I found some horrors on my 1100G. Number one it was an 1100H according to the chassis number. The engine had some welding on the crankcase lowers, probably a bad crash repair. In UK we have age related number plates. Instead of an expected 86 C or D it was an 89 F, I think it was probably originally a race bike and put back on the road at the later.l date. I was taken in by the overall presentation which was good and everything was there. I restored it, replacing lots of old parts including the suspension both ends, full stainless system, and had the panels repaired, and repainted as a G in blue and white and it now looks almost like new. It’s also strange it still has some G model components on it, front spindle, front fender and tank, so it’s still a mystery. As you say many owners over the years leaving there mark lol! I’m looking forward to seeing you turn around your 750 it deserves the effort 😊
Thanks Ian, I just release the first 2 videos on the restoration and im currently with a bare frame. The engine in my 86 is an 88 slingshot R707 ending and it’s buggered is several ways. Since it’s no original anyway it’s going to be cheaper to source a B12 for it or another donor.
Thanks for your reply! Your 750 chassis will fly with the 1200 lump in there. I’ve got a ‘97 MK1 1200 Bandit with 57000 miles on the clock, it’s heavy but still so much fun to ride. 😊
@@ianhoyle8459I bought a 98 bandit s 1200 as a donor but it’s pristine and too nice to part it out , so now I’m searching for another one. U can see the bandit I got in one of my vids here. Cheers! Happy new year !
Yes I thought it was good that you decided not to harvest the engine from your bandit. I’m looking forward to seeing you resurrect the GSXR as you say you can have a blank canvas and do what you want with it, without devaluation; a mega engine and modern wheel sizes? But I think whatever you do will make a good investment anyway and save another classic machine 😊 Happy New Year 🎉👍
@@true-moto-resto I can relate, needed to replace a lot of parts from the engine. Mine did not move at all when I started. Best of luck for your project!
It’s alot of work and a lot of fun. This will me my 10th or 11th restoration. Check out some of the other Vids I have a few of them filmed. I wish I had filmed them all.
Enjoy this rebuild! I bought this bike new in 1986 and rolled it off the showroom floor rte. 1 New Hampshire. I wish I still had that bike. Have fun! ENJOY
Well thats a blast from the past, first gen Gsxr750 air oil cooled engine, would look good if you get it back to blue and white trim. Hope all goes well.
Im undecided on the colour. Since its not the original engine, I may do the Skoal Bandit greensand white ...maybe. Job 1 is get it running at some point before I start spending $ on it
I used a loading dock at the place I got it from and have 2 ramps I use when at home , one to walk down, one for the bike. Works pretty well. Plus at home I have a designated load/unload area which keeps my ramps almost horizontal so makes it easy
yay a 750 slabby. looking forward to following this restoration, I have a 88 slingshot. ( personal request, please turn down your radio when filming, some of your other videos are extremely distracting)
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, at the moment potential is all that it has LOL. I’ve started collecting new parts for the project this winter.
Looking forward to this resto how many miles does the clock show these bikes always struck me as being a bit fragile in the engine department but that may stem from some of the early ones snapping big end bolts
Hi Karl, 46,000 km on the bike but the engine is an R707 which makes in an 88-90 slingshot 750 engine, So likely the original engine bit the dust and this was replaced.
Hey, love the video ! If you're looking for Slabby bits, Suzuki UK have a vintage parts programme and they've got a list of 85-88 750 parts if it's any help 😊
@@true-moto-resto a man of good taste in magazines ! 👌 my interest piqued as soon as you said Skoal Bandit rep tho, it's gonna be cooler than a polar bear's privates when it's done !
@@asasendall3950 lol yea, I hope so . I keep flip flopping on colours but Skoal is still at the top. Have to get her running first make sure it’s not banging
Well, it’s certainly been left outside a long time that is certain. But if I get her running, she will be restored. The engine turns over, so as long as it doesn't knock/smoke bad, I should be good to go. Carbs are a mess so that will be a big challenge. I didn't pay much, so fingers crossed. If she runs, the rest will be easy-ish. If not, well I can get more for the parts than I paid for it.
thanks for watching, I don’t publish what I pay or what I put into them. But all in all I’m happy with the deal regardless of what I find form this point forward..
Nice Bike, I would like that kind of project too!

I bought a GSX-R 750 from 1986 in almost same condition two years ago.. finished the project last month 😅
Congrats, I will start mine this winter , Hopefully by spring it’s finished. At this point the engine is the biggest concern.

I've always enjoyed the older GSXRs those headlights
Just a cool bike
you can bring it back and have one hell of a bike. i have a 86 gsxr 750, got it in 1987. runs strong today.
Thanks, I restored the bike this past winter. There is a whole series on my channel of its restoration, check it out !
This one is a rebuild that I'm going to enjoy. I love 1st Gen GSX-R750's. Nice!
Cheers, it will be a challenge thats for sure
The song playing at the beginning when you’re explaining what you’re buying is perfect for the situation of buying a project

Great project, just love these bikes. Looks like a 1100 slabside tank
Hmmm, anything is possible , I’ll have to look into that more, I think the 87 750 bikes had the hump tank too? (Same tank as the 1100)
@@true-moto-resto As far as I am aware the 86 had the smaller tank.
@@ralphharrison1274 yea it seem the 86 had the flat top smaller capacity tank. Cheers
Great find and at least it's in the best place to get fully restored and looking like new :)
Thanks ! I hope so!
I find a solid crate as a step, over a second ramp to walk up is easier to load and unload.

First sport bike ever rode same color back 1993
If it was in Canada maybe it was this very Bike
I like it just the way it is. But yes some kind of Resto is needed. You should park it in some tall grass and take some pictures.
I think it spent the last few yrs parked in tall grass. It will stay in my shop now until it gets restored .
Looks like ye have a slingshot engine in there going by the clutch arm on the casing slabbys had hydralic pushrod
