I think teachers should be able to share their personal opinions but I feel like it shouldn’t be in a way that says my opinion is right and yours is wrong. We teach children that democracy is good and dictatorships are evil, and whilst I happen to share this view as well, I am aware that we still indoctrinate our children into believing in democracy as North Korea does into believing their ruling style is the best. I agree that yes this has been introduced into the universities where it was spawned since the 60s and 70s. As a GenXer who went to parochial school in the 70s and early 80s you would never find this bias in social studies textbooks! I distinctly remember reading about ACCOMPLISHED Native Americans, Black, and Asian US citizens, as early as the 3rd and 4th grade. I hoped that this balanced education would continue but instead it went OFF THE RAILS! When the King Tutankhamun exhibit came to NYC my 6th grade teacher gave BOTH sides of how archaeological digs affected Egypt in the 1920s to that present day (the eighties), and what the British and Egyptian scientists were about. This is why this modern anti-American, critical race teaching today is a crock.

Yeah, I used to go to Richland Rebel Highschool in Texas, and that place was so obviously liberal. The place played CNN in the library all the time and (this was before the election) refered to Clinton as the ‘hero’ America needs and the person who will save our country. Also last year I saw on the local news something about my old middle school, North Richland Middle. A 6th grade teacher got caught giving students work, even tests, on how different things make you ‘feel’. Things such as ‘You discover that your sibling is bisexual. How does this make you feel?’.

It's one thing to share your opinion with your students, but forcing them to agree that it's fact for their grades is unacceptable. However, the paper had a clear box and answer, and it wasn’t a debate or discussion about policies and actions, and it didn’t even say “Some people think...” it boxed the student into answering the way the teacher wanted.

Liberals/socialists have been doing it for decades already. Remember the whole "if you can't bring enough gum for the whole class, then you can't have any" line? That's socialism. I'd say it has ramped up at least since the 80's and 90's, but went largely unnoticed. I can think of tons of examples in my own childhood where teachers were shoving their liberal politics down my throat. And let's keep in mind, many students look up to teachers as role models, or at least as authoritarian figures. That means they are virtually helpless when it comes to having politics rammed down their throats. Teaching 11 years old about politics is like teaching a full sex ed class to a 1st grade. But teaching your own politics to them, is like teaching the class about your own kinks. It's just plain inappropriate.

I homeschooled my youngest K4-12th grade. He loved it! We used the ABEKA program...it’s a Christian curriculum. At age four he was reading (they teach the actual phonics) and writing in cursive! We did the DVD program it was just like bing in the classroom! Anyway check out ABEKA! I promise you and your future children will love it!

This is very common in blue state schools. Since middle school I have had my teachers political opinions pushed onto me several times. I'm happy I made my own opinions on politics instead of listening to them.

My highschool history teacher was the first person to explain Democrats and republicans to me. Democrats are minorities and people who want equality and fair play. I'm an educator. So often we are now required to read scripts provided in the workbooks. We are overseers, not actual teachers. And if our students don't perform well on the standardized tests, we're canned and the school loses funding. I'm fortunate that my subject of music doesn't have many textbooks. I teach every music student to observe, critically analyze, form opinions, share/ perform and tolerate different opinions. It's terrifying how many kiddos I get that have never been taught how to formulate opinions, or feel safe expressing those feelings, or how to experience criticism. That's all music is, once you get past the pop market!

I agree that yes this has been introduced into the universities where it was spawned since the 60s and 70s. As a GenXer who went to parochial school in the 70s and early 80s you would never find this bias in social studies textbooks! I distinctly remember reading about ACCOMPLISHED Native Americans, Black, and Asian US citizens, as early as the 3rd and 4th grade. I hoped that this balanced education would continue but instead it went OFF THE RAILS! When the King Tutankhamun exhibit came to NYC my 6th grade teacher gave BOTH sides of how archaeological digs affected Egypt in the 1920s to that present day (the eighties), and what the British and Egyptian scientists were about. This is why this modern anti-American, critical race teaching today is a crock.

Yeah, I used to go to Richland Rebel Highschool in Texas, and that place was so obviously liberal. The place played CNN in the library all the time and (this was before the election) refered to Clinton as the ‘hero’ America needs and the person who will save our country. Also last year I saw on the local news something about my old middle school, North Richland Middle. A 6th grade teacher got caught giving students work, even tests, on how different things make you ‘feel’. Things such as ‘You discover that your sibling is bisexual. How does this make you feel?’.

The administration that most successfully does away with "politics" in the classroom is by definition the most political.
Not a Trump supporter (or a Hillary supporter) but this is very wrong, obviously. It's one thing to share your opinion with your students, but forcing them to agree that it's fact for their grades is unacceptable. Teachers should be encouraging their students to think for themselves and have their own opinion.

Liberals/socialists have been doing it for decades already. Remember the whole "if you can't bring enough gum for the whole class, then you can't have any" line? That's socialism. I'd say it has ramped up at least since the 80's and 90's, but went largely unnoticed. I can think of tons of examples in my own childhood where teachers were shoving their liberal politics down my throat. And let's keep in mind, many students look up to teachers as role models, or at least as authoritarian figures. That means they are virtually helpless when it comes to having politics rammed down their throats. Teaching 11 years old about politics is like teaching a full sex ed class to a 1st grade. But teaching your own politics to them, is like teaching the class about your own kinks. It's just plain inappropriate.

She’s lowering the dude’s grade, because of, at a rudimentary level, he and his father are exercising their First Amendment rights - free speech. But I know Democrats. They’re stripping down our Founding Fathers, Amendment by Amendment. 2nd is currently being attacked, and the 1st is being overrun. You could also argue the teacher is also exercising her own First Amendment rights. But, teacher is disparaging the president on a *formal* level, and trying to change her entire class’s views on things that are half BS. Show my conservatives that do that.
The kid could have legitimately written anything positive, negative, or neutral that works and gotten credit. She just chose to be a snowflake, not to use her brain and do the work.

WC Drummer you say that but we are smart in different ways, we have tech skills we’re older generations don’t, we are going into stem careers while others will be loosing their jobs to stem fields.
This is shameful. Teachers should encourage student to think on their own not try to indoctrinate them. I have no problem about raising awareness of politics but don't take sides. And train the students to think on their own-

pureum kim That’s the problem, if they think on their own they have a much better chance of choosing the side that is much more known for using facts and statistics rather than feelings. It’s the same reason you can find hundreds of videos of libs stealing Trump signs during the election but slim to none of Hilary signs being stolen. They can’t win off logical thinking, so are now doing things like forcing kids to agree with them or getting their grade marked down.

I'm an educator. So often we are now required to read scripts provided in the workbooks. We are overseers, not actual teachers. And if our students don't perform well on the standardized tests, we're canned and the school loses funding.
I'm fortunate that my subject of music doesn't have many textbooks. I teach every music student to observe, critically analyze, form opinions, share/ perform and tolerate different opinions. It's terrifying how many kiddos I get that have never been taught how to formulate opinions, or feel safe expressing those feelings, or how to experience criticism. That's all music is, once you get past the pop market!

Libs are known for not letting people have other opinions and punishing those who do. It’s why they need to force kids to openly agree with libs or else get their grade marked down.
