Hi, I really enjoyed this video! I’m with you on Instagram; I really dislike it. I’ve been part of the TH-cam tarot community since 2013 as a viewer on my personal account, but I finally started a TH-cam channel this year to share tarot, have some fun, and connect with others. Life can be so stressful, and finding people who love tarot has been such a great escape from all the obligations.
Nooooo not the tumblr. 😂😂😂 I’ve never successfully found any decent tarot “content” on the hellsite. I’d be interested to know if you have any good discord recs though. I’ve been skulking around tarot instagram and tarot tube for about six years now under various guises and I still don’t know how anyone makes any genuine connections in the “community”. Your Patreon rant reminded of how enraged I felt (Sagittarius here!) when people in the freaking planner community started putting their content behind that paywall…like I was going to pay people to show me how they decorate a planner. 😂 The internet is wild.
I still have Facebook but I'm rarely on anymore, to much Drama ! I stick to TH-cam. I watch who I like and I don't have to see or hear any 🐂💩.In the end, you do you, just get rid of what no longer makes you happy.. There are scammers everywhere. Every social site, phones, mail, email ,etc. I don' t mess with any of them. True happiness is being yourself !
I left instagram years ago as it doesn’t fulfill any purpose for me. I’m not on TikTok either but it will go the same way. It’s still relatively new and has a novelty factor just now

The only glue that has held any sense of community together for me is in my Instagram DMs. There are people I’ve been talking to anywhere from 2-8 years. Those people are the only reason I still have an IG account. There are a handful of Tarot accounts and YT channels I watch regularly and chat with those people/leave comments on their stuff, but otherwise it’s all dead to me.
I only know about the Tarot and Witchcraft community on TH-cam, but I think we still have weirdos. It's just they're like Odinists and stuff now and we (hopefully) shun them. A lot of old hippies seem to have vanished. I do have a question though ... what kind of weirdos do you miss having access to?
BlueSky is supposedly great, but 2 minutes after I joined and followed someone on there, they had liked or recommended a meme with James Baldwin saying something serious that's particularly relevant today. And 25% of the comments below the meme were very bad, like 1930's Jim Crow bad, and they didn't get deleted. So I'm very leary of BlueSky too, because bigots ain't cool.
Have you tried rednote? It's been driven to #1 downloaded app recently, by Americans to spite the government. They love it. Very strict rules on all that, too.
I use Instagram as my own personal tarot journal, most of the time. And I have connected with amazing people on there, as well as YT. So that’s what I focus on and don’t engage in any other way. Whoever I hired is doing an awful fucking job 😂

One of the worst things you can wish upon a person (in the mundane hex sense) is that their niche hobby becomes mainstream: it gets flooded with trend tourists who don't care enough to learn anything beyond the bare basics and complain loudly if anyone tries to bring up advanced topics in the main group, and especially as a sidebar, as "gatekeeping". Material prices shoot through the roof, quality often declines due to feedback from beginners that frankly don't have enough experience to understand why it is the way it is and most will just throw the stuff away in a few months/years anyway when they move on to something else, rinse and repeat. Then there's the flood of opportunists who see dollar signs in the form of selling classes (made up from the most basic free information), kits, and "secrets to success" that destroy trust overnight that took years to build. Those that do know anything about the thing and have been established for a long time, get drowned out or choose to continue in private in favor of those that sound knowledgeable at first glance, but on further inspection, are just 95% hot air. Nuance? Haven't heard of her. Practice? That's not glamorous. Mastery? Nobody has time for that. Standards? Nope, might hurt someone's feelings.

Communities in general seem to have the usual cast of characters, the I’m so holy one, the how can I capitalize on this one, the I know more than everybody else one, the you’re doing it all wrong one, etc. People sharing their experiences and seeking others who really care about the topic are around, they just make less noise.Last year I did a reading in a coffee shop for another tarot reader. They got all excited and realized I knew a bit more than they did. I am not an expert or scholar of anything. I’m lucky if my shoes match! They then went on a rant about plastering ourselves all over social media….as a team of course.I shook my head no. “ But we can be famous, rich! I just knew that I had to put an end to this crazy. So I asked them, do you remember the first rule of Fight Club? They got a very sour look on their face. Yes, don’t talk Fight Club. Geez!
Access to weirdo’s 🤣 I hear you, it was good to watch this through… being self-employed and promoting and finding that balance and I don’t know, I don’t even give a shit. I haven’t tag stuff since like forever, it’s like if customers find me, may the gods be in my favor vibes, it’s just the right people seem to connect, luckily with not too much effort on my part. I would like to make more of a living without having to work so hard🙄 I started on insta 10 years ago. But also the bulk of my work is my Client studio and locals so anything that I sell online is just extra. I never watched TH-cam other than for music, but my sweetheart did and he tragically and suddenly died and I was left trying to navigate all of our media shit and I was just like deep in the underworld staring at the space nonstop and I was like wait there’s a bunch of tarot and witchy stuff on his account and so I started watching and really TH-cam is where I most rather be. I feel like it’s school, lol
It's standard for "influencers" of a certain size to have staff, but the fact that most people are on social media trying to be influencers or have a business rather than create community is... ugh.
