    if you lift the water reservoir high enough. you can gravity feed it to the plants by drilling a hole in the container lower than the top of the water and put in a valve. open the valve three times a day and your done. you could even put in a solenoid to open the valve three times a day or have a power valve. so you could do it without the pump. just a thought.

    Truly helpful video. Unfortunately, I'm not in the States, otherwise I would have ordered your kit yesterday (literally, as I watched this last night :-)).
    Question: what are the insert nets for? Cleaning/replacing the Perlite? Or just to prevent the outlet from clogging? If it is the latter, one could cover that outlet (pipe) with some smaller pieces of netting only? (because so far, I can't source those nets locally).

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. the main reason is to keep the outlet from clogging. The secondary reason is it easier to move and take out to clean if ever needed. Thanks for watching. Video on options for grow medium coming soon.

      The 1 inch hole (1.1"works even better) is needed for the 3/4" grommet (Outside diameter is 1"). The outside diameter of the the 1/2" pvc is the inside diameter of the 3/4"grommet.

    how do you clean and store your perlite from the dutch buckets in-between growing. I live in Ohio and do my dutch buckets outside so after the growing season I have to do something with it before winter comes. I started with 60 buckets last year with great success and I have moved up to 228 buckets this year. I saw that one guy soaks his paint strainers with the perlite in a mild bleach water, then rinses it, lets it dry, then dumps the perlite into 55 gallon plastic drums then next season dumps back into each bucket with strainer. Does this sound about right to you? or do you have an easier method? Thank you for your time!

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would work fine. We grow all year and tested some perlite that has not been changed for years and new perlite. no difference. We do disinfect every 6 months or so with H2O2. Video on that soon.

    Is this only for a greenhouse? If you set this up out in the open how do you avoid flooding the system when it rains?

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is being done outside as well, The buckets will not flood since they continually drain. The 27 gallon bin can over flow from the rain, but just check your TDS (nutrient level) and adjust if needed. See the nutrient TH-cam video. Thanks

    • @greenhousesolutions1074

      2 possibilities:

    • @greenhousesolutions1074

      I will have a complete aquaponics video out soon. Been doing that successfully for 7 years. Sometimes fish upkeep can be more expensive than using the Masterblend nutrients. You can add fish, but be careful not to add too many too fast - would cause an ammonia spike and kill the fish. Everything will be explained in the video. Thanks

    #pleaseassist ..hello , i practice hydroponic farming where i grow tomatoes..planting medium is pumice..can you please help with the ratios of nutrients required at different stages of growth in tomato plants ie. seedling stage, flowering stage and fruiting stage...your advice will really help.

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using the Masterblend ratios is great for all stages. The plant will use everything it needs at it's different stages. If you want to back off the Calcium nitrate to half through fruiting that would be fine, but the plants continue to grow and produce well for 2 years. So that being said, the plant is actually in all stages. Thanks, Randy You can get the best price on Masterblend nutrient packs at www.CompleteGrowing.com

    do you need to determine that the slump tank needs to be able to hold all the water from all the buckets in case pump failure, so you don't get overflow in the slump tank?

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. You start with a full nutrient (slump) tank and then turn on the pump. Never more water than the system can handle. We use a timer to turn on and off the pump anyway.
      Thanks

      @@greenhousesolutions1074 that means your additional water is added at the slump tank? if the system is outside (not in greenhouse), rain could be added to the system which could over flood the slump tank?

    • @greenhousesolutions1074

      Yes. Rain outside can overflow tank if not protected. If outside, I keep the tank at 1/2 full. Thanks

    What is the size of your feeder line into the bucket? I have tried to different pumps and am only able to get my water go about 6 feet even when my pumps say the can go 25 feet, any thoughts on how I can get it to go to my last bucket?

      Use reducers on your first few buckets (1/8 inch) 1/2 inch main line, 1/4" feeders.

    Where can I buy the complete system?

    • @greenhousesolutions1074
      @greenhousesolutions1074  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      www.CompleteGreenhouse.com has everything you need.
      Suggest the kits because shipping buckets, PVC pipe and perlite can be expensive.
      Manard's is the best followed by stores like LOWES to purchase buckets and PVC. Feed stores or garden supply stores usually carry perlite.
      If you just want the convenience and not worried about the shipping, Complete Greenhouse does have everything.

    Very much a beginner question here but, my bucket is filling up with water and not draining well. There’s a puddle of perlite in the center. My pump is working at its lowest setting possible… what can I do?

    • @rplatow4120
      @rplatow4120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Create some space at the outlet drain of the bucket. A little bit of large gravel or pieces of pvc at the bottom can help.Perlite might be too fine and not allowing to drain correctly.

    How do you make sure all the buckets get a similar flow of water? I just finished my build and for some reason there are some buckets that receive little to no flow of water.

    • @rplatow4120
      @rplatow4120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use an adapter T between buckets. This evens the flow. 1/2" for main T and 1/4"x1/2"x1/4" T between buckets. Minimum of 270GPH pump.
