I used to scuba dive off the west coast of Scotland, when serving overseas in Germany, but never had the time to wonder the highlands.I think you should guide tours with 4 to 6 people in Jacobite highland gear like your videos show. That I would love to do one day. Your doing us and our ancestors a great honor with these vids thanks

Here where I live every rock, tree and stream have a name. My town is called Mariposa, because when the first Europeans came here the place was filled with butterflies. The first site of our town was called Aqua Fria. Cool water.
Because the Giant Sequoia live for thousands of years, each has its own name.
Look how many places in Scotland are named in old Gaelic or Norse , and though evolved there’s still a story to tell.
Even our personal names have a history of a deed or an important part of a life.

I've never been to Scotland. Now that I have my DNA results, I know I'm just a small percentage Scott. But every time I see these beautiful videos, hear the language and history, it tears out my heart. I don't know why I'm so drawn to it, but I love it all so much. Your videos are wonderful! My soul has always belonged to the mountains but being born and raised on the sandy shores of Australia, I often thought I was out of place. Now I know why, so thank you for rekindling this.

Absolutely love it..... mountains fascinate me and the worlds they hide like the bandits waterfall that was amazing to me.....the highlands are my number one place I want to visit to hike, I could watch a video on each mountain in the highlands for hours

I could not understand why as a child I was drawn to Europe- though born & raised in Hawaii. A great melting pot of all places. I met my bio-dad in the early 80's. His ROOTS go back to Ireland/ Scotland, France, Germany and Sweden. I understood the love of Europe.

Great video! Nice to learn a bit more about the history of the Glen. Probably my main reason for learning gaelic is to be able to interpret the landscape around me better when out in the hills.

It's amazing where the names come from for different places.Chicago is from a native name for the area meaning "place where wild onions grow". The Tippecanoe River (near where I live) was a native name for a fish that was prolific in it's waters. The Gaelic names evoke a certain emotional quality to the places. The part of Scotland you've highlighted have a barren beauty to them, stark and strong.
BTW that's one sad sad story about Deirdre.

Love the vistas and your commentary. It's great to have the Gaelic place names and pronunciations. They're nothing like the Sassanach spelling would indicate. :) [I presume the Gaelic characters would be different]. Hmmm, I guess I should ask if that word usage is OK. I live in the Southwest USA so for me there's no negative baggage. Cheers!

Just became a Patreon supporter! You think next time you do a Highland Hiking video, you could answer some questions for us Americans? Like, do you all have a National Park Service? Who manages the land? Is it private land that’s for public use? Do you have park rangers? Are there hiking trails? Or do you just start walking? What’s the deal with hunting and fishing in these areas? Do hikers ever go missing and search and rescue has to be called?
Basically, I’m wondering how such a vast area is properly managed. In America we have thousands of park rangers and Department of Natural Resources agents, and yet people still go missing and poaching still occurs.
Yes we have a National Park service, although the area in this video isn't inside a National Park. The land is private, in fact all of the UK is privately owned I think but there are rights to roam and these are most liberal in Scotland where wild camping is legal everywhere but a select few places. We have park rangers but I'm not sure if they're as numerous as they are in America. I've been hiking here for years and I don't think I've seen a park ranger. There are hiking trails or footpaths you can follow on OS maps but you can just as easily make your own routes up. Yes hikers do go missing and on rare occasions die in the wilderness in the UK. We have a volunteer Mountain Rescue Service who do brilliant work.

Have you explored the area at the bandits falls? The "Valley " looks to be a place where there may be something to find.

I just watched your TH-cam video can I please tell you something about me i did my time with the Scottish wild life trust .
And I loved walking in the hills having good times with my mates but I don't get on the hills because I have bilateral knee pain (think you for letting me remember good times with my mates &wife )
Nice vid, we live on the south shore of Loch Etive, right next to a forest called Coille Nathais. That translates to Naoise's forest. Naoise being Deirdre's lover from the story. Did you come across any stories about one eye'd giants with poisoned apples when you were researching the place lol
