      @Somar Chimon your body naturally produces Cholesterol - consuming of high amounts of trans fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol increases the amount of bad cholesterol in your body. Some health organisations recommend staying under 300mg of cholesterol per day, whilst eggs have about 1000mg of cholesterol minimum and about 1.2 - 3.1 grams of saturated fat. If you compare a medium egg to half a cup of (black) beans, the egg (at about 80 calories) has saturated fat and cholesterol, some B vitamins, minerals like selenium, but the protein content is higher in the beans (approx 120 calories), and there's no cholesterol or sat fats. The beans are slightly lower in B vitamins, but higher in minerals. You do not need to consume cholesterol for a healthy diet as a vegetarian, but you could do more research on where to get protein other than eggs.

      It's not what Dr. Eric Berg says. Organic eggs are healthy. People have been eating them for millenia everyday, including my great-grandmother who lived until she was 94 and died of a fall, disease free, and worked until her last day in the field where she grew her food.
      Conventionally grown eggs, filled with chemicals, are indeed dangerous. Eggs grown by farmers aren't.

      +matchbox555 did you watch supersize me? there is a part where it gets mentioned, too. but i will try to explain it myself (but excuse my not so good english skills): the government supports industries by advertising them and also by subsidies, which helps them to keep the prices of their items down, so people consume more than they should or naturally would. when consumers buys more, the industry gets more money. and when the industry gets more they can pay the government a lot of money back in form of taxes. this is the simpliest form to explain it. there are a lot of other things playing a big role such as the pharmacy lobby. by allowing a lot of unhealthy food to be sold, people get sick more quickly, so they have to buy medication etc. like for allergies, diabetes or obesity. to conclude: for the government it is an investment to get more money back. btw the government also subsidize banks, although they have already a lot of money. so it is about lobbyism, monopolism and control. you need the government for that and the government needs those industries. so practically they help each other to keep everything under control. and by that i mean our system. the system we live in is a consumer society and when people stop consuming a lot, our system the way it is now, would fall apart. it is a circulation they try to keep in progress.

    "Eggs are all-natural and packed with a number of nutrients. One egg has 13 essential vitamins and minerals in varying amounts, high-quality protein and antioxidants, all for 70 calories."
    It's amusing the to see them try to make eggs sound healthy without being able to say that they are healthy. If the government really did change it's tune on eggs; why does the egg board have to play such word gymnastics?

The same people that would use this as evidence would turn around and call the FDA out on recommending things like meat in the diet. You can't both use them as a source of authority and then refute them as one.

      obviously you are not bright enough to understand what this is about.. let me shed some light for you.... The USDA is "allocating funds" to promote meat & Dairy....(this is because our political system is so broken the politics and power of the Multi trillion dollar meat & dairy industries)...so the USDA plays the role of "policing" how those funds are used.....what is being pointed out here is the government knows that eggs are unhealthy and therefore does not allow them to be advertised as such. the "Reason" the government knows they are unhealthy is because of hundreds of studies that have been done by accredited organizations and individuals that are verifiable that show this to be the facts.... I have personally read hundreds of them myself...have you? somehow based on your comment I doubt it... so just STFU you have no clue ya troll :) now in 2019 let me also call your attention to the "slow Progression" as I call it that the food pyramid now does not say X servings of "meat" it said X servings of Meat, beans, legumes....because they are slowly weening the public off the meat & dairy and trickling the info out so as not to bring multi trillion dollar industries to a grinding halt......the facts are still the facts....lol

    I guess I'm glad that the industry isn't allowed to lie with taxpayer dollars but why do they have access to taxpayer dollars for marketing purposes to begin with? These are all for-profit entities no different from any other. This is small potatoes compared to the subsidies the animal agriculture industry gets for the purpose of production but it's ridiculous that in addition to lowering their costs, they also get a government-funded marketing budget.

    I take exception to the idea you can't call eggs high in protein. The average egg is 76 calories and contains around 5.5g of protein. Each gram of protein is 4 calories, meaning that each average egg is around 29% protein calories. This is only "low" in protein compared to milk, cheese and meats and it's not very far off of milk and cheese at all.
    Compared to every fruit, vegetable, nut, bean and seed that I've ever looked at, eggs are high in protein. High and low are relative terms. Compared to White Crab meat or Haddock, Chicken breast is "low" in protein, but who in their right mind would call chicken breast a low protein food..?

      Yes, that is correct. If you feed someone with a cholesterol of 300 5 eggs, cholesterol will not raise a bit. However feed someone who has a total cholesterol below 150 (basically heart attack proof) the same eggs and their cholesterol will spike quickly well into the 200's. That's how the egg people design their studies. Clever trick, but the story remains unchanged: there is never a need to eat cholesterol. It is super bad for you.

    A 20 year Finnish study found that 2000 men who ate at least 5 eggs a week had lower risk of diabetes compared to those who ate 1 or less. Lifestyle habits were factored in. They also found that high fat dairy such as cheese had 23% lower risk of the disease. But they found that red meat intake increased the risk.
    One researcher said that the contradiction to other studies may be because high egg eaters generally live less healthy lives (smoking, other bad diet choices etc.) and were not taken into account.
    I'm sure Greger would ignore the egg, and dairy part of the study.

    Sure, after eating 5 weeks every day atleast 2 eggs (not counting products including eggs) I must call on some bull. USDA is hammering on Fat and cholesterol, while they should put their head in the industrial sugar consumption. Fat is not even bad to begin with. Meanwhile they are lowering standards for fatty content we can eat (and heavily monitoring these products on a commercial level) but they are also replacing those fats with more and more sugar. Diabetes and obesity are on a rise yet dietary fat is still getting the blame (while being actively lowered in products). This world is just so dang stupid sometimes.

    • @MysticDragons
      @MysticDragons 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jack Stubbington I know that it's fat that is blocking the insulin, but it's not because you are eating dietary fat that you are storing it. Fat itself gives very little drive to insulin release (the storing hormone). It's because of chronic unstable insulin levels that you are driving fat molecules into your cells more than neccesary (or in other words, eating a fatty meal that includes a good amount of carbs is whats up). If saturated fat was (in your diet mind you) really the problem, then why is it such an effective way to battle diabetes with high fat/low carb diets such as atkins or keto? I know the reason why, and it's not fat that is to blame. I will keep telling people that they are looking at the wrong macro.
      I also want to quickly add that I'm not saying that it's carbs alone that is at fault, I strongly believe putting both macros in the same meal is bad. (high fat and carb content). I've been experimenting myself with different approaches that allow me to eat a lot of fat and a lot of carbs during the day, but keep them seperated in my meals (so either a high fat-low carb meal or a high carb-low fat meal) and i'm making quite some health improvements over the board.

Humans a millennium ago ate diets rich in starches, fruits, roots, legumes and vegetables. Some cultures utilized meats and dairy but for the most part these were rare up until the invention of agriculture. Meat and dairy are incredibly inefficient to produce, they require lots of water and grains people could otherwise be consuming themselves. Yes meat and dairy are good sources of calories in the short term, but we're more concerned with the attritional affects which over time significantly increase the chance of many forms of cancer and disease.

    I believe that as a child I had the right instinct about animal foods, didn't really like any and HATED eggs (and milk!). My mother insisted on giving me soft-boiled eggs but they grossed me out, and when that runny yolk got cold if I put any in my mouth I'd wretch so she eventually gave up. When I grew up I more or less could stand them scrambled and in an omelette but I usually had to put onions or other stuff in them because I disliked the smell. I also could eat them fried once in a while but the yolk had to be completely cooked.
    The only reason I ate them at all was because I thought they were "healthy" and since they don't digest easily when I did Atkins I ate them sometimes but can't say I ever found them "delicious". Most of the time I felt eating eggs once a month was plenty for me, so when I decided to change my diet last December I was more than happy to "give up" eggs (along with meat, then the few dairy products I ate 5 weeks later), I even forgot I had an almost entire carton in the fridge so it just had to go to the trash. I now feel so liberated I wish I'd made that decision years ago!

    Dr Greger, I've been a big fan of your work. Like many people, I'm confused about all the conflicting information in nutrition these days. I saw you on the Netflix doc What the Health. While your arguments are not without merit or evidence, I think it's more prudent to take a Bayesian approach to answer whether eggs are healthy or not. By this I mean that common sense says if we have 100 studies on egg intake vs mortality, and say, 95 of them show something akin to "eggs show no negative association with CVD", and 5 show something akin to "eggs ARE positively associated with CVD", then what should we conclude? As a Bayesian, my posterior belief updates whenever I see new evidence that either supports or refutes my prior belief.
    So let's say our prior belief is that eggs are bad for you. If we see several studies directly refuting that finding, we should update our belief in the opposite direction.
    Do a quick search on scholar.google.com for "eggs cardiovascular disease" or "eggs mortality". The top several studies all show a recurring motif: no association
    So while I generally applaud your overall theme of encouraging people to adopt a more plant-based diet, there doesn't seem to be much evidence indicating that eggs are bad.

      @@mikestaalleeenergysystems2824 ok I'll bite. Since when is evidence based scientific data considered "moonbeams and fairytales"? If one article says eggs are not harmful, I wouldn't give it much thought.

    so what sources of protein are we supposed to use then???
    according to vegans and this channel all meat is bad, all eggs are bad, all dairy products are bad, all fish is bad...
    humans weren't made to eat beans only as a source of protein. I for one believe in evolution and, looking at our closest relative still in existence, the bonobo, we can see that even they eat eggs. I find it hard to believe that millions of years of evolution, physical aswell as cultural, still hasn't eliminated this 'poison' from our diets.
    I'm not going to eat larvae and peas for the rest of my life, thank you.
    Suggestions are welcome however ;p

      That Earthling the longest living populations ate the majority of their calories from starchy vegetables, grains and legumes. (Beans and lentils) they ate very little fish and oil, maybe 2 servings a week. You don't need as much protein as you think, and you can get it from plant sources. Your body prefers plant proteins and digests them more easily

    • @03raq
      @03raq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vegan buddhist. digests them more easily so been flatulent from all the beans and lentils all day and night and having stomach issues is better than not experiencing that with animal products? You vegan smart asses think all human bodies work the same, well let me break it to you. NO. I've tried vegan, vegetarian diets and when it comes to my body and how it works it just simply doesn't work, and dont bring me that bullshit that maybe i am not balancing the diets well. My body just feels more comfortable eating some days animal based products some days vegetarian only.
      Oh and i love eating fucking eggs, almost everyday, those chicken periods are delicious, guess what i still manage to keep a low cholesterol because i have low saturated fat diets.

    This video says more about corporate spin and government regulation than it does about eggs. Nobody is hearing for the first time that eggs are high in fat and cholesterol in this video. I've seen no evidence that it is unhealthy in any practical sense of the word to include eggs in your diet. Clearly, moderation is called for, as it is with anything you put in your body.

    this guy needs to review some of the literature about cholesterol and saturated fat. when you completely eradicate all extraneous variables and purely look at the relationship between saturated fat and heart disease there is none. eggs are one of the most nutritious whole foods available, especially the egg yolk which has the fat plus all the essential nutrients. SUGAR is your problem America, not saturated fat.

    • @Booooberrie
      @Booooberrie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So youre saying if ppl ONLY eat eggs w zero variables then its healthy. Eggs are nasty and that yolk is NOT delicious. Fat blocks insulin receptors not sugar which causes insulin resistance. Fat makes people fat since fat stores as fat where carbs store as glycogen. Try some research bro.

      @@Booooberrie I imagine that you have surely heard and swallowed everything that shitty "documentaries" like "What is Health" said to put out such a junk.
      In short, on the one hand, the storage of fat in the muscles, which therefore blocks insulin receptors, is largely caused by the production of insulin and therefore by the consumption of carbohydrates (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11500316)
      On the other hand, fats (including saturated) are not a factor of hypertriglyceridemia, unlike carbonhydrates (in particular fructose) (see academic.oup.com/jn/article/131/10/2772S/4686463)
      Finally, even without talking about studies, I will have to explain to me why I, my family and all my friends who grew up with a traditional French diet (a lot of eggs, cheeses, red meats, pork ...) have an iron health and body in general much more powerful / clean than most other Europeans and North Americans, including vegan tabilans like you (assuming that someone who explains to me about categorically that an egg IS NOT GOOD is either a Taliban or a child) or your guru Mr Greger, aka the skinny fat bald
      But hey, I imagine that our good public health in France is due to WINE, because yes it is well known that ALL French people drink ALL the time of wine, and that wine must contain a special molecule that protects the body from cardiovascular problems as well likes to say the stupid high carbs / vegans who do not support contradictions of their dogma.

      You're body might signal a nutritional deficiency. Not everyone's body is capable of absorbing the synthetic vitamins in fortified foods and supplements as well as your body would with naturally occurring vitamins (like B12).
