    Cardi B’s persona wouldn’t work if she was male because the bling era is over and males flaunting their looks and success would just be a generic dime a dozen. Her music makes sense in the context that she does it. I’m sure if a man was making the music Beyoncé was making it wouldn’t be nearly as successful or popular either, but that doesn’t really say much about the talent or quality of their respective works.

    Bowie and Reznor are both groundbreaking in different ways. In all honesty, I don't think Reznor wants to be "accessible", flashy, and dramatic as Bowie was, and I don't think Bowie would have wanted to be as cold, dark, and serious as Reznor is. That makes Bowie a more household-friendly name as a byproduct, but both are artists doing their thing; one just has a sound that is easier to digest than the other.

    • @spoonptsd
      @spoonptsd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Literally one Era of bowie aka ziggy stardust is a flashy type, bowie has been dark and has been in a dark place and created a charector,thin white duke, and yet if someone was dressed as the th in white duke it is still a recodnizable character , not as recodnizable as ziggy but still recodnizable. Also if david bowie aka a person who was a man involved with groupies, and drugs and sexuality is easier to digest than an emo person I mean come on.

    • @jeromedixon6929
      @jeromedixon6929 6 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      Dan Bing The sampling on that album is just as inventive as his other beats, if not more inventive, because of the lack of equipment he had. You can’t say a song like Don’t cry or Workinonit aren’t impressive as hell. Many of the songs didn’t even have added drum beats.
      Also, not only is the beat work on here fantastic, but you also have the album concept that puts the album in a completely new light. Whether he intended it or not he made a concept album where he reflects on his death without saying a single word, instead opting for vocal samples. In that context, it makes the album a lot more emotionally resonant than it could have been, and makes for some incredibly powerful moments. That, I personally think, edges this above his production on something like the Fantastic vol. 2, or the Shining.

    As a super NIN/Trent Reznor fan, I can tell you that comment clearly came from a NIN fanboy, who vicariously wants to see Trent live up to that status, simply due to knowing how heavily Bowie influenced his work through out the years. While I wish it weren't the case, I believe you are absolutely right about his influence not reaching the same extent as Bowie's does and will continue to do so.

    Also I didn't actually know that the world knew about the Donouts album haha. I got it when it first came out and I thought it was wicked. But every time I mentioned it I found myself being the only one who knew. To be fair, most of my people aren't into my genre (HipHop) and/or aren't music nuts so... But anyways, I'm glad I want the only one who saw the genius in the point of the album and how significant it was. Thanks for sharing that one!

      I would say that there are plenty of men within hip hop that also don’t have much talent, yet are still famous. So I’d be more inclined to say that the aspect of these people such as their branding and song writing, that perhaps we don’t understand is their reason for fame. There are so many untalented artists that are famous that i doubt its as simple as simply whether they are man or woman.

      @Billboardguy1 you make valid points. ashanti isn't the strongest example of what i was trying to relay since she hasn't been relevant in a long time. i think my opinion is that i appreciate artists with REAL talent. alicia keys is a stronger example, (or Rhapsody from the rap viewpoint). and yes, i have negative bias against cardi because that "stripper turned rapper" thing doesn't do it for me. also when she was on IG Live talking about how good she pleases her man , and claiming she would win a d*ck sucking contest. Like, no one wants to her that. i can't separate a person from their music and vice versa. she's lasted longer the the standard 15mins of fame; i give her "1hour30mins" of fame before she hits that ceiling and fizzles out.

    Donuts has dozens of sampled vocals that could be referencing death and his fear of it. For example one line "It's dat real!", he chops it in such a way that you hear "Is death real?" in the track Stop. I don't believe it's just a beat tape.

    I agree with the Donuts opinion so much. Looking at Dilla's legendary status, I first heard Donuts, which was quite uninteresting tbh. Digging deeper, I finally found the music that people look towards while hailing him a genius - his work with Slum Village, Common, ATCQ et al. I guess the opinion on Donuts is biased because of the sentiments attached to it. I just cannot relate to that sentiment.
