At what age do you start becoming interested at looking at their conformation. For instance if you were looking at buying a weanling for instance. Thanks for all your insight
Appreciate the response and the videos. Is it necessary to buy when 2 yrs old when looking for a ranch horse? I have a colt that I’ve been raising he is 6 months
As a breeder, the only thing Id have to disagree on is that Foals can give you a very good idea of what they will look like - they tend to go thru awkward stages as they turn into yearling, and two year old, but most level out to be very similar. High hip, thin neck, low tail set, ect. they either have it, or they dont.
I love your training videos I've learned alot over the years by following your methods. Can I send you a video of my 2 year old stud colt so that you can give me of your opinion of his conformation. It would be greatly appreciated.
Yes but only if you promise not to be offended if I point out something I don't like. Upload it to youtube and send me the link. I'll take a look as soon as I have the time.
I won't be offended at all.... I purchased this horse as a yearling with the hope of him being my next calf roping horse. He has a great mind but I just dont think he'll be big enough for what I really want to do.
I have heard some people say that a person wants their cutters to have a lower hip than withers cause it helps with sudden stops and turns. Would you agree with that? I would say on this mare they are pretty level. If not the hip a tiny bit higher.
Have you considered doing a video evaluating BLM mustangs? They seem to have a general type and it'd be interesting to see a video addressing why certain traits may have dominated over others.
Larry I agree with your opinion of this mare except I think she is lacking in the hip, borderline at best. I feel she slopes of too much from the top of the crup to her tail head.
Hi Diamond, Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated. Keep in mind, this is a performance horse. And a high performance horse needs to able to "STOP BIG". Her hindquarter conformation is an asset reining and cutting horse trainers really like.
I agree- i normally like more powerful hind end with sickle hocked over post legged like she is. But she has amazing legs aside from that, and is slightly downhill but I noticed more reining horses are

I wouldn't buy a weanling. They change too much as they grow to determine their potential.
24 months minimum

She looks good for a brude mare! Nice horse
Yes she does. Horses like her are worth a bunch. I'd love to own her.
What do you think of hoof size to animal ratio?
Hi Harry, I don't think about it. I just use common sense. If the feet look small or too big. I don't buy the horse.

That's normally true. However, I'd be satisfied with any horse that can WIN!
@@ltrocha okay. That makes sense. Just figured I would ask. She definitely is a gorgeous mare.
Whats your opinion about Chilean breed horse on reining?
I don't know anything about them so I can't say.
@@ltrocha whats a reining horse ideal height?

I haven't seen hardly any BLM mustangs... only ferrel descendants of escaped ranch horses. True Mustangs are few and very far between.

That slope is one of the reasons I like her as a horse that can probably really stop.
Thanks good info
