Its good to see you back on the full suspension! Also the new edits and music are super cool! I recently got to try LMNT and it was good! Way better than Liquid IV!
I subscribed to this channel back when it hit 10K subs. It’s nice to see a big loop back to the old times and let’s be honest it brings back memories:)
Evan, ....to lower that seat post as much as possible, I suggest you install a OneUp V2 dropper post. You may even want to go longer travel as it is adjustable, so you may lower travel depending upon how high you feel the stock post is. It has a much more narrow seat tube collar so the post will drop lower when the saddle is slammed to the seat tube. It has a lower profile saddle clamp which practically allows the saddle to drop to the rails. It makes a big difference in the feel of that saddle being out of the way when it's all fully slammed.
@@EvansMTBSagaIt makes a huge difference. I'll give you an example, on my YT jeffsy I had a stock 170 mm YT post. While the YT post was slammed to the collar and fully extended, that was as low as I would want it to be based on my full leg extension (I hope that makes sense😅). ... When I replaced it, I was able to install a 210 mm OneUp dropper and had a comparable ride height. ...I just got a Team Marin 2 and being in between sizes I sized up, problem was the stock 150mm Trans-X dropper post was way too long for my inseam when fully extended. I replaced it with the OneUp post 150 mm and it's perfect. ... Excited to see how your build turns out. Keep up the excellent content. Thanks!
I picked up a DSE a little while back. It has been a seriously awesome bike for me so far. The only upgrade ive had to do with it is a new wheelset since i blew out the rear hub after about 30 miles. I went with the Hunt Trailwides and couldnt be happier. The engagement is way better than the stock wheels.
@@kennethfieldsend1858 For the price right now they are hard to pass up. Much better hub engagement, weight savings, and tubeless ready with valves included. I do think you will be happy with them should you purchase them.
Thank you for doing the sensible thing of swapping your bars. It really annoys me when I watch a TH-camr instantly chop 40mm off a test bike’s bars instead of using the favourite they own. I hope you enjoy the bike… at least until you decide you need another hardtail. I’d recommend the Pipedream Sirius and Canfield Nimble 9, oh, and you should search everywhere for a second hand BTR Ranger. 👍🏻
I have this bike and I love it. Agree with you on the cranks and dropper post being too long and may be the first things you will need to upgrade though. Check your rear hub though as this may need to be replaced before anything else. If it’s generic with no branding, save yourself some heartache and pull it off straight away to put something decent on its place as the generic hubs that Polygon have put on the SE are known to fail on a very regular basis. Mine completely failed within 100km. I put a Nukeproof Horizon v2 on the back - zero regrets.
Good point! I got an ex-demo version of this bike and it arrived with this problem. Even after my LBS shop replaced the bearing set, they suggested replacing the rear hub or entire wheel.
My sweat is pretty salty but not as salty as the sponsor, seriously it's good stuff. The editing was pretty sweet, this channel is rapidly becoming my favorite, relatable but not boring 🤘
Wow am liking the colors of the D7 did had an idea that Evan loves Polygon, just as much I love Marin, and for $1300 that is a good deal right there. If given the opportunity to ride full suspension I will love to try it out.
I've bought the exact same bike, thinking of fitting a Reba or Revelation fork. Keeping standard brakes but fitting 203 disc F/wheel and putting 180 on rear
Hey Evan, I purchased the DSE after watching your initial D7 videos. As a first bike it was perfect to learn on and I couldn’t be happier. Here’s my upgrade list. Fox 34 130mm Tubeless Magura trail brakes Bars, pedals, grips. I think it could still use a better riser button and like you said shorter cranks. What length do you have in mind?
these polygon bikes are pretty dope and have good parts and for a good price. might buy one soon but they are hard to find at any bike shop. Around here
I read your review of the d7 on sagamtb. A piece that stood out to me was that you said you thought it was unlikely that it could be upgraded to be sub 30lbs. Well I've got a medium d7 (xc build) and it's currently weighing in at 27.8lbs. Not only is it possible but not even that difficult. With an unlimited budget I could probably get into the 25lbs range.
i also had a D7 and loved it...but got a D7SE expecting the same bike. The D7SE was shipped to me from Bikesonline with a different rear hub than the D7...a generic hub with far fewer points of engagement. Bikesonline did not disclose this in it's advertising and blamed it on Polygon changing components indiscriminately. The reason the D7SE is much less expensive than the D7 is because it has cheaper components, and many people who have purchased the D7SE have had problems with them such as the rear hub failing, and other wheelset issues.
Glad you're finally reviewing this! Shame it comes right as the bike seems to have permanently gone out of stock in the UK (the cheapest I ever saw it was £849. absolutely insane price). Also, did I miss how much it weighs in the video? Curious how this thing would climb
I would be a little bit hesitant about how durable some very important parts like the stem and handlebars are if they are "nameless" unproven brand, but they are some of the cheapest to upgrade so the value is still insane for full sus IF the frame will hold up.
I noticed that the seat post on my Siskiu is pretty tall also by about 10 or 15mm. I wish there was a way to shorten the dropper that comes with the bike but I don’t think there is.
I have the same bike! I have had some highend bikes sworks evils santacruz ect. My polygon siskiu d7 is my favourite bike. Every time i ride it, it just gets better. I have but DVO Sapphire fork and topaz on it and ride way above its 120mm says. I also but some galfer pads and rotors on it and oneup bars and rev grips. I cannot fault that bike.
Evan, Im pretty excited for the Siskiu D to see where you go with it. I bought a D6 and pulled off everything and put it on my Trek Marlin (minus rear hub ) and sold that to a guy getting his first real MTB. I pulled most off my stuff off my custom Ragley Big Al and install them on my D6 and after a couple of rides and I was feeling like the T7 was more my style. So now I have a 2023 T7, which I pulled ALL the parts off (Including the 140mm Rockshox Recon) and put them on the D6 to sell, and all my Ragley parts are now on the T7 minus a couple of things.I haven't sold the D6 YET, but now excited to see if you change my mind :) Love your series, I remember when you did the High Low series with the D5 you said you liked it better than the Yeti, but you kept the Yeti. Ready for the next adventure :)
Oh yeah I had to reduce the amount of bikes i had for the move and the Yeti wasn't going to be easy to quickly offload. Its cool to hear you like swapping parts around like I do haha
They're awesome. What type of riding do you do? I'm mainly hard packed and the low rolling resistance is amazing. With loose over hard, they aren't the best, but I'll gladly take the fast rolling tires because it's great for 95% of my riding
Great videos on the d7 and d7SE... Do you think buying the SE is worth it to have the boost front fork setup - even though I may not upgrade forks for a while. Is the Suntour fork on the SE worse? But for future proofing if something breaks, then I eventually will. Or is the regular d7 better with the rockshox fork and just now worry about it?
SE is definitely the way to go. The non boost front wheel is a pain to deal with if upgrading and the Rockshox fork is about the same quality as a Suntour. Plus the SE has strengthened the seat tube & top tube gusset. If you do decide to buy, could you click my link and then go through with the purchase? (No pressure, I know something like that is a big purchase)
I’m really leaning towards this bike for next season. Been riding 3 bike park seasons on a 2003 Giant NRS-1. Heavily modernized/upgraded but at the end of the day, it’s a short travel “ancient” XC bike and my body needs a break from all the chatter 😂 I don’t think I need a long travel bike considering how far I’ve gotten with 80-100mm of travel
Abajo peak is like $1999 from what I'm seeing. If that's your budget, I'd recommend a Polygon Siskiu T8 which has similar travel and better components than the Fezzari. The d7 is great for local riding and grinding out singletrack
