- I was lucky enough to score a Moog MG-1 through Facebook Marketplace, so why not make a video about it? An important bit of info, at least important to folks into modular synths:
"Although manufactured by Moog, the MG-1 design was done by Paul Schreiber (then employed by Tandy Systems Development).[1] David Luce of Moog was involved with the creation. Schreiber later founded Synthesis Technology and invented the MOTM modular system."
Paul Schreiber later dropped producing his MOTM format modules and switched to the eurorack format.

Bought mine for 149€ at a generic second hand store.
When I've asked why it was so cheap, they said "oh, it doesn't make any sound..."
They moved the volume knob up and had no sound..
...all the oscillators were down...
When I've moved the oscillators and the cut-off, it growled like a proper moog 😃

Love mine.. i got it in a garage sales for 20$ ... 20y ago ... ^^ working perfectly. I get rid of the black foam of death last year... Now is good for another 20y of fun ... :o)))))
Bought mine from a Radio Shack in Monroe, Louisiana, the year they came out. I've kept it clean and protected in a case ever since. Still works beautifully like the one in your video. Don't use it much but when I do I love the tones. Simple but awesome.
Very cool! And yeah, it's such a simple synth, but that makes it feel more immediate than something that requires menu navigation and has ten times as many knobs.
$1200 on reverb? I just bought mine on reverb for just over $500 and it came in incredible condition for its age. You can find a pretty cheap listing if you look hard enough or wait for one to be listed.

I used to play one in one of my underground art-band/concept bands called "PHARMboy" in Ventura, California. Totally great and fun to play!
Thanks for the tour and some history. One thing that is helpful regarding the dependence on CV for sequencing is that several sequencers now include CV outputs along with MIDI. Not that I’m planning on buying one of these, but it does help bridge the gap between modern and vintage synths.
True! And I suppose that folks who are in deep with modular will already have the gear for it as well.
I got mine in the 80s and made lots of music with it. It’s a great little synth no matter what the price is. It’s vintage and if you pair it with an Arturia synth you can make modern music with it. The cv is great. Cheers 🥂
Set sync from 2->1 to "in" and then modulate the pitch of Osc2 while playing. Love to hear that as an example.

Thanks! And yeah, the poly has a lovely sound. And it's cool being able to use it alongside the normal monophonic oscillators.
Subscribed, I cannot thank you enough, was gonna buy one for absolutely no reason because I have too many moog synths as is, and your point on the usability of a vst over a vintage synth is super justified.
Thanks so much! I think the MG-1 is an interesting synth, but there's just so many excellent monosynths at the same price or cheaper as well as VSTs, it's tough to justify.
My local Guitar Center had one behind the counter about a year ago, and I recognized it from seeing it in the Radio Shack catalogs when I was a kid; it has quite a distinct design. It's probably fortunate I was low on funds then or I might have gotten my wife quite annoyed with me.
After I bought my Moog source my plan was to sell my MG-1, but it has a certain timbre and quality to it that I can’t seem to part ways with. It lacks a lot that the Source has to offer but definitely keeps up and is a great synth! I don’t know if I’ll ever sell it.

I really love how it sounds, I like Motion City Soundtrack and Tame Impala lately a lot. 🎹🖤🤘

I brought one home from USA to Sweden a few years ago. This one was about $600 on eBay.
The first thing I did was to get rid of the dust-protection that either dissolved into dust or had turned into the gooey stuff. I got a pack of new potentiometers fromAustralia and picked up switches here and there. However, the switches did fit but were non-standard and I did replace them with better ones a few days ago. The new ones for 20 bucks (10+10 switches) from China, but I spotted original switches for more than 10 bucks each 🥶.
However, as the rule goes, don’t repair what isn’t broken, I have some major faultfinding to do now 🤦.
To be honest, this may be a cool synthesizer, but I could have more muscular Behringer synth for the money, so I may fix this one and sell it off.
Anyway, a great video and good advices, sad you didn’t make this video two years ago ….
I still own one my brother bought in 1983 and he gave it to me. I have had the Moog Sonic 6 as well! Now i am More in to Korg Synthesizers
What is also good about the Cherry Audio version is that all the synth sounds can be played in poly mode.

Top 3 mono synths ever made
Damn I have one but it’s def very old and not taken care of I got at a pawn shop I think the circuit board where the knobs are are nearly done for and don’t pick up the tones as I flip them up or down and idk how to fix but this video was cool least I know what I have if I am able to fixnit
What do I need to make my moog make sounds what speakers did you get or what exactly did you use to make it make sounds mine currently doesn’t make any ,I’m a beginner on synths sorry if the answer is obvious but I have no clue how this synth works
How many notes can you play at once in polyphonic mode or why wouldn't one keep it in polyphonic all the time?
Got mine for 20. Guy turned his nose up to it…. I believe I got the better end of the deal.
