A beautiful and underrated watch. The Overseas Automatics often get lost in the shuffle amidst the more common chronographs and dual-times, but the simplicity and capability of the auto makes it a viable alternative to many popular sports models. Pre-owned, this ref. 47040 can be considered a rival to everything from a Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167 to a Rolex Submariner. Thin, comfortable, water resistant to 150-meters, and beautifully finished, the Overseas Automatic also presents a formidable challenger to the longest-tenured member of the ultra-luxe sports watch segment, the AP Royal Oak. And the Overseas' 15ATM rating throws shade on the Royal Oak 15400 and 15202's 50-meters water resistance.
Best,
Tim
This watch is an absolute steal on the second hand market.
1:22, “...you’re gonna be missing most of your wrist by that point...” well said, lololol!
Exactly! Crown guards mostly just get in the way of using the crown and occasionally dig into our wrists. I've never seen a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage (no crown guards) suffer crown or stem tube damage that wouldn't occur on a conventional SuperOcean (crown guards), and I've seen HUNDREDS of both!
Best,
Tim
Would this fit on a 6 inch wrist? Or would the strap not go that small?
folks dont over pay for a patek Philippe...for under 10 this is the real thing
Am I right in thinking you prefer this to the new Vacheron Overseas automatic 4500?
Yes. But after careful consideration and firsthand experience, I've come to prefer the 5500 Gen-III chronograph to the 49150 Gen-II. With the unique brown dial or the new inverse panda dial, I'm sold on the higher overall quality, technical capability, and added value of the newer chronograph even if I find the older grande date dial better balanced.
Best,
Tim
I think the numbers are 18k white gold
Is that right?
Did it include a second strap when bought? A gray, leather one?
A tip, show more the clock on the wrist
