  • Todays Famous Grave visit is Louis Mountbatten, who was assassinated in 1979.
Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (25 June 1900 - 27 August 1979) was a British naval officer, colonial administrator and close relative of the British royal family. Mountbatten, who was of German descent, was born in the United Kingdom to the prominent Battenberg family and was a maternal uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and a second cousin of King George VI.

What a sad ,bitter, small minded comment.
The Royals have met thousands of people in "show-biz" how is it their fault if some of these "stars" turn out to be bad apples?
Savile duped everybody: Only his death revealed his sick history. Savile & Harris will not be the last to be exposed.

Thank you Paul, another very interesting history. Historically he was actually regarded as a very poor Naval Officer and many of his tactics were flawed and severely criticised by his peer Officers. It is believed he was sent away as Viceroy of India to get him out of the way ! I believe he had a troubled married life. I have been to Romsey but never visited the Abbey yet, but I will. I fly fish on the River Test, just up the road. It is a most beautiful part of England and every time I go fishing down there it is like a time warp back to the 1950’s !

    • @geoffpoole483
      @geoffpoole483 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Mountbatten had a long and somewhat checkered career. Overseeing India's transition to independence was a poisoned chalice. His wife had frequent affairs with other men. I think he wanted one of his daughters to marry Prince Charles. I've fished the Test at Wherwell. You are very fortunate to live in the vicinity of such a beaautiful river.

There's something about old churches that make me feel at peace.
    It's the calm I think.
Granted, I haven't been inside of one for awhile now due to being crippled up at this stage in my life that it's getting very difficult for me to get around.
I'm not really a religious person to begin with, but one can't help but admire the craftsmanship that went into building them.
    Thanks Paul.
Oh, by the way...WHERE'S THE SNOW THERE!?!!!
    You lucky bugger.
Here I am still cursing the snow we have in Saskatchewan Canada. Can't wait for spring so all of this will melt.
    Cheers man.

I love our history, that was great a tour from Alan. My Grandfather was a Marine in ww2 he was sent to Burma . Grandad was crossing a river with his fellow troops. Grandad was bitten by a snake. His fellow troops pulled Grandad out of the water. A fellow Marine took the Bayonet off his gun and cut the poison out of of my Grandads leg. They wrapped his leg in what they had and carried on. My Grandad would never speak of ww2. He only told me what happened to him and showed me his leg.. I was a child and his leg looked liked it hurt. I hugged him. All soldiers. I salute you

Almost 100% sure we should be visiting in September. Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland of course, a quick run to Paris to see Jim Morrison's grave. Mostly we are going to retrace our ancestry. Hi Paul, you should do Billy Fiske’s grave in Boxgrove priory ( just outside Chichester ) A very interesting story and the newer Priory has some beautiful stain glass windows dictated to him.

    Hi Paul,
    Thank you.
I'm constantly amazed at the age of buildings in England, Australia is 234 years approx when the first fleet arrived.
So our oldest buildings are nowhere near, those in England, you can stay in a 400 year old Inn, fantastic.
    Certainly one huge Abbey.
    Great posts

Excellent video - very interesting and informative. I know that he is still a very divisive figure - being a war hero but also clouded in serious allegations of abuse against others (I'll leave that one there). Thanks as ever Paul!

@@outlander_... I don't consider him a hero. I was referring to what many others think of him and don't want to acknowledge the many awful allegations of abuse against him.
