my headcanon is that Swamp thing is fine with plants being used and consumed as they would in normal cycles of nature, but once major disruptors like pollution or deforestation come around, so does Swamp Thing
This is the comic canon, in a nutshell. The Green acknowledges it's place and role in the cycle of life in th DC Universe, and it accepts a certain amount of consumption in the interest 9f balance. It is only when things get seriously out of balance that it sends Swamp Thing to handle it.

Canonically Swamp Thing realizes that animal life is necessary for the life of plants. This is why he’s not constantly attacking humans. The normal processes of life are no big deal but when you’re doing egregious polluting or deforestation then Swamp Thing will intervene.

i am probably misinformed a bit but wouldn't it be part of the red. isn't fermentation caused by bacteria emitting gases? and said bacteria would be a living organism
@@unheardstingray7048 Fermentation in this case is yeast eating sugar and taking in oxygen to produce ethanol and carbon dioxide.
I didn't know there was a Grey. I thought fermenters would be part of the black.

It was mentioned that mushrooms fall under the purview of the green, and since mushrooms are decomposers, they would fall under the Rot's (or Gray, I think) purview.

They are part of the Grey, I believe it was clarified at one point that They Are not part of the Green.
Earth based life wise, if its a different Kingdom of Life its a different colour typically.
Swamp thing is a Avatar of the Green the power of the avatar of a kingdom is proportional to the commonality of their kingdoms life around them that they can draw upon.
Animal Man (Buddy Baker) is the Avatar of the Red (Animal Life) and is drastically less powerful.
As far as Im aware The Red has also Disowned Humanity though.
I love Swampthing because he's a one of my favorite examples of DC writers making something which at the time was simple and basic, but because he's always been a backround character nobody thought to give him limits when they rebooted or changed things so now he's basically just the Unfukwittable Green Giant LOL
Beast boy is connected to a thing called which represents all animal life. He can also turn into viruses as well as his powers aren't limited to strictly animals. He could essentially enact a real plague inc scenario and wipe out humanity if he felt like it.

A problem with dc and marvel stuff about climate change and pollution is that they live in a world with super technology that could solve most of these problems but would ruin the super heroes. Like having iron man replace all power plants with arc reactors or alien enhanced nuclear power plants. But they never use this new tech to solve these issues
That is one of my biggest issues with any-kind of superhero stories, 99% of the time they have the technology that can solve all of the world problems. But they never use the technology other than fighting crime or doing crime, and that is not even going into the BS magic that is on the street but no one ever use it other than summing or fighting demons!
Isnt there a massive arc reactor in iron man 1 that gives the city clean energy? And in Avengers he makes an Arc reactor built to NY power grid.

Marvel actually has worked on eliminating pollution and therefore climate change, especially in the Krakoa era.
@@Nostripe361 Their is an tabletop rpg called Mage: The Awakening. That have the same idea, an group of mages ascended to an higher state of being. Went, "No way in hell am I sharing this!" Then cut off over 99.99% of humanity from magic.
The meta-plot is about trying to find an way to return magic to the rest of humanity even if it is impossible for the player characters to do so themselves.
Speaking of Konstantin in the hellblaser comic swamp thing gets invited to Konstantins birthday and he sees a weed plant but its only got like 2 branches with barley any leaves so swamp thing uses his powers to grow the plant and then dries it so that everyone at the party can smoke it

I love how many characters in DC are mass of swamp vegetation, they even have a supposed zombie that is just mud and swamp vegetation. At least after his first body got destroyed.

Going with the charming "how could Swamp Thing kill you" idea,... He could take control of any vegetable matter in your digestive system, encourage it to grow, and choke you from the inside. I believe he has done this, or something similar, a number of times in the comics.
I think it's Ultimate Dazzler who gets told that her powers aren't to create lights when she sings. it's actually something like she vibrates air molecules, and they cause the lights.
Yeah it’s the same thing with Jubilee originally we thought she could just make concussive sparks of fireworks.. we then learned later that she has the ability to explode atoms and molecules causing a chemical reaction in them

i think swamp things limits are the same as humans are with murder. The difference between a soldier and a serial killer is that one kills for a cause and has a reason while the other just kill because they can.
If someone cuts down a bunch of trees to build homes or roads or to use them for furniture, thats different from someone who dumps waste in the rainforest because they are too lazy to clean it up properly

The nicest think ( in my opinion) that Swamp Thing could constitute himself out of would be Lavender, so then he would.have a calming effect. So people wouldn't be on edge as he told them they're an asshole for killing nature. Or y'know *hits bong* ( im in Canada where its legal, so not breaking any laws comment police lol) smelling like some really strong weed would be cool too lol
Your point about the lavender; one 9f my favorite Swamp Thing Stories barely even has him in it. This botanist finds a tuber that fell off of Swamp Thing and is trying to identify it's species. Over the story severql people consume a portion and have these crazy psychedelic experiences; a criminal sleaze bag sees monsters everywhere and runs out in front of a bus, for one example. But back to your point, one of the people who consumes it is terminally ill with cancer, and she is effectively made at peace with dying in this beautiful fairyland grotto. It was a great story, i cant really do it justice here.

I mean most edible plants want to be eaten because it spreads their seeds, so Swamp Thing wouldn't care as long as they were farmed sustainably
1) The last Swamp Thing series was actually the second TV series. There are also two movies and a cartoon. [I'm excluding the DC films and shows.]
2) It's worth noting that most clothes are artificial fibers (Rayon, for example) or animal fibers (wool and silk), with linen and cotton not as common as they used to be. By the same measure, only beer and wine would fall under his purview; distilled spirits just don't have plant matter in them by virtue of their creation process.
3) Even Batman carries out the extreme theme: He's the richest and the most skilled person on the planet.
4) Mushrooms are outside of Swamp Thing's purview; they fall under The Rot rather than The Green.
5) The comic book Spider-man's wall-crawling has nothing to do with "molecular control"; he uses the Van der Waals force (which is electromagnetic in nature) to stick to walls. This has been exploited by Electro, whose control over electricity allows him to nullify Spidey's wall-crawling.
Eh, mycorrhizal and other symbiotic fungi might fall under the green.

Swamp thing cannot control mushrooms as they are a fungus and connected to "The Grey". Also the Alan Moore series of Swamp Thing had him cast across the universe due to being cut off from the plants of earth's frequency so he respawned on another planet and had to make his way back to earth. So he technically can control ALL plant life....if he attunes to it first.

I’ve always thought of swamp thing as he doesn’t care if you eat an orange because more are being planted and the matter is being recycled to probably go back to the green but if you kill a orange tree from the root by poisoning the soil he’ll kill you or if you were to burn it in that respect he’s more of a hero than poison ivy
Highly recommend Alan Moore's run on the Swamp Thing. It's probably the most definitive exploration of the character. Also the foundation for the modern retiriation.
Just one thing, but regarding the Green Lantern thing: Alan Scott Green lantern 1 can’t manipulate wood, as his ring was a semi mystical reconstruction made by Alan Scott himself, Hal Jordan and later with the Green lantern Corps were weak to Yellow. The GLC can manipulate wood, and Alan Scot can manipulate yellow things. The yellow weakness was caused by the parallax infestation in the central battery on Oa. But since the release of Parallax and creation of the Yellow Lantern Corps all Green Lanterns can affect yellow things, and even before that, individual green lanterns could overcome the yellow weakness through personal willpower (so when the plot demands)
At John Constantine's 40th birthday party (attended by Zantana, a talking rabbit and the spirit of celebration, known as "The Lord of the Dance) Swamp Thing turns up. After a bit of friction with Constantine, the two bury the hatchet and Constantine gets Swamp thing to make one of his friends rather meagre cannabis plant to grow.
Swamp Thing then takes his leave, but the rest of the party spend the evening getting off their tits.
Another power Swamp thing has is to make booze. A character seeking his help asked "where can I get a drink around here?" and he obliged by producing a cider like drink for her by "squeezing the fermented juices from around [his] loins"

The very concept of this makes me afraid to eat a salad. My only experience with Swamp Thing is the live action films from decades ago. I can't remember if it was the first or second film, but I had a massive crush on Heather Locklear when I was a kid.
