The choice of this song for that occasion is a bit ironic. Yes, 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' was one of George Harrison's beautiful contributions to the Beatles catalog. But on the original recording (1968) the guitar solo was played by a not too shabby guest guitarist: Eric Clapton. In case you're not familiar with Clapton: somebody spray painted 'Clapton is God' on a London wall in 1960. This person wasn't wrong and the phrase quite rightfully so earned a spot in music history.
We always have to educare you all on this video. Its not a Prince show and Prince knows this. If he had the attitude the young have, he would have fumbled. But because he understood why he was there and everyone on stage highly respected him, they just passed the ball to him and he took it home. He understood his assignment. If you want to just gush over prince, do " purple rain."
Other great Prince performances: Prince at the 2007 Super Bowl. Prince naacp image award 2005. Prince 1985 American music awards purple rain. Prince 2004 musicology tour Detroit performing “DMSR”
Prince was snubbed for the billboard top 100 guitar players earlier that year….. this was his revenge because he knew the people from billboard would be in the audience. Such a legend.
This is the evening Prince and George Harrison (posthumously) were inducted into the RRHF. Prince is the greatest performer I've ever seen and I've been lucky enough to see most of the greats
In terms of superstar colaboration, i suggest My Back Pages perfomed by Roger McGuinn, Dylan, Clapton, Niel Young etc. Especially, Clapton's the guitar solo is amazing.
If you enjoy connecting guitarists, please check out david gilmour of the one and only pink floyd. Any song from The pulse 1994 concert. Shine on you crazy diamind is a particular great
I actually prefer the version that has not been remastered - just something about the original that sounds better - just personal preference. This was an amazing performance by all and of course Prince blows them out of the water. Jeff Lynne is also an amazing producer and worked with a lot of great artists - and he was also with the Travelling Wilburies - co founded a real super group! You need to check out the live version of Telephone Line live at Wembley - Jeff Lynne's ELO th-cam.com/video/XKElk9zTB04/w-d-xo.html
Such a tremendous performance by Prince. But nobody ever comments on the performance of Marc Mann, who played the bulk of the lead guitar throughout. Just saying.
Oh my dear, I know you’re just getting started reacting to music, but please don’t stop during solos. Even though it may be extraordinary and you can’t wait to comment, please hold on until the end of the solo. Believe me you will get a lot of negative comments otherwise. These performers were old friends of George, Jeff Lynne is his son Dhani’s godfather. Jeff and Tim were in the Traveling Wilbury’s with George and Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. Prince was also being inducted into the RRHOF that night. You might want to check out ELO’s Wembley or Bust live concert and anything by Steve Winwood, either when he was with Spencer Davis, Traffic or any of his solo work. Here’s a “who’s who” that performed this tribute; * Tom Petty - 3 Grammys and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; (playing twelve string acoustic)and from his band the Heartbreakers’ Scott Thurston (playing bass) and drummer Steve Ferrone. * Jeff Lynne - 1 Grammy and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (playing electric guitar with hat, beard and curly hair) and from his band ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) and Marc Mann (plays first solo) guitarist for ELO. * Stevie Winwood - 2 Grammys and member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (playing organ) was part of The Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic and solo career and Jim Capaldi (from Traffic with Winwood) on percussion (tambourine). * Billy Preston - 2 Grammys and in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; (on piano) played keyboards for the Beatles and had a solo career. * Dhani Harrison (George’s son) - 1 Grammy; (playing six string acoustic), young man standing next to Tom Petty. * Prince - 7 Grammys (playing electric guitar) who was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that year. Note that the Grammy mentions are wins, it doesn’t count the numerous nominations they received. Also Petty and Lynne were part of the Traveling Wilbury’s along with George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. Harrison, Petty, Lynne, Winwood and Preston are also song writers and producers.
Dont cut off the solos. Why? Our music takes you on a journey and the solos are the part where the musucians invite you in to have your own experiebce while you are collectively joining in with who ever is listening at the time , as well as, all those who have heard it before. Cant sub yet.
Prince played guitars, keyboards, drums and bass. That's it. He did not EVER play any other instruments on his records or live. It's a complete myth that he could play more. Nor did he need to. * No, you CANNOT be born with god-given talent. Not one guitarist was ever born able to play guitar, not to mention the FACT that humans created the gods, and not the other way around. It is VERY disrespectful to suggest that a mythical deity is responsible for the talent that someone developed. * The instruments of pop/rock music are guitars, basses, keyboards and drums. Prince played them all and whenever he needed strings (violins, violas, cellos), he usually tasked Claire Fischer. When needed wind instruments, he hired Eric Leeds or others who could actually play them. He could not play them.
If you want to see guitar greatness you need to watch Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption" guitar solo from his band's 'Without a net' tour in 1986. He will leave you speechless!!!
Actually , he didn't know the song until the promoter sent it to him a few days before the show. He didn't really rehearse with the band. He told them not to worry about it , he had it covered. You can tell by the way he's following along until it's his turn.
@JamesBrendon-h4r Who said he wasn't prepared ??? He NEVER REALLY practiced with the group. In fact he was gonna do the first solo but the guitar player took it in rehearsal. That's when he left and told them not to worry. You can see on Dhani Harrison's face , when Prince layed out , he was seeing it for the first time.
Absolutely mind blowing, thank you 🙏🐊❤️🦉👍
Jeff Lynne has been in a few super groups of great musicians.
The spearhead of TTW
Prince was such an underrated guitarist and he was amazing!!!
No he wasn't. He was underrated as a guitarist by the music industry. They brought him on to show them up.
Prince was never underrated by his peers - they recognised his talent
The man behind Tom Petty is George Harrison 's son Dahni. Prince just blew me away!❤❤
🇨🇦 Do not lose sight of the original played by George and Eric Clapton ! 🇨🇦

If you've not already seen it, Prince's version of "Motherless Child" is worth checking out.
You should watch Prince’s. ‘Shhhhhhh’ (Musicology tour 2004). Another terrific guitar solo and it features an amazing drummer-John Blackwell.
Pausing during the guitar solo is a no go.

U can tell Prince played this before

No. He tried to rehearse but winwood was bothering him. So Prince just showed up that night. Told them, " he'd be ready," and he was.
@@JamesBrendon-h4r sooo , that means he didn't really rehearse ... like I said.
What???????every true musician rehearse and would never go on stage unprepared. Prince was a professional.
