Beautiful lookin camera. I just bought a sonar sx-70 and I’m super new to instant film but I’m a hobby hopper so I’m excited to see what instant film has to offer..my only camera I’ve shot is a Polaroid go so it’s a big jump for me😭
Thanks for a review Chris. I love my slr680 but as you noted, it's worth considering a cheaper polaroid camera first. Just to get to know how it works and what to look for since it's an old camera and getting a dud would be a really expensive buying mistake.
Another Polaroid camera that I think is a pretty good starting point despite using SX-70 film are the original OneStep Box type cameras from the late 70's. I think those cameras tend to be overlooked due to the fact that they exist in between two of the more popular original SX-70 cameras and the 600 series box cameras. Plus I think the fact that there's the OneStep 2 and OneStep+ doesn't help that out much.
I suffered for a month. The 680 is already at Dennis, a Polaroid SX-70 sonar and SLR 680 were purchased in the outlet of fotohandel Delfshaven for 150 euros.
I have to admit. Your thumnails look goofy and I thought your videos would be Al clickbaity. But I was at the airport and saw your airport X-ray video…. Ya… presently surprised! I love your videos! Good info, great personality, good jokes. Not fast and flashy. I like it!
I watched the video tour of Ben F. in the Polaroid factory. They basically said that the chemistry for all the films is the same, the SX-70 just has a built-in ND filter.
Just bought a mint condition SLR-680 with 435 USD today, cant wait to film with it. Saw another white SX-70 model 2 with LV leather on the website too, feel like getting that as well. 😂
I managed to buy an SLR680 (in fully working order and with a leather case) for £80 about 10 years ago. Whilst I do like it a lot, I do feel it is a bit too big and fragile to carry around as an ‘everyday’ camera. Subsequently I had two of my SX-70 Alpha 1s upgraded by MiNT into the SLR670S and SLR670X (cheaper than buying one directly). The S became my ‘go to’ camera due to its more compact size, more robustness and more accurate metering. That said, I would never sell any of them - they’re all keepers. How do you rate the SLR680 against the SLR670S/X?
I got a 680 shortly after finding out it existed and three years on I still think it's one of the most interesting camera's I've ever had. I was wondering though: Would getting a film shield/frog tongue still be a benefit nowadays? I normally take out and hide the film from light as quickly as possible but the first couple of seconds can be crucial.
I mean if you want to you can get a Frog tongue because they literally cost nothing and very good for protecting photos but as long as you’re quick enough with your hand you should be fine!
I absolutely love this camera. I bought one in 2011. Impossible film was pretty inconsistent and colors were weird. I am so glad I didn't eBay it now that the film is great. You think it would be smart to pick up a 600se incase peel apart returns?
@@JustAnotherChris Thanks for the reply! :) But it Turns out the it was a Polaroid Image System With 125mm With SLR680+ f10 lense. My bad, I guess I'm better off with the one step 2 for the price difference, Slr680 are like 500$
Hey chris love the vid! Been subbed for awhile and just got my hands on a 2nd hand sx 70 that has some issues ejecting film, would u recommend sending my sx 70 to Retrospekt for a full refurbish? or do u have better recommendations based on your own personal experience?
Well if you send them and it’s a simple fix your drill going to pay the base price to repair if that makes sense. Now when you say it’s having issues ejecting. What’s going on exactly?
i am embarrassed to say how much i paid for my slr680. i was able to talk the seller down but more people were interested and offered more than me, so i just paid the asking price. it work okish. but it definitely could use a good pick me up. i know retrospekt can replace the flash/sonar housing. so no more cracks :)
Yeah but last time I checked it would cost like $300 for them to fix it. They just do a flat rate price for repairs regardless of what’s wrong with it.
I just paid 60 bucks for mine and it came with the box with everything it would have day 1 besides the strap. Also mines the slr 680 se and the only damage to it is on the skin thing
second comment: you should look at the yt channel called "company man" and watch some of his "rise and fall " videos. for the video you want to do about polaroid, i think would be cool if you did it in a similar way. or maybe he can just give some good ideas.
just got one at a garage sale for 15 bucks, works and everything! this thing is sick, can’t wait to use it for a ton of photos to come
Didn't know about that tilting flash thing! Crazy camera!
Right!?! It's so cool!

Now that’s high praise! Glad you finally clicked and enjoyed!

can't go wrong with that!
It must have been a nice surprise to find that cash in the camera!
I am 80 and found my old Polaroid 680. It needs some help and was wondering if a there is a USA doing reconditioning.
nice and thorough, thank youuuuuuuu ❤
Damn. I now have a new goal to save up for. I’m officially in love and crushing hard on this camera!!
Well save that dough!!
I bet that was the best camera at the time! It’s just kinda huge. Great camera though! 👍
It is huge. That’s one of the reasons why I call it the BEAST!
Chris! Waiting for NONS cameras reviews!
Might have to wait a while for that one 😅

Hi Chris
Can you name your three favorite
Square instant cameras
Not 3 but I would say lomo square and the SQ6
Amazing video!!
Thank you! Did you have any take aways from it?
i sold one for 100 bucks shipped last week didn't realize it worth much more 😢
Dang!! That’s a bummer
Great video!
Thank you! Did you happen to have any take aways from the video?
@@JustAnotherChris yeah, I took away that I need another camera that's outta my price range 🤑
I found a Slr680 for like 50$ (good condition from a friend) Would I still be better off with a One step 2 for like 100$ to start with? $CAD
I wouldn’t pass up that deal!

@@JustAnotherChris well it fails to eject the black film on new packs and the motor sounds like its about to give up
I think back in the day, the day SX70 was more saturated and less cold than 600 ... now I believe that 600 is better!!!
Very true!

Hi Chris, just wait til you get to meet my mom, you will find out what real cameras look like. Just kidding. I love your reviews by the way.🤭
Just found one today for 12 dollars! Slr 680 se
And it works !!🎉
