Assuming you will be a LEL since you haven't played in 15 years, mention something like "Imagine if T90 casted this", if he does cast it, it'll be magical... Bad idea maybe, oh well
I remember playing this game when you couldn't queue up farms and villagers wouldn't start mining or cutting wood after they finished building a camp, so you were always chasing idle villagers.
Never played AoE2 (I'm an AoM scrub) but I love watching these types of games, LEL, and high rank plays. T90 does a great job building a story around the players in any match and the way he explains what's going on to someone who has never played the game is amazing and often hilarious, and more often than not; both! Keep it up!
He does sometimes get caught up on a train of thought and miss the obvious thing brewing/happening.\ Granted when you're commentating you're not paying as close attention as someone just watching, hence why most castings are a duo.

Age of Kings could convert heroes. There was no farm reseeding. No Caravan, Thumb Ring or Heresy. Town Centers would benefit from range increase and Teuuuutons had a +5 range Town Center bonus. Also Town Centers didnt cost stone. There was a research for Hand Canooner and Bombard Cannon. The message that you are being attacked were all white.

I still remember when "no chat" was a game thing. Snark aside, I thought you made some really good points about the way games are released nowadays. It feels as if the old practice of releasing a proper, stable game, then adding small patches to it over the course of a few years to address minor issues, has been discarded in favour of releasing a game that's runnable, but not stable, and then patching up big problems in the first few weeks of post-release. It doesn't just apply to games either - think of Windows 11, where there were basic issues like printer problems that required multiple post-release patches to fix. I hope this doesn't become a widespread industry practice in the future, in spite of all the indications that it will be so.
Why pay for beta testers when people will buy your product and beta test it for you? Why pay programmers when modders will fix your game and add content for free? Like with so many other issues, people are too complacent and lack the organization to do anything about it.

I remember hosting gmaes of AOE2 in the early 2000s at LAN parties. We discovered that if you shared the installation directory, the other players could just run the game through the network without needing to install. Several games worked like this, so we used a dedicated file server PC to host all of the game files to save space. It was pretty funny when someone in lead would 'accidentally' have their network cable removed, the game could crash and close. I still remember that one of us got upset about losing, so decided to unplug the server from the power outlet. All five of our computers, one by one, quit to the desktop.
I really enjoy the full size of the trees, maybe instead of the small trees mod, one with only the border tree being smalls could be great (sorry for my rusty english)
Re pitching merch in videos: there's a difference between *plugging* merch and *informing* about merch, and if you don't want to be that guy that plugs things, it's a distinction to keep in mind. I would be happy with seeing it silently in a closer or transition screen: maybe a little bar showing the sorts of things you have, and a larger square showing off something that's either new or relevant to the video (e.g., LEL merch on a LEL video). To me, that counts as informative and helpful.
You missed the "good old days" of AoE 1 farm walling, and not being able to walk villagers (or anything) through farms. You could also paint the enemy base with wall foundations, and those also could not be walked over and had to be destroyed. And they'd leave an everlasting white rubble unless you built a building on it. Villagers would stand around after building any building. Catapult projectiles would kill each other so if you fired 10 at the same time, only one would deal damage and the rest would be destroyed by the first one because they were in the blast radius. Scouting with villagers, and sometimes they would be dumb and keep walking instead of fighting a lion And the sounds, oh my
Don't forget how you couldn't queue unit production until the Rise of Rome expansion. I think the expansion also added double-clicking on a unit to select all units of that type on the screen, and selecting idle villagers. The funny thing is that DE reintroduced farms burning, which I believe only existed in AoE 1 up to that point.

I played AOE2 back in the 90s aka 99... after all, back then, I was still playing games, now I'm just stuck watching others play instead because I don't have the time to do so myself. After all, one can pause whenever. And come back 5 months later and continue watching.
Gray was my favorite one, he fought really well against 2 player at the same time with using almost only archers, Hypmax's king move was really good too.
Man, I was trying to remember the TH-camr who I watched back in the day… zeroEmpire was it! Just discovered you a couple days ago and you’ve been addicting. Love the low elo videos.
Iremember that anything I built I had ot always keep an eye on my villagers but tahts what the idle button was for, so you lose a few seconds, but it also changes your build style to typically single resource gathering, and pre movemetns, so you plan it out and have milkd distant mining, if you need attention elsewhere, I also remember the ai was way more talkative nad would pursue you to be an alley, and you could trade, well.. but I could be wrong.
its so weird to me being reminded of the peaks and valleys AoE has gone through and realizing how ive only marginally gotten better over all these years. i guess thats what i get for playing mostly only scenarios and single player all this time.
I’ve been playing an old RTS game Star Wars Galactic battlegrounds that is based off of age 2 that has all the things you were mentioning at 25 mins in lol. Every time I have to deal with farms that don’t reseed, that games version of carto, not knowing how many villagers I have on each resource, not being able to que from multiple buildings, not being allowed to que a tech and a unit at the same time, and buggy AI. Lol it’s insane how Jenky it and pre-DE age was
this is an excellent illustration of the Mutually Assured Destruction nuclear weapon doctrine! your greatest weapon will destroy your enemy and yourself
I'm sure it's been said many times but most of the people I watch on TH-cam say something like "hey, I stream on "platform", stop by if you can" and that's not annoying in the least tbh. An easy example is Welyn, which was a great vid when you two worked together! :)
@T90 , i really appreciate you not spamming us with Merch and other stuff like other content creators. but please plug it a bit at the end of videos to keep yourself going. the short and sweet part is very welcome. :)
Someone should make an exploding trade mod for diplomacy forest nothing. If possible, the explosion should be proportional to the amount of gold in the trade cart and the trade should give extra gold to make it extra appealing. (a cart win no gold should not explode)

Regarding the unfinished game convo at the beginning, imo average gamer has the lowest standards out of every average customer profiles ever. It's definitely on the customers to raise their own standards in order to push companies to once again create complete quality games. Yet we have guys who are fanboying companies, defending them like they are their fathers' companies, preordering their games as early as possible. The companies make a good deal of their sales *before* the fucking game gets even released, why would they care about the products' quality if that's case
When the conquerors edition came out, the villagers automatically building the next building or gathering the resources from the building which was made.
For once we can say t90 made this game what this is , so much love and he made me love the game even more like very much . Cannot appreciate anyone more.
Pretty sure on the og disks you had to manually manage villagers but I played it back in the early 2000s as a kid. It's really weird how much it's changed
Has exploding villagers forest nothing been done yet? If you're doing really well early you can be super aggressive by deleting villagers to destroy trees.
That map looks really fun for castle age onagers, hack to corner as porteguise and then build feitoria's lol. 10 of them.. and have ten onagers... clearing a wide area... once you get a massive area, buidl walls castles, maybe take out half your fetorias and build simpyl a villagering building/ walling force. Hmm..
I think this comment might not get read but about age of empires 4: I think it released unfinished and is a bit lacking in some regards. But I also love that they removed the tight villager timings in the early game, and reduced the need for the more immersion-breaking micro (dodging arrows, mangonel shots, quick walling). Imagine someone quickly building houses or armies dodging arrow fire irl. That said I love seeing those big mangonel shots in aoe2 tournaments :D

I played AOE2 back in the 90s aka 99... after all, back then, I was still playing games, now I'm just stuck watching others play instead because I don't have the time to do so myself. After all, one can pause whenever. And come back 5 months later and continue watching.
27:50 Now I feel old. That was Age of Kings era. Before the Conqueror's expansion released.
forest nothing is better without small trees, it feels even more forest.
Finally, proper sized trees.
AOE4 is not replacing AOE2 anytime soon. Old faithful is in Wyoming, I've been there. Exploding Kings is Great! We need more exploding kings
Haven't seen the video yet but I already know this will be epic. Next game forest nothing!
the nerdy generation you legit named the 3 games ill always resort to if i need play something, aoe2, roller coaster tycoon and sim city
The ending is epic
Iremember that anything I built I had ot always keep an eye on my villagers but tahts what the idle button was for, so you lose a few seconds, but it also changes your build style to typically single resource gathering, and pre movemetns, so you plan it out and have milkd distant mining, if you need attention elsewhere, I also remember the ai was way more talkative nad would pursue you to be an alley, and you could trade, well.. but I could be wrong.
50:55 Sounds like that trip took a toll on you.
Yes. Way back in the original version there was another no automation. Mining camps, Mills, lumber camps...
its so weird to me being reminded of the peaks and valleys AoE has gone through and realizing how ive only marginally gotten better over all these years. i guess thats what i get for playing mostly only scenarios and single player all this time.
True pros train exclusively on single player campaigns and AI skirmishes. By training against a perfect machine, human players will be like dust.
Is there a way to organize trade in "circular" route? So that carts go one way on a one side of the road and back on the other side of the road?
I don't think so
Joke's on you, I was playing aoe2 vs ai for 20 years. Didn't even know there was a scene
Lol it’s insane how Jenky it and pre-DE age was
This. This is why I subscribe. The goofy Commy Game mods are the best. Especially now with Spec Chat.
@T90 please keep making community game content. They are definitely my favorite :)
this is an excellent illustration of the Mutually Assured Destruction nuclear weapon doctrine! your greatest weapon will destroy your enemy and yourself
I'm sure it's been said many times but most of the people I watch on TH-cam say something like "hey, I stream on "platform", stop by if you can" and that's not annoying in the least tbh. An easy example is Welyn, which was a great vid when you two worked together! :)
This is the content I crave. I will actually stake awake!
yeah it's been a hot minute
27:50 yes you had to command vills to mine or chop wood after building a camp.
I have't touched AOE since AoC days ... but have fond memories if AOE1 + Rise of Rome and playing on MS Zone! Getting back into AOE2 and AOE4 now ... all thanks to you T90
When the conquerors edition came out, the villagers automatically building the next building or gathering the resources from the building which was made.
i wish i could take a nap with tons of villagers peacefully chopping wood around me, but for now this video will do fine : )
31:28 hey man, careful. I've been watching for years on youtube because before covid I never got off work before 6:00pm
I read the title and was like... FUCK YEAH!! I'm staying up late to watch this bad boy.
That would justify going Huns (no onagers!), who expand faster without houses to build... Here you'd expand fast then get stuck.
By virtue of not being the first RTS I played as a kid, I think AoE4 doesn't hold much hope of dethroning AoE2 in my heart.
Love Forest Nothing :D
i absolutely live for the uploads like this!!
If you are in the Seattle area Seattle Parks and Rec has a pretty thriving Volley Ball community with free drop in.
I hoped that purple and red wouldve won together.
I like those lasting partnerships the most!
Loved the ending there!
I am happy, no "TH-cam smells" today. Thx glitch :)
Hmm..
Forest nothing is by far the best gamemode you cover.
Surprised the game survived...
Thought it died with game spy arcade and I am glad it is still alive and well
for the merch you can just a preview of a product and text that say "link in bio!" in the outro
