I am so very grateful that you posted this video, your voices were in my head when I when to the gas station today. I was pulling away from the pump and about to make a somewhat sharp turn and just as I was about to turn this video popped into my head and I looked back and sure enough I would have hit the post and possibly even the pump if I would have turned then. You saved me from making this mistake. Thank you so very much! I'm so sorry you experienced this but so glad you shared your experience.

To see this candid reaction to the accident is incredible. I’d also like to say that the reaction you guys had is something I strive for in my relationship with my wife. No blaming. No screaming. Just two people upset at the situation. Not each other. Just amazing stuff. Anyone that’s been angry at their significant other for something they did on accident, knows how important this is. No one wants to do that. They just react. Thank you so much for this.

My first job as a truck driver I had safety director that gave me probably the best driving advice I've ever heard: Never get in a hurry to fall. It didn't hit home until I hit something and he asked me what happened. I thought for a second and said "well, I got in a hurry." You are absolutely right. When you are in a hurry to eat, in a hurry to get to bed, or for any other reason, you will make mistakes. Most of the time the best thing you can do is just slow down or stop.

I drive 18 wheelers for a living, and getting a CDL A license and then completing training takes several months before a driver should go on the road as a Solo driver. The reason for this is of course driving a rig that weighs 80,000lbs and is 75 feet long and 13' 6' high requires a lot of training to drive safely. I feel that anyone that is allowed to purchase a tow behind camper trailer should be required to undergo a training course, and then be required to get some sort of endorsement on their license. Inexperience is dangerous and costly. Sorry for my thoughts, but I see way to many inexperienced people driving these tow behind trailers on the road, and many are pretty bad and unsafe at it

Sorry about that one guys. I'm 66yrs old. I have to do a triple take before pulling out of my driveway. It sucks! If I use a saw or angle grinder, I have to stop myself for a second and think"am I being safe?" It is part of life we must deal with now. Don't allow it to stop you from having a great retirement. You are two lovely people . Just keep rolling with it man!

I understand how this can make you feel. Just remember - no one got hurt! Keep your heads up! I know you two have been considering changing your RV. Depending on what your insurance company and you settle for, this may be an opportunity to for you to rent some of the ones you have been considering for a week or so at a time to test them out. In the end, whatever you choose, please also consider adding several observation cameras! We just got a larger camper and one of the first things I did was add 2 side view and one rear facing camera (Haloview brand). Life is a gift :)

I always say, laughter is the best medicine. One of my favorite old movies is with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz called the Long Long Trailer. Taking a long cross country trip in their bran new trailer and just after their wedding, they had to learn on the go how to handle their big rig and learn to get along together while doing it all. If you like Lucy and Desi you'll love seeing this. You'll laugh your problems away.

Tired and hungry, two things to avoid while traveling. After returning from a 2 week trip, washed both the coach and the truck in the heat. Very little water and also hungry, we were beat to say the least. Drove to the storage place and I drove over a curb which I never do because I really watch my mirrors but I was tired, hungry, cut the corner too short, bounced the left side of the coach. Parked and went inside to find the microwave glass turntable jumped out and shattered. The TV was way out from it’s parked position and TV drawer opened all the way. Lesson learned, tired and hungry is a recipe for bad things to happen. Thank you both for posting this very important video!

Just saw your video my wife and I did the same thing with our brand new 344GK. We picked it up in the morning and drove to our very first park. Pulling into the site took the turn to wide and did the same thing to the back end of our trailer. Did not even know that I had done it until I got out of the truck and saw the scrape along the back end of the trailer. When I saw this I thought it was done at a gas station when we had gone in to eat in the parking lot. I had then realized I had cut the end of the trailer on a tree when making the turn into the site. After a $7000 insurance claim it was fixed lesson learned. My wife and I are still together thank you for sharing this this is the first time I have ever shared this information. And I know the situation this happened to more than just you and me. I drive an 18 wheeler, and thank God I never had an accident that was my fault, and I pray everyday so that day never comes, but one thing that has helped me is everytime before I release the brakes I take a deep breath and look around check my mirror and try to make the widest turns possible, even when I know I'm clear to turn I still give my self the extra space and go the extra mile to make wider turns also before you back up or try to drive through a tight spot picture what your trailer and truck will do before it dose it. Mistakes happen, we are humans, but sometimes when mistakes happen over and over you just need to understand your just not ment to do/drive whatever you do/drive. Anyway best of luck, stay safe.

I wrecked our 5th wheel the day I picked it up June 6th. We've been waiting for parts ever since. Now my husband is afraid to let me tow it again until I get lessons. He already refused to tow it from the beginning. I haven't found anyone willing to teach me. We put all of our money into the truck and 5th wheel to make a dream come true, and it looks like we won't be going anywhere but the local RV park until spring. It will probably be sold then. We were really close this time. Maybe third time in the future. 😉

Oh no. We are going to do a video later this week about RV school and lots of details about that. If you haven't already, subscribe and ring the bell so you'll get a notification when it comes out. Big hugs to you and so sorry.

This is called tail swing by truck drivers. It involves the portion of your trailer behind the axles. When you turn sharp, the trailer pivots on the axles causing the rear of the trailer to move in the opposite direction of the turn. The greater the distance between the axles and the rear of the trailer, and the sharper the turn, the greater the effect of tail swing becomes. RV manufacturers move axles forward to allow trailers to make tighter turns. Trailer swing is especially problematic when your trailer is near an object on the side opposite the turn. The closer you are to an object, the more slowly you have to turn away from it to prevent a trailer swing accident. This usually happens to semi drivers when they need to make a U turn in a warehouse parking area, and they have their trailer axles in the fully forward position. I hope this helps you understand why this type of accident occurs. Try to plan your exit from service islands and avoid a sharp turn when your trailer is close to obstructions

I love your honesty , I drove from Brighton uk to Lagos Portugal in my motorhome , my ferry was at 3am so I slept only one hour . Anyway fell asleep at the steering wheel doing 73 miles an hour woke up with a Big Bang after hitting the Central reservation and threw me back on the road , luckily I was on a motorway, 66 and still making mistakes, but I won’t be doing that one again , no sleep no drive 🇬🇧❤️

Did similar while towing a sailboat...the cement post in front of the pumps drew a 5" gas in the side of my boat. It was below the waterline so we sailed it but the sound of the scrape is locked in memory. My condolences and glad to see you pushed thru to the bright side of such incidents. With no person's hurt, you CAN laugh after a few days.

As a new travel trailer owner I appreciate that you put this out for everyone to see. Your points of am I tired, hungry, stressed are good reminders. And to remember tail swing is also an important part of trailer life. Thanks.

First, you are not a bonehead. I feel like I'm looking at myself. Just yesterday, we got lost ( GPS got us there), we come to a dead end road,,,,, I was tired, hungry, and stressed. Trying to find a Harvest Host location, in the bayou in La. Watching your video was sooo right on, Thank You. Hang in there, I hope things turn out better for you guys. Ps,,,, you may have saved our marriage

Thanks so much for your kind words Jamie. Funny that you should mention the GPS issue, Liz and I have been having that very discussion of late. Google Maps has been all kinds of wrong lately and it's only sheer luck that we haven't had the 5th wheel in tow when it's happened. We've been looking into getting a Garmin or something like it to replace the on-line stuff.
I'm also happy to hear that in some small way we helped prevent a potential catastrophe in your marriage. P.

A difficult situation. You handled it together with dignity and teamwork. It is amazing the good people who notice and are able and willing to help in these situations. To be honest, I probably would've done something like this my first week. I recently injured my leg trying to do too much on same day. Now I have to make new rules for myself like your good rules. The more I watch these videos, I realize how challenging this RV life can be. Glad you were able to work through it together and figure out next steps. Thank you for being open and good work helping people to be aware that can improve safety for the community.

I watched this just to get my heart in my throat. Living full-time on the road, need the constant reminder to slow down, run the checklist and keep ‘remembering’ to check twice, cut once. Thanks for the lesson/reminder. Hope insurance goes smooth!!!

Everyone is ok. No permanent damage. And Six-months from now, this will just a minor set-back or bump in the road. A year+ from now it will be a good story to tell and share with other campers so they can learn from your lesson.
