    As I've come to expect, another fantastic piece!
    Pointing out the hurdles you encounter are great reminders for us DIY-ers, playing at home, to not overlook the details on our jobs.
    Thanks for sharing your project builds, warts and all.

      I have come to realize mistakes are part of the process...for everyone even if they don’t admit it haha. So I like to admit mine ahead of time and confess that I definitely didn’t plan this out before I started building 🙈
      I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and the project. Thank you so much for watching!

    I can't wait to see the final reveal of the entire set. I absolutely love your design aesthetic, and I will admit that I have learned much from your videos. If I would suggest one thing, you might consider just ignoring the pocket hole trolls. Don't apologize for your approach to folks who will most likely never approve of anything less than their perception of perfection. If your client (in this case your dad) and you are happy with the work product, then that's good enough. If someone wants to build half blind dove tail drawer boxes, have at it... Go forth and make, and record yourself doing it, produce a video, and get out there and build a following.
    There is much to be said for you Shara suiting up, even if your suit includes rain boots, showing up, and making a handmade work product. Keep on making, producing, and sharing.
    I have become a fan, I enjoy your practicality, keen intellect, design sense, and clear / articulate voice over. Keep up the good work!

    Love these designs and how you did it! I have a question though (new to wood working), since you used Birch ply but 2x4 legs what do you do if you wanted to put a stain on it? I figure it would look quite different with the different types of wood.
    I bought some red oak plywood to make a tall file cabinet but I can't get red oak 2x4 here or anything I can see to make the legs out of. Anyways I love these pieces!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Birch and pine/fir stain pretty similarly. Since neither have a super distinctive grain pattern, and they’re close to the same natural color, when I’m staining, I just stain as normal.
      Now, oak is a different animal and it has a distinct grain pattern and tends to be quite darker than basic pine/spruce/fir. So if mixing and matching, I’d recommend sticking with birch or maple plywood if using with 2x4s or other construction lumber as they’ll stain reasonably close.

    “To pocket hole or not to pocket hole, that is the controversy.” A pocket hole screw is nothing more than a mechanic connection, where the screw is in at an angle. Would people be okay if the screws were perpendicular and screwed through the wood into the plywood, and then plugged the hole with a dowel and flush cut it? Then you hear people say that its the glue that provides the permanent connection and the pockets screws are acting as clamps. This controversy will go on forever I think.
    I enjoyed your build, and your ability too adapt. One of the biggest claims you can make is “I fix things!”, and you did here.

    • @WoodshopDiaries

    Another good Design. The Frontdoors look great , like the surfaces of your Furniture always do! Are their really birch plywood ? In German hardware stores you'll find mostly plywood of pine, beech or poplar. Till now I used birch plywood just for Modelling. Maybe for the next furniture build I look for a special wood trader. Till then: Curious for your next build!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure wits different everywhere but birch plywood is really common where I live. I use it almost every build! We don’t have poplar plywood here though. That’s interesting you do!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha I’m glad you enjoyed the mistakes. This project had a few of them...definitely didn’t preplan anything 🤦🏼‍♀️😂😂 I did have to drill crooked because of the drill. It really didn’t have any issues though...there’s enough wiggle room, it worked out fine. But I’m sure there are other/better ways to do it. 😅

    • @meperson
      @meperson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FYI you can get 90 degree adapter or flexible drill bit extensions to solve narrow space issues.

    • @joeywatch1145
      @joeywatch1145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WoodshopDiaries what Me P said. The adapter is $10-15, but do your driving with it for a while to get the feel for it if it's new to you. For extra stability, use a drill block. Run your unchucked bit through the block, align to the center punch hole, then push the block up and flush and clamp it down. The drill block is around $8, and a center punch costs... well, nothing, in a pinch. A screw or nail will do. Anyway, that'll get your hole right on center and level to the work.

    Can I.. Can I pay you to build me a custom storage cabinet? Everything I find that matches what I’m looking for is thousands of dollars.
    I wouldn’t be able to pull this off. I don’t have an ounce of craftsmanship in me 😭. People would pay you lots of money to build custom storage units on Etsy. I would pay up to $700 but after that is over my budget.

    Hello , my name is Kelly I’m a lot like you when it comes to making my wardrobe, I however am using 1/8 paneling for the sides and back , I noticed that you’re side walls a a bit thick , is that you’re style or are you just using up material you found to be useful ? I went with the 1/8 wood paneling because I want my wardrobe to be light in weight , but as it is my first time doing it this way I’m not to sure on the strength , but the side walls are not really going to be supporting much weight but if there is some weight areas I could always use 3/4” line brace boards to support a small shelf and cloth hanger rail , any way how are you making out ? I mean are you happy with you’re results of you’re projects or do you get like me , thinking that I could of done my job a lot better , only if I had found some of these great videos in time of need sometimes it’s too late the cut and paste had been made , but I’m not giving up as of yet there are many more projects to learn and apply , thank you kindly Kelly the dude up North have a nice day :)

      Sponsorships and ads are how I pay my bills. I know people don’t love them but tried to make it less obtrusive this way. Glad to hear some positive feedback on it! Thank you!

    You make well made furniture from affordable lumber. The way you explain things. And explain to the critics. Is interesting. I've been doing woodwork for 19 years. And enjoy your videos and simplicity with amazing results. Just keep doing what your doing.

      @@WoodshopDiaries wow a reply. That shows class and good manners. English is not my first language. When I said simplicity. It was not meant your designs. It's the tools and effortless way you put your work together. You make it look simple even though some of what your designs looks complicated. Your like a ballerina of woodwork. Great fundamentals. Good passion for what you do. Good finishing. Great end result . Thank you for your great videos. Just keep growing your skills. You inspired my niece to start woodworking she's 13.

    Very good looking. When you designed this, what did you use, pencil and paper, SketchUp, etc? Reason I asked is the “items” you are learning about as you progressed through your build. I know you said “design in your head”, but thought maybe you put what was in your head on paper or computer before the build. So, how long do you spend at the local store picking out straight lumber. Do you buy from a locally owned company or, one of the big box stores?

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thank you! I imagine what I want to build and usually just use my visual to put the pieces together. Sometimes I sketch on paper first but I very rarely draw it on the computer before it’s actually built. I only sketch it on a computer in order to share the plans on my website. I don’t actually use plans myself.
      I don’t spend too long at the store looking for lumber. I check that it’s more twisted and it’s in good shape and load it up. Ten minutes or so. I buy my plywood and 2x4s at the big big store (better selection and quality) and my 1x stuff and trim at my local building supplier.
