Wow, I clicked on this today, just happens to be exactly 35 years later. Man, how time flies. I was the stage manager at a different club (The one with the steeple) Susanne used to call me at home, I can still remember her distinct voice.
I am so grateful that Nelson's work is available free for everyone. It is a cultural & historical artifact worthy of preservation. It brings back a lot of memories!
This was 30 years ago and is a better vlog than anything you can find on youtube nowadays. So many weird characters, odd situations, and it captured something real. Now, in 2018 most people just flex (use material means to make people watch their vlogs) but they aren't a part of anything, they don't have any friends and their lives are ultimately boring. The best thing about this was that nelson was part of a scene of all of these great people who made life fun without materiality.
spartan876 came to NYC in the late 80s and anti materialistic , to such an extent many of us were surviving on single slices of pizza, carrots and Lucky Charms!
My first trip to the Big Apple 1975 .I was overwhelmed. Times Square the billboards, lights, jjumbotron screens clubs, 42 street ,adult entertainment spots the nightlife and SO MUCH MORE, I`m from Washington DC and Amtrak up a lot.I never heard of Nelson and discovered him 2017 online and I look back and saw SO much more i did not know of and ALL because of him.New York then was a party world , NOW it`s LAME. SO much is GONE . I`m always at my computer with the fun times of the 70`s & 80`s . Nelson we MISS U !!!!!!!!!!!
This is absolute gold!!!!! I was born in the 80's but I'm obsessed with that time and wish I had got to experience it properly as an adult, this is like I get to travel back in time and see what it was like. Thank you so much!!!! RIP Nelson, thank you for these priceless time capsules when society was genuine and didn't care about subs and views.
Yeah - I started at the Limelight in 1991 - and these were the same folks that were headlining then - Lahoma and Larry Tee - Michael alig etc - good times :)
Susanne Bartsch is so beautiful. I didn't see her in person until, if I'm remembering correctly, like 2003 (It may have been a few years earlier...or a few years later) at a party she was throwing. That's over a decade ago e after this, and she was stunning. Couldn't take my eyes off of her. And so sweet!
Right before ❤️house and♥️techno, this is when they still played freestyle and “tunes” at the clubs. My heart still skips a beat when I hear Good Life play
Before??? This video was shot in 1988. House music started in 1986. You can clearly hear House music in this video. Inner City - Good Life was and still is one of the biggest House anthems of all time.
Brings back so many memories was at this club in 91’ visiting from California at the tender age of 18 with a fake ID . I got so drunk I lost my friends and a guy who worked there dropped me off in a van where I was staying off of st marks st . I was 18 and so lucky the bouncer was a good ethical guy , it could of turned out far worse for me .
Love seeing the dancing around to the classics ("Somebody Else's Guy"!!!). And that sweet moment with Nelson and Blackout. This is so interesting to watch. You can feel the changes in the air, both in the club scene, and in the anti-Ed Koch material that seemed to rattle Nelson a bit.
Did anyone catch what Nelson said was on Michael Alig’s sign? I couldn’t understand. Love when Nelson called out “come on Albert you cheap slut!” 😂❤️ they sure had so much fun running around to parties.
Jennifer Gudgeon - if you notice he mentions the time they leave to go to the party and its only something like 8.30 at that point, so the clubs still wouldn't have filled up for several hours. That's why it was looking a bit empty.

What are you talking about.?
The late 80s/90s were a great time. Enjoyed them.
People without phone at party..what a view!
As an old Limelight kid who used to party up there with Michael, these are such a treat to watch. Thank you for uploading these!
God bless Nelson.

The best youtube channel. Seemingly endless videos, but not from the present - perfect.
I was 16 when this was filmed..and even then wishing I could be in NYC. Love all of Nelson's work.
80's baby..everything is real and natural.
Fantastic. What an amazing time capsule.

If they only knew how many people would see this after all these years. Makes you wonder who would see our videos years later.
Nelson may not be with us anymore but he will live forever with his time capsule videos.

Christine Collins me too ! When I heard that song come on , it took me waaaaaay back ! Love it !🙌🏻

Amazing videos, really enjoy watching these little pieces of history, thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Lady miss keir!
Just got back from the club, and I find this gem waiting for me.
These are so awesome... Thanks for continuing to post them!
omg i saw lady miss kier dancing on the table!!!
The pre internet era... something that is so strange today...how did we get by back then?
They were pretty forward bc many of the looks and musical sounds were what became popular in the early 90s
#TruncatedSnares
This paved the way….the OGs of NYC NiteLife

Would love to know what Keoki and Alig were arguing over towards the end. Also very interesting to hear Nelson's view on aligs sign
If only he lived to know people do this type of filming for a living
I know right
shishar Snaps cardi b I’m back bitches
ahead of his time
shishar Snaps So true. He would've loved TH-cam
shishar Snaps he’s the first IRL streamer! So awesome!
Awesome classic 💃🕺🍻
This is the same club that MTV used for the show Club MTV.
Happy new year, Nelson! x
new york gay scene always light years ahead of everyone!!! :D
But for London. Sorry.
Susan's party looks so much better than Michael's was. SMH. She was probably a more genuine friend too
4:22 name of the song please?
Starts at: 8:54 till 9:20 also name of the song?
The song at 4:22 is 'Somebody Else's Guy' by Jocelyn Brown. The song at 8:54 is 'Good Life' by Inner City.
Who is responsible for uploading all these? There must be literally thousands of hours of videotape being uploaded here.
10mintwo I think Larry T and Lahoma.
mzChocoSensualHedbob chokelahoma
Eddie W lol
@@jesusisapisces🎯 Dick Richards edited and uploaded them...he passed last year. Hopefully he is now with Nelson.
@@FinancialDomination I hope someone takes over the channel but tbh it does not seem like happening...
First vlogger❗🤩
How can you see future
Would have loved to be a one of Nelsons friends !!!
NYC will never be that good again
Dennis Genova you got that right 🗿
Mayor Koch! Lahoma was right.
True. And in 40 years we'll think back to now and say the same thing ... things just get worse 😞
Larry Tee is so fucking adorable! what a vibrant personality
Is that Lady Miss Kier at 8:40 ?
Yes. ❤
Track ID ? 7:00
Took my love Away - Ellis D (Junior Vasquez) after that Robb Bass - get on the dance floor
6:51 this is so heartbreaking to watch knowing they both died in 1989 with only a month difference from one another
Did anyone catch what Nelson said was on Michael Alig’s sign? I couldn’t understand. Love when Nelson called out “come on Albert you cheap slut!” 😂❤️ they sure had so much fun running around to parties.
It was the sign about hating Mayor Kosch
Miss Kier 8:44 ❤❤❤
Where'd you pick up that accent? It's quite a mix.
Nelson was born and raised in South Carolina and beyond NYC also spent a lot of time in Atlanta.
These clubs tend to seem much emptier in these videos than I would have guessed them to be.
Jennifer Gudgeon - if you notice he mentions the time they leave to go to the party and its only something like 8.30 at that point, so the clubs still wouldn't have filled up for several hours. That's why it was looking a bit empty.
Colin Pollock ah yes I didn't realize it was so early! Thanks
That was early in the night - remember he says they were going to another party - NYC clubs always peaked late
WE'VE GOTTA GO TO MICHAEL'S PARTY BECAUSE HE'S GOT
Sharon needles 9:32
I wish the club scene was as colorful, edgy and eccentric as this.
nowadays people just look all the same lol
Fish face and selfies in the bathrooms. Cut scene. I was a bit young for this but definitely did the grunge and dance/house early-90s era proud!
What was the cause of his death.
Heart attack
More precisely, induced heartattack by cocaine overdose. He had hiv since 83.
Woah Michael allig reference
Lahoma looks like Opie from Mayberry RFD when he's not in drag.. 😆
This Susanne party looked so lame- I remember her parties being “the place” to be in the 90s, but this looks dead
early party footage 8 - 9 pm before midnight
