  • It is no surprise that the Dutch say things the way they are... very bluntly.. and in this video they do just that about their dating preferences. This is an older video that I didn't put up on TH-cam right away but found it much later and figured I would post it. Sorry for the sound quality - I lost the audio attachment.
    Dating Beyond Borders is a TH-cam channel that focuses on highlighting the cultural differences that come into play while dating people from other countries. Videos out every Thursday - hit the bell button to receive notifications!

    When I first dated a Dutch guy he took me to a nice restaurant. I was impressed until he explained proudly that he will get 50% discount from Jumbo supermarket coupon. 😆

    When going out with a Dutch man or woman, be open about your intentions , be honest and direct ( not too direct of course ) don't be afraid that you don't speak the language, English will work just fine. It's considered polite for the man to pay on the first date, but don't be surprised if you pay for your own food and drinks after that.

    I feel like the “macho man” who is very stereotypically passionate and romantic and treats the lady as a princess is good for short term. But for long term I think, for me personally, I like men who value equality. Like if I have a baby and say I get postpartum depression, he won’t dump all the chores and cooking on me and will be more open to share our feelings with each other’. Besides, these men are romantic once they know they’re serious about you vs. the other men who are romantic with everyone. While more traditional, overly macho men think their job is mainly just to make money. At least that the impression this channel has made on me, obviously these are just stereotypes though! There are always exceptions!

    • @tylersmith3139
      @tylersmith3139 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So being passionate and romantic means you think your partner is less than you. Do when girls do stuff for guys, is that bad? Is she demeaning him, no, she's simply being kind and showing that she cared. Women like to say chivalry is dead, but the only reason why it's dead is because they killed it. For example, the reason guys pay for the date is because they're the one who initiated it so they pay for their idea, but girls had this stupid idea that they should pay for a night where they were invited to come and enjoy themselves for free. If you invite your friend on a camping trip, you wouldn't make them pay for the expenses of the trip because you were the person who initiated it, but people want to typical male like being macho and helpful into a bad thing, "oh it's toxic masculinity" what about toxic feminity, no that doesn't exist because women are perfect. It's so stupid, men are inherently macho, it's doesn't harm anyone Ave women like men who are a little bit macho as long as they aren't arrogant or obnoxious. That's why women don't really go for beta men.

    • @eteold
      @eteold 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Almansur8 You caught that also!

    • @AeneasGemini
      @AeneasGemini 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that what you described isn't equality, you want him to help with *your* feelings, but in my experience when men actually show their emotional vulnerability women quickly start to think less of them (in one case I've even seen a girl get outright hostile when my friend shared his feelings, it was the truth and he was being very vulnerable, just not what she wanted to hear).
      In the end I'd love a partner who I could treat like a true equal, but in the end women only want to be equal in ways that benefit them. You can say what you like in disagreement, but actions always speak louder than words, and it's rare to meet a woman whose actions match her supposed lofty ideals (though who knows, maybe that's rare with men too idk).
      The point being, you can chat whatever shit you like, but it's meaningless until your deeds reflect your words

The interesting one is that many of them have (secretly) hatred to men. And they use men as their slave or like "semen machine" only for getting children. Stay away from them, otherwise you'll get many troubles.. for more information check this TH-cam channel as follows:

      Lilliath Of course you're familiar with it. One day (even very soon) there will be come that hundreds (maybe thousands) dutch men will choosing the way of MGTOW. Even we will get many attention by the media. Nowadays many men who lives in the Netherlands are opening their eyes, and it's just the beginning. Stop manipulating people around you (don't worry you can not manipulate us anymore. If you have still respect to yourselves, be fair to yourself). So do you think when men in the western society abused and persecuted by western feminazi women, do you think I'll be quiet?! Never! I'll expose the truth until my last breath. MGTOW is not a movement, but a philosophical community. Typically characteristic feature of a dutch woman. When they can't find a rational argument they immediately twists and attacks other men with insulting and useless responds. The end of " feminism" is near..

    • @Lilliathi
      @Lilliathi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate feminism, stop making stupid assumptions about me. The MGTOW movement will never become big, that's delusional. I'm insulting? You just called me a stupid bitch, but I'm insulting?
      You're not a MGTOW, you're an actual misogynist who's desperately trying to recruit other men to his cause. The MGTOW movement has good points and a part of it is respectable, you're not that part.

    I thought women would find it offensive if a man pays for the date in the Netherlands?

    • @hiddedeboer4411
      @hiddedeboer4411 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really I think. I (as a Dutch guy) found that they like the offer. Me (and most of my friends) offer to pay on the first date, if they decline ask if they are sure and if they decline a second time go 50/50. I think Dutch girls find it offensive if a man insists on paying for a date if a girl wants to go 50/50 because the man is then already deciding things for her.
      It also goes the other way around. Most men are more than happy to pay on the first date, but if a girl expects the man to pay on the first date, it is a big turnof

    Dutch girls totally not emancipated. They are very traditional in regard to sex and love and they never do first step. Can somebody tell me from Norway is the truth that girls pick up guys in Norway or its just myth.I have heard that norway girls are not emancipated at all and especially in film myth about gender equality in Norway. I saw in Russia girls pick up much more guys than in west countries although west countries allegedely invest much more in gender equality. So russian girls and east european girls are much more emancipated in regard to sex and love.

    Just because a few Dutch people are like this, doesn’t mean they all are. In every country the citizens aren’t the same and don’t share the same opinions. Don’t judge us based on the opinions of these people and think we’re all like them. And also don’t judge the Dutch people in this video, they’re having a hard time explaining themselves in English. You don’t know them and the answers to these questions don’t define them, so how can you know what kind of person they are? You can’t.

    "Don't be too macho".."Don't be alpha male" That's the reason I could never date a dutch man. I am latina and in my culture women are proud to be women and men are proud to be men. We have our own gender roles. Women take care of the husband , kids and home and the men is the provider and protector of the family. And this way has always worked great in my culture. But since moving here about 5 years ago I find that it's the opposite with dutch society. Men behave more like women and the women behave like men. Most women can be very compatitive, care too much about degrees, are rude, don't want to get married and can't even cook. And the men they are hardworking but too soft, not masculine and will not even pay for a woman if they go on a date. After awhile I understood that dutch men see women as their "equal" so they think if she works , she can pay for her own. That's just a big no-no in my culture. Cause men paying for women shows he is masculine and a good provider. I just feel the Netherlands have taken this "gender equality" thing too far.

      As a Dutch woman I agree that Dutch dating is very confusing since verybody has different expectations, which if not spoken about in advance can result in disappointment, offense, hurt, and so on.

    • @karmicmaster420

      I understand and respect that your culture is different. However, I believe woman should be educated and get degrees. I think independence is admirable and something everyone should learn to gain. I do not believe the Dutch culture has taken equlity too far. In fact, there is no such thing as taking equility too far. Equility is equility. I do not believe being more feminine makes you less a man then masculinity make you any less a woman. Both feminitity and masculinity are shrouded by stereotypes that are often untrue and puts pressure on both genders. I don't see anything wrong with people who follow gender roles, nor people who choose not to follow them. Some woman just are more masculine, and some men are more feminine. In the end, it is all up to a persons personality or innate nature. I feel that gender roles pressures individuals to act a certain way that is deemed proper in the eyes of Society. I think people should be free to be who they are and still be proud. As the modern world is progressing, we should learn to embrace equality more as a human race. The pressures of the old age are not the same anymore. As technology grows and changes, so can we. :)

    • @Salsaholic1978
      @Salsaholic1978 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@karmicmaster420 I agree with you and Dutch women normally get their education ( I have a degree myself and would never have considered not getting one) and are equal on most every level. Don't misunderstand me. I think that's a good development. But since there are no specific gender roles anymore, since the options have increased so has confusion in the dating world. Both men and women often don't know what to expect from the other anymore and even if you discuss it there will most likely be awkwardness.

      Gender roles are up to some point healthy and good for a relationship.

    • @zeekbrickett8095
      @zeekbrickett8095 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I strongly agree, however its not just sexist or antiquated. In the context of a sexual- romantic love relationship, it means that one person in the relationship does not regard the other as a sex object or lover. Instead that one person is being exploited financially or materialistically based on their gender. Sexual romantic love relationships are based upon attraction, whether it be physical or mental qualities of each other.
      You notice that in most countries they don't call it a sexual-romantic love relationship or some equivalent of that in their native language? Haven't you ever wondered why? Most countries will call it, romantic or sexual or love, but rarely ever a combination of all those.

  • @SIG442
    @SIG442 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    She shouldn't pay the bill? Well he sure isn't a real Dutch guy then! haha
    For me as being Dutch:
    - Don't wear too much make-up.
    - Don't dive head first in to the paint, your natural hair color is more attractive to me then a faked hair color.
    - On dates we do 50-50 with the bill, you pay whatever you ordered and I pay whatever I ordered. Don't drive up the costs as it is insulting. Claiming a man should pay for a date you are on as well is rather insulting as well.
    - Allow me to be a man, don't try to change me into a woman.
    - Sex on the first date is a no-go area, wait until we had at least 2 or 3 dates at least.
    - Don't act or dress like a slut, bit of skin is no problem but I don't need to see the goods before even getting to that stage. Show some self respect, nothing wrong with that.
    - If it ever comes to living together, don't think you are the only one to clean the house. We are living together in the same house and there for we share the cleaning!
    - In case of kids, you don't get to hog them alone and scream how you do everything as that won't be working. You get kids together, then act together.
    - Don't be selfish.
    - Don't be a pain.
    - Don't be a gold digger.
    - Don't try to pose as being more important then me, we are equals regardless of whatever you can come up with.
    - Drugs is a no-go thing, the relationship will end right then and there. No way back.
    - Drinking alcohol is no problem, being drunk all the time is a serious turn down.
    - I am not into sharing you, we do not go to some couples club or other sex place.
    - Cheating is a serious problem, do that and I will dump you right away. I have zero respect for cheaters.
    - Don't lie, it's seriously disrespectful. Be honest, it works a lot better n any relationship.
    - Don't beat around the bush, be direct.
    - Don't play hint games, if I want to play hints I will tell you.
    - Don't forget that communication is key, a relationship will break if you do forget that.
    - Don't expect a huge wedding, I seriously don't care for it and I rather spend money on the future then 1 day nearly bankrupting us both.
    - Don't try to over do things, no need for that.
    - Don't think you need to spread your photo's everywhere showing your body off. A healthy relationship can't use that and it's also a insult to me. If you want to be so badly on photo, I do photography so we can do a private thing if you really want to do something with that. (and no, things do not get leaked unless you do it yourself. Even if the relationship breaks I wouldn't spread photo's)
    - Don't act like a princess, won't work on me. I rather drop you from my life if you do.
    - What the guy at 3:56 says is true, don't stick a thumb up my ass. I am not gay and I only see that as a exit only.
