Firstly, you and Myla could never bore me! I am in the usa in the DC area, and just one item on your produce haul would cost much more than $1.95. But, of course, everything is relative. It has been wicked hot here as well, but I am by no means an outdoor person so I only step out to go to work or run an errand and back home. If I never had to leave my apartment I would be very happy. I have got my Abby, my books, air conditioning and my wine or tea and that is all I need. I feel badly for Myla. Cats defintely cannot tolerate the heat. Love chickpeas any way you cook them. You two stay well, and I will see you next week.
I’m the same:) I can stay indoors for days and be just fine with it! That’s why I love online shopping and avoid the big stores all the time. We are planning to visit DC area and I will definitely contact you to find a way to meet up somewhere, oh and maybe finally see Abby too ♥️
I'm so glad I found your vlog! I'm here in Bucharest, visiting for five weeks (on my third week now). I agree, the weather is *awfully* hot! It affects me too. I try to get out early in the morning, like by 8 a.m. because I know by 11 it's going to be hot and just get worse throughout the day. Sometimes I don't want to go out at all. There's no a/c in my Airbnb, but I do have a desk fan + a ceiling fan - and cold showers, ha! Your salad at the end with the bread looks so good! I want to make it myself. Your kitty is beautiful, too!

Your little grocery haul is cheaper (a lot) than here in the states, even at my local farmers market. My mom always made Mujdei for my dad, he's all Serbian. It was more of a paste for all his meats etc. My mom was Lithuanian and enjoyed it too.
Thanks for commenting Arlene:) Do you remember if she used sour cream as a main ingredient? We have Lithuanian shops in UK and they’re so similar to Romanian ones, I love to go there. They also have polenta and their barrel pickles are amazingly delicious! Can you speak the language?:)

No, I don't speak the language, but my dad always spoke Serbian to my grandma & his church does mass in Serbian than does it in English. He loved garlic ate a whole clove every day. He lived to be 96.💙

Eu sunt din Bucovina , la mine mujdeiul în mod tradițional se face mult mai simplu. Se iau câțiva căței de usturoi , și se pisează împreună cu niște sare mare până devine o pastă omogenă , se adaugă apă și cam atât , asta în mod tradițional , sănătate multă .
Ce interesant! Fără ulei și fără oțet. Apă rece?

@@simple.d_vlogsla mine in familie se adauga apa minerala (sparkling water). Doar usturoi, sare, un pic de ulei se freaca bine si se adauga apa minerala, dar nu multă.
Asa de interesante mi se pare diferențele astea culinare între regiunile din RO 🙌🏼 …

Varianta mea preferată de mujdei este usturoi cu smântână sau cu maioneză și un pic de iaurt. 😋.. Și eu am uitat gustul la cartofi prăjiți de când nu am mai făcut..😊 Trebuie să-mi fac zilele astea că prea poftă mi-ai făcut cu ei.. Ți-au ieșit minunat.. Atât de crispy🤤❤
Ce tare! Și eu știu rețeta asta dar uite ca noi nu o numim mujdei ci “smântână cu usturoi” pentru ca in mintea noastră mujdeiul trebuie să aibe apă clocotită să elibereze usturoiul aroma aia anume:) dar daaa e yummy foarte tare rețeta ta!

To answer the questions, I’m on the coast, Constanta county and it’s hot as hell. I’m trying to recover after getting a certain contagious disease (again) and I simply can’t, this heat is draining every ounce of energy I have.
As for “mujdei” nah, we make it much thicker than that. My family is from all over the country (grandparents from Banat, Transylvania proper, Moldova, Oltenia, Muntenia and moved to Dobrogea) so I might know recipes for certain dishes from only my moldovan granny or from my dobrogean aunty, making me a very unrelable source of “how to properly cook traditional Romanian dishes”.😊 I think I make mujdei like in Moldova.
If you allow me a little tip, maybe unhelpful but who knows: supplement your diet with some actual vitamins (like B12), we, people who are mostly vegetarian tend to be a bit down and depressive and not cope too well with extended periods of heat or cold.
I’m actually getting B12 tomorrow.. thanks for reminding me! I also make a thick mujdei for fish for example but I call that garlic sour cream (smântână cu usturoi :) because that’s what it is I simply mix them both and add a little oil and salt (no hot water!) How do you make your mujdei? I want to try! 😊
@@simple.d_vlogs Just crushed garlic, a little oil, salt and a bit of water, like a tablespoon or so depending on how many cloves. My mom and aunties add a touch of vinegar too. Tbh I can’t really eat it, I have a mild allergy (my tongue goes numb) but when I do it’s thick, we use it for fish too or as a dipping sauce for…I’m going to switch to Romanian here “hamsii prajite”, something you can find a lot of in our region. Those tiny ones you buy on the beach in French fries size portions, people love those here.

În sud e cu nu foarte multă apă rece cu sare grunjoasă, dar în sud-est e ca o pastă deci usturoi, sare grunjoasă, ulei -cam ca aioli-ul spaniol (și noi avem cuvântul ,,ai" ce înseamnă usturoi, dar cred că e un termen vechi latin cam ieșit din uz nu se știe de ce)
Când zici sud la care localitate majora te referi?:) mama e din sud (Oltenia lângă Craiova) și se face cum l-am făcut în vlog cu apă fierbinte și cu oțet. Mi se pare fascinant cât de diferit se face în toată țara, mi-au plăcut toate comentariile atât aici cât și pe Instagram !
Denumirea latina a usturoiului este Allium. Probabil ca de acolo...

Hei buna. Pentru mujdei cred ca e super mega obligatoriu un mojar cu pistil (nu stiu daca este specific doar in anumite zone din Ro, dar cred ca majoritatea il folosesc). Traditional este cel din lemn pe care il gasesti cam peste tot, in toate targurile sau pietele din Ro, mai fancy sunt cele din granit sau alte materiale. Depresia din cauza caldurii excesive este o afectiune din ce in ce mai prezenta in viata mea (plus senzatia de rau fizic si tensiune sczuta permanenta :(
Daaa știu ca regula e cu mojar dar nu îl am aici momentan (dacă ai văzut vlogurile recente, m-am mutat de curând in apartamentul ăsta moștenire de la bunica, pe care l-am renovat) Tot am zis ca îmi iau unul dar nu am curaj sa merg la piață pe iadul ăsta de afară 🙈 Oh și eu am tensiune mică și mă omoară lent căldura chiar și dacă în casă nu leșin de cald este ceva în atmosferă care mă termină psihic și fizic :((

I love that raw garlic trick , I'm defo going to try it - do you remove it before eating, or eat the cloves?
I eat it:) but you can remove it if you want. It works for any soup and stew or even curry. Just drop some crushed cloves in there once you stopped cooking and it will realese a nice subtle flavour. I normally rushed them with the knife blade just pressing down with my palm:) Enjoy! 😋

I was craving hot weather because summer in Ireland is very bad this year (even for Ireland 😅). I'm visiting my parents in Poland for 4 weeks but this week we are on holidays in Croatia 🇭🇷. It's 36 degrees and it's a bit too much, even with a pool. Can't imagine 40. My Moldovan neighbours went home in July and it was 42 degrees they told me. Crazy!

E ceva de groază, creierul meu e în ceață mereu și nu mai am chef de nimic.. iar eu by nature sunt plină de viață și energie. Și pisicuța mea e letargică și fără mood..

Depinde unde e pozitionat, depinde cat e de mare, depinde ce utilitati ai langa el, depinde cati bani esti dispusa sa investesti intr-o casa de vacanta/cabana. Pentru ca, in functie de asta, ai putea vinde terenul si sa iti cumperi o casuta. pt ca... o constructie noua, cu autorizatii, materiale si manopera e ridicata, in principiu.. Inteleg ca e mostenit, dar trebuie sa ti se si potriveasca buzunarului.

vad ca ai origini croate,daca nu gresesc inseamna ca tatal tau se trage din Carasova,din cate stiu doar acolo exista croati in Romania(am cunoscut pe cineva din Carasova,etnic croat,faini oameni),vorbesti sarbocroata? si bunica mea paterna era sarboaica,dar nu l-a invatat pe tata meu limba,mie mi-ar fi prins bine in viata de stiam sarba. noi acasa facem mujdeiul cu smantana,ulei si umpic de mustar,si il facem gros. asa se face in familia mea cel putin. eu sunt aradean,de origini din Macea/Pilu jud Arad,dar mama e unguroaica din Salaj.

Cred ca unul dintre bunici era de pe acolo, dar tata nu e născut în Carasova, dar nu departe deloc. Nimeni nu știe sarbo croată din păcate, nici din partea mamei nici din partea lui. Nici nici :(
