The SCV drumline was really no better than the previously mentioned lines. The problem is this....Paul Rennick is being given a score, NOT the drumline itself. Remember, Fred Sanford left SCV after 1980 because the show that Gail Royer and Pete Emmons wanted to do in 1980 was a huge struggle for the 1980 SCV drumline - one that resulted in a 7th place finish for SCV (the lowest to date finish in DCI) and the drumline finished WAY below Spirit and Bridgemen who tied for 1st. Fred resigned over 1980, BUT STATED THAT THE 1980 DRUMLINE NO MATTER HOW IT WAS SCORED WAS HIS BEST LINE TO DATE????????
Hands down my favorite percussion section of 2024, wish them them all of the luck in competition
Best line with Boston just behind them.
