    Great video! Love watching these improvements. On the next one, it might be good to show the lap times with just the suspension upgrades in the different phases- one could say the tires by themselves could improve the lap time vs the actual suspension components. It would help show which parts make the biggest difference and help differentiate the benefit of just swapping wheels/tires over the host of suspension upgrades.

    • @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla
      @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      We understand the desire to test before and afters of individual parts, and we often do. There is a lot that goes into producing content like this so we took a phased approach we commonly see in the community. Also, a lot of these parts perform best when paired with other parts or better tires. ie. adding sway bars would be beneficial on stock tires, but will be much more impactful when grippier tires are installed which result in more body roll.

    • @rymaples
      @rymaples 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Heylookitsremy I was thinking the same thing. How do we know where the difference came, the tires or the suspension upgrades?

    • @OlavAlexanderMjelde
      @OlavAlexanderMjelde 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rymaples of course some of the time is just tire, but you would not be able to do such wide tires without camber arms and toe arms.
      But in theory you could fit camber and caster arms with lowering springs and very wide tires, if you just want more grip.
      But there is an issue that when you have more grip, you drive quicker. If you then use regen to brake (if you dont upgrade brakes), you will overheat battery and loose performance. Then you can of course do a cheaper big brake kit with just discs + pads, that will make it possible to turn off or down regen.
      Then you will of course be able to hold power longer.
      However it would be fun to see something between phase 1 and phase 2, I agree. Its not that I dont know coilovers are better for track, but where as my last 3P from 2019 I added coilovers etc. I dont want to do it this time. So I do want wider wheels + maybe lowering + other tires etc. and then maybe adding camber and toe arms to the car without coilovers. But of course the time would be somewhere between phase 1 and 2 :-)
      Should be said you can of course also run more insane tires than they did in this test, like RE71RS or a cheaper nankang tire like CR-S. You could also run CR-S tires on the OEM wheels, maybe fitting 255 or 265 to the OEM front 9" and fit 275 or 285 to the OEM 20" rear. If then adding more camber, I think performance should be maybe better than the step 1 in this video, with less cost as you would run OEM rims.
      However you would then need to buy some other rims.. so maybe cost isnt really less :P
      And then if you buy other rims, you should maybe rather buy 19" or 18" rims for the semislicks as they are cheaper and you have more options.
      However if you want to run street tires like PS4S, I think I would maybe do Sportcontact 7, its much cheaper and in many metrics better than PS4S.

    For Phase 1, which of the three available settings/mounting holes was used on the "Street/Track" version sway bars? And there was mention in the video that the new 24' M3P rear end is stiffer than previous years. Is that stock spring increased stifness over previous years? Or is that stock rear sway bar increased over previous years?

    Phase 1 gave the best bang for the buck

    • @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla
      @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Phase 1 is great, especially for the buck. It's important to consider that record laps for each phase was not the goal and given the conditions, and limited seat time when shooting this content, and all of these times can likely improve, especially Phase 2. It's also important to remember that the faster the lap time, the harder it is to cut time down. So the earliest and easiest modifications often seem like the most impactful.

    So, there was only 1 lap done in stock form? That's hardly enough track time to have a good baseline. Just a bit misleading with a 4 second gain. I'm certain Craig can sub2 to the stock car if he got more familiar with it first. Not criticizing Craigs driving just the testing methodology.

    • @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla
      @UnpluggedPerformanceTesla  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      The purpose of the experiment was same driver, same car, same timing/track conditions, multiple rounds of mods, and to capture both objective and subjective data. A video like this is hard to create all in one-go. It is not perfect science nor is it presented as such. We wanted to share our experience. Craig was only able to get 1 lap in stock form and with phase 1 mods for this experiment due to time constraints of the day, modifying the car in real time, time for cooling and needing the car at a full SOC for apples-to-apples comparison. Craig is also confident that in different circumstances he could have run a faster lap both in stock config and in modded configs, but the goal was not setting lap records it was experiential sharing.

    Problem is the Model 3 Performance Highaland overheats extremely fast. Not just the brakes but also the motor or battery. Someone tried to do one single run at the nurburginh where the brakes went out after 1/4 the lap and the motor/battery cut power by 50% before the lap even finished. Awesome that the brakes are an easy fix but this seems to be a bad track car.
    It would be awesome if you could can do some modifications for the Ioniq 5N which had insane cooling capability. It was able to finish 2 nurburging laps with insignificant brake fade and zero battery/motor throttling.
    You guys need to find some way to keep the battery/motors cooler so you can lap the Model 3 performance for multiple laps on a smaller track instead of just 1 for full power

    The driver is a few corners in on the stock set up and says, "the brakes are already steaming" ... any experienced track driver, or a mechanic that does track setups will tell you ... the first thing you do to get better lap times (and consistently) is to have better brakes. That either starts with just pads, or a full kit. -- While I love and agree with your improvements in Phase 1, it should have included pads that work with the stock discs. -- Additionally a more fair track day test would be using Cup 2s, the R's are for getting one or two great laps, not a session full of consistently great laps. -- Even better if you could have find a set of rims that could fit a square setup of Nitto NT-01s ... a street legal track tire ... that would be a true track rat experience ... regular track folks have an extra set of rims.
