  • Lg Gram 14 Indian Variant 2018-2019 and various upgrade options available.
I bought this laptop during the Amazon Pre-Diwali Sale 2018. so the offer i am talking about was in the year of 2018.
Primary reason to buy this laptop were the following:
    1. Ram Upgrade through additional slot
    2. Twin SSD slot
    3. NVME support
    4. Best Panel, far superior than Asus laptops in the same price band
    5. Rocking Battery backup of 10hrs in regular situations.
    6. Under 1Kg weight.

This is my next laptop, it has a fucking thunderbolt 3 port ... that’s blowing Microsoft surface lineup out of thin air. I own a surface pro 4 and it’s a trash device. You should try some skins from dBrand. A company in India makes skins from actual wood. Now I am going to salvage my NVME sad from my surface pro 4 🤔

Did the price slash even more after you got this at 70k?
Let me explain my situation. As of now the 15 inch model i5+256 ssd is priced at 70k. But the 17" one has been priced at 67k twice (I checked through pricehistory dot com) and I'd obviously wait for a pricedrop again and get the 17" with i7 + 512 ssd. But I dont know what are the chances of that happening. You bought this (z980) machine in July, so was the 2019 version out at that time resulting in such a price cut? And according to you should I wait for a pricedrop to get a better deal (17") or just go for the (15") ?

    • @chiradip24

i bought my Gram during Diwali sale of 2018 and that time the Lg Gram was selling at about 70k and i got a ICICI bank cash back offer of 8K cashback, so my effective price was Rs62K.
i dont think the 17inch price will fall any further since the new Gram 2020 has already been launched with Intel 10Gen cpu and should get listed in few months, so the existing model will get scrapped.

Hey, I wanted to ask a few things.
    1) I am concerned over the service I'd get after warranty expires. Asked a couple of local repair guys and they said LG Gram is unknown and it's parts won't be available in the market if due for a replacement. The reviews complained about inadequate service under warranty... So I am very skeptical about it. How does the warranty hold up?
    2) What are some other thin and light laptops you'd recommend similar to the LG Gram?
3 I'm going to invest in it to keep around for a long time. Without graphics card is it recommendable to a programmer/coder?

    • @chiradip24
      @chiradip24  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      1. Well i can say just this, how often do you ask the local mobile repair guy or for that matter any tech product repair technician for opinion before buying the stuff, you would rather watch some videos on youtube. so lets leave the poor technician out of the purchase loop.
make up your mind on the "WHY" for buying laptop and it should help you decide, if warranty and after sales is of utmost importance, go with dell and keep on extending warranty.
      2. I cant suggest any alternatives to Gram, or else i would not have bought this machine for myself. although you can try Thinkpad carbon series or zenbook series but asus is a rip off since they are selling outdated technology.
      3. frankly i am not a graphics fan since i love laptops with long battery backup.

this holds true for all other manufacturers too, like Dell, Asus, MSI or Fujitsu.

Absolutely YES. check on the LG India website. In fact these upgrade options are what make this laptop so attractive.
Frankly, I liked the Dell XPS 13 but the 13 inch screen is too small to work for long duration and the worst part is no upgrade options and interestingly who buys a 80-90K laptop with mere 8GB ram?
WIth regards to Asus, i am myself a die-hard asus fan but somehow i didn't understand why are they deceiving Indian customers by selling a premium laptop with older version/generation ram?
You will love the LG display... its awesome...(But mind you, its glossy!!)

I have tested some MATLAB programming and it's blazing fast when power mode change from power saving to best/better mode. Power brick is contemporary type but not as heavy as old gen.

Such a detailed review of the laptop. I could see that you are the only one from India doing such a detailed review of this laptop. No other youtuber is preferring this laptop. Now that you have used this laptop for a good number of months, may you kindly confirm how is your overall experience? Like thermals and fan noise while working on normal conditions?
Thanks for taking time and making the video, I am sure it shall excite many a mind to go for this laptop purely from the point of view of upgradation options available with this model. It is selling on Amazon at around 69K and is a tight competition with Acer Swift 5 selling at 70K. Any thoughts on this competition?

    • @chiradip24
      @chiradip24  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi, thanks for your kind words and detailed feedback.
      1. My reason for choosing gram vs other youtubers, i travel a lot and i needed the a powerful machine with awesome battery and light weight. since 2017, i was eyeing Asus zenbook since it was the only option which was like Macbook air and ran windows, but & there is a big "BUT". Asus and acer both have very average Screen quality and extremely poor battery performance. Gram takes both these requirements to the next level as LG is pioneer in LED/OLED panels and they were manufacturing batteries for Apple and samsung.
Its been almost 2years with my laptop and the battery still gives me good about 8-10 hours of backup and interesting LG has implemented a smart features which charges the battery till 80% and keep the floating charge on, this implementation enhances the battery life, which no other vendor is doing. And the battery has its source from Japan (printed on the battery).
Lg has used their best panel for Gram series and it is kind of like the Samsung's Super Amoled display, i hope you can understand what i am saying.
TH-camrs don't prefer laptops which do not have graphics card since they have to do a lot of video rendering and i, simply didn't want a laptop with graphics card, since its just an added expense and unnecessary power guzzler for me and i am not a gamer.
      2. Now about thermals, yes this laptop runs slightly warm because of avg Indian temperature and intel's screw-up in rushed implementation of 8th Gen quad core cpu for laptops since they are already under a lot of fire because of AMD ryzen ( you can google this!). but the machine has dynamics throttle to control heat and the fan is super quiet. I have been running 3 external monitors on this machine since day 1, that is whenever i am not traveling and it handles it without any stutter.
      3. Display. Acer is known for making very dim displays with poor PWM, as in if you are outdoors you will have difficulty in reading, you can check on youtube on your acer model's max screen brightness vs Gram.
      4. And the one of the final deal breakers (hopefully for you..), LG comes with 3years warranty including accessories. if you are like me, in 3 years time you would be looking for the next upgrade laptop.
      5. Price wise, what you are seeing the gram at 68K is a heavy discounted price of this laptop since the MRP is 1,25,000.00. This is Gram series is like the extremely premium range of LG, somewhat like XPS series of Dell. LG has priced it competitively only for entering India market.
      6. I am in process of making some short videos about this laptop on performance feedback after using it for almost 2years. since most of the reviewers do just a 7-15 days usage review which i think is not enough for getting a true picture.
      Cheers!!
