Unfortunately in France, if an elevator/lift has a fault of any kind, it's a most likely an sign-off should it be more than 5 years old at best, I've seen a Gen2 that was roughly 3 years old being gutted out and replaced with a EcoDisc just because the Gen2 had a faulty car indicator... What a waste of time and money.

It suffered the same failure as the first one: the floor indicator kept displaying garbage (garbled numbers), and of course it got the same treatment as the first one: rip out and replace... Shame about that new GeN2 MR. I always like these Schindler "S-Series" lifts because of how interesting and unique the fixtures are but unfortunately they are quite rare nowadays. And I recently found a similar Schindler lift like this one (although much smaller and simple) in Malta but with the blue colored fixtures version. Also why are there extra floor buttons above the regular floor buttons?
That old Schindler looks ill, it's in bad nick on the inside too. They probably could have repaired it, but knowing Schindler it's out of warrenty and Schindler is notorious for not supporting their legacy equipment. To them it's obsolete. Sadly lift companies are increasingly getting the same attitude as consumer electronics companies.
It's been this way for the last 10-15 years or longer, appliances and consumer electronics are "just disposable" Very sad not like the old day when things could be fixed. And when companies maintained a supply of parts and support.
I do also love those early animated floor indicators in the halls on those lifts. There used to be a couple just near from me, and I enjoyed just watching the two lifts racing up and down in the shopping mall answering calls and watching the numbers scroll up, and down and then the arrow flash up or down when it arrived at the floor I was on. Not there anymore - it got modernized with LCD displays about 5 years ago

Well the new machine is certainly not an MRL installation, yes gear-less traction with flat belts. With the angle of the machine on the machine beams, and the anchored hoist belts at each end, I bet this is a 2:1 with a single compensating sheave top of the cab (or possibly two at each side of the cab) and on the counterweight. I saw the other machine is a geared traction.

I'd be interested to see other comments regarding this. I stand corrected if I'm wrong saying it was a 90s lift, but I remember this period. Early 80s was the introduction of computerised systems using I/O boards (no dedicated controller yet). Mid 80s was the LED matrix displays. I dont remember this model of lift until at least the 90s but I could but wrong but I'm sure I'm not lol (if that makes any sense!)

It had the scrolling number display in the car that this one doesn't seem to have, but otherwise the style was the same. The building was built in 1992 if I remember correctly.So maybe Schindler sold this type of lift for a few years in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The building owners will be very happy with their new gen2's until… something or someone breaks saftey and an service technician has to come to "fix" the lifts...
@@philipssecurityates4931 Otis Gen2's don't accept calls anymore when the safety is broken. To reset it you just have to go to the logic cabinet and turn a switch.
It really is a shame these are getting replaced.. they aren't even that old? I feel old, but the 90's weren't that long ago (ok 20 years), but I know of a ton of late 90's elevators that aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Well I'd say early 2000s for these.... Man, my hometown have a few Sortex STEPMODUL green (aka "French Thyssen fixtures") that are nearing 30 years old and are still going strong, usually modernization happens when the elevator/lift is more than 10 years old...
I know of an Otis Winding Drum installed in 1914 in the PNW located in an historic mansion (open to the public museum) Still working up/down. They offer tours behind the scenes, where visitors get a look at the machine room.
You should like our work elevators. I think they might be from like beginning of 1960s. And, well... they work. Most of the time. Then some HLR and then it works, and so on. Nobody seems to be willing to do some proper renovation or something like that. A lot of colleagues has been stuck during the years. =)
There’s actually two large lifts that are the same model as that one in Forest Hill Shopping Centre in Melbourne that were installed in 1988-87 when the centre first opened but the centre opened in 1988 so they possibly were installed up to a year earlier! However those lifts have LED grids on the displays outside the lifts that show what floor the lift is on and have arrows that are animated up or down! So those lifts were probably introduced in the mid to late 80s but were also common in the early 90s! However the strange thing about the lifts in the shopping centre is that they have early 90s/late 80s circular Dewherst buttons instead of Schindler’s buttons so it’s possible that they are original or were replaced at some point more recently! :)

mrmattandmrchay Well probably the main reason for it would be aesthetics especially if it makes the lift work better with the architecture of the structure it’s in! Like for example the lifts in Melbourne Central underground station in the Melbourne CBD that were installed just before the station opened in 1981 originally had 70s dewherst buttons with custom stainless steel face plates on the exterior call buttons and the plates were rectangular with circular ends so they were pretty much a part of the station’s futuristic architecture style! They can pretty much be seen here and they originally had custom messages engraved into the stainless steel above the doors for the floor indicator but it was replaced in 1991 along with the interior call buttons panel when the shopping centre above was opened! However the lift was more recently modernised in mid 2019 but what’s funny is they seem to have kept the original motor and logic but just replaced all of the buttons and updated the voice and cab interior on it!
