  • A look inside the mind of a LEGO engineer. This is Kristal's latest model, a kinetic sculpture of a human head that opens to reveal the complex inner workings of the mind of an engineer.
This is her second model in a series of sculptures depicting different aspects of the human mind. The first sculpture, titled 'The Artist' can be seen here:

That's incredible from an engineering standpoint and it's very artistic too. I've looked at a lot of incredible Lego creations before, but this is unlike anything I've seen before.

I have plenty of science channels I watch, some digital logic stuff, some chemistry, math, quantum mechanics and astrophysics, but you guys are my first and so far only insight into mechanical engineering and I only want to learn more. Thank you so much for your great work.

Some very elegant feature designs. Love this. I work mostly with Technic and for decades have been looking for an excuse to use a motor as a generator but never seem to have one. This is the perfect way to showcase that ability. Please let Kristal know her work is appreciated and admired.

I love how the beauty of this model comes from the beauty of the mechanisms themselves. It's not usual for pistons and gear shafts to be used by themselves without being used to power something else. I guess what I'm saying is that all the mechanisms are kind of "useless" in a way. They are awesome as a standalone feature, and they don't necessarily need to be used to power anything else.

I can imagine a model where the face falls forward to reveal some nifty mechanism. Perhaps the mind of an actress. Perhaps there's a way so that each time you close and re-open the face, you see a new scene, representing a few roles one might play. It would be pretty neat.

You look through the back of the head to see through the eyes, but when you turn a crank, transparent pieces will move in your vision to make it seem like that's what the thinker sees.
