I have a reined cow horse that the second I climbed in the saddle, instantly knew I wanted him! Got him for $8500 and I would not take a million for him. When you have a good horse, you keep them. Mine is VERY well bred, his Dad is Smart Chic Olena...he is amazing, but all that aside, he is special to me. I love him, not for what he can do, but for the incredible horse he is. This is a great story, and insight into the horse trader world.

    Love the story.
I was interested in an endurance horse years ago… she had a good endurance record, way of going, conformation, and attitude.
I paid to lease her for 30 days to see if we really got on well together and we did.
A Farrier who knew her before, said she always struggled with staying sound, so I ended up passing on her even though she was in work and was currently sound. I thought I had the inside scoop.
Somebody from the Middle East came and paid top dollar for her and shipped her over there… ended up making some great rides on her at FEI levels (way higher than I complete).
I almost had her for the cost of peanuts, but I blew it- ha.

That's a really GREAT story, Larry. Man, you can't make this kind of stuff up! And that palo is just a beautiful horse. I'm happy he turned out to be everything you thought he was. PS That "gut feeling" you talk about is real. Our stomach anatomy is almost identical to our brain anatomy with the same shared neurons. A few years ago, when we were cavemen and cavewomen, the brain in our stomach was more highly developed as we relied on it to kill our food. Over time, the brain in our head became more developed, but the "feelings" in our gut remained. You were smart to follow your gut! :-)

A contract should have written out prior to accepting the horse, including reimbursement for what boarding, upkeep and training would have cost this guy should you not take him. The seller wasn't being very fair, your time is worth something. Now the lady has a supposed claim on him. That $2k for his papers should have been deducted from the 9k price.
