It's nice to see that there's quite a lot of older people taking up longboarding and or getting back on a board, I skate boarded as a teenager and up into my late twenties and now at the ripe old age of 59 I'm jumping back on waiting on my new board to arrive and I can't wait! keep at it and enjoy yourself and never care about what other people or friends my think it's not their life it's yours live it to it's fullest be safe and take care
Thanks Eric! Yes I'm loving it. I skated very minimally as a kid, Just had a penny board and didn''t really stick with it. Recently bought a cruiser board for the park, so I can skate with my kids. enjoying the journey. all the best to you.
I think it's awesome that you land paddle skateboard (is this the correct terminiology?) to work and incorporate bicycling as well. I wish I had such a work commute instead of my 120-mile roundtrip drive; but, I only drive to work 2-3x/week and work from home the other days. Love your videos, thank you for posting them.
u should try electric. all positive attributes minus the kick pushing. but u can kick push with hub drive if u want. no more foot breaking and jumping off
Hi Axeel, sorry for the delay in responding... As I'm a newb I'm probably not the best personal to ask, however from my research/minimal experience, firsly I'd ask, what type of longbaording do you want to do? If you are new to Longboarding, generally get something wider and with a longer wheel base. I bought the Landyachtz "switchblade40" which is 10 inches wide and 40"long. It's also a "double drop" board, meaning it has a drop down deck and drop through trucks. This means it's low to the ground for stability and also easier to push. (less knee bending) If you can afford it buy a good quality board to start with, they are better made and easier safer to ride than something cheap. Brands I'd consider are Landyachtz (Drop cat, drop hammer and switchblade models) Arbor longboards and Pantheon longboards. all the best!
Hey, I stumbled across your channel, it's great to see others engaging in active transport for commuting! I have a question about your long board paddle. Did you make that at home? I am looking to commute via long board with a paddle too- but wanna see what other options there are for paddles, thanks for sharing!
Hi Teija, yes Iade this landpaddle at work. it's a piece of aluminum pipe I already had, I added the handle part to the top by cutting a hole for the long pipe to slide I to then I welded it on and wrapped it in a bicycle handlebar tape. for the rubber ball at the bottom, I bought from a pet store, it's a dog ball. I drilled a hole into the ball about 1/2 way into it, and slipped the pole into the ball. it's very light. just try not to use the pole as a brake, or you will wear the ball down very quickly. I hope this helps. cheers, Dave.
I like your bike setup, I had the same bars on my touring bike a couple of years ago, although I now use Fairdale Archer riser bars. And is that a Fairdale skate rack on the back? Great video by the way. 😀
Hi Nye, The skate rack is a copy of the Fairdale rack I made at work... out of 3/8 stainless tubing, TIG welded together. amde to fit my commuter bike rack. It works with my longboard and cruiser board, only I cannot puit the kickstand down when I have the cruiser board mounted in it. cheers.
oh neat i’ve been looking at putting my longboard on my bike. Which rack is that you have? I like longboarding but I have a hard time with how steep some of the goose is so i’d like to bike to flatter areas. oh and which land paddle is that? i’d like to try those some day as well thanks for sharing how you commute!
Hi Millie, The rack for the longboard I made myself. But I did make it copying from the commercially available rack from Fairdale. shop.fairdalebikes.com/products/fairdale-skaterack-skateboard-rack The only thing I would change if I made another one is to have the board angled back away from the seat more, as when I wear a backpack and lean back the backpack touches the longbaord a bit. The landpaddle I also made myself out of aluminium tubing, welded a "T" handle on the top and wrapped it with bicycle bar tape. I bought a solid dog chew ball for the foot part, drilling a hole in it to slide over the landpaddle end for grip when pushing. I agree on some of the steep sections of the goose, some I can now go down but still others are a challenge and I just walk down. I'm just starting to learn to slide now, so that will give me more confidence to stop when I get better at it. cheers!
I still walk down some of the steeper sections of the goose, but as I get more confident and improve my skating I find I am able to start higher up on the hills and sometimes take them all the way down. It's a very encouraging to see progress like this.
@@mardomardomardomardo thanks so much for the detailed info. That's neat that you made so much stuff yourself. I actually did get the Fairdale Skaterack a while back and it's a good design. I should try a land paddle sometime 🙂
I'd be happy to lend you a landpaddle if you want to try it. Maybe in the spring when we finally get some better weather...my email is davelace@gmail.com cheers.
Hi, I have thought about getting an electric longboard, but want to keep the regular one as long as possible. I enjoy the exercise. It's the most fun I have had commuting...

Great to see, I’m about the same age and have an older battleaxe that’s great to cruise around on. Keep it up!
Right on!
That looks like fun
Love these videos :)
Thanks Anna. I made this one mainly to show my family a brief clip of my commute...

Love it 👍👍
I really enjoyed the live commentary video, which you posted 6 months ago. Keep on shredding!!
Thanks! Will do!
Your killing it. Fast improvement
Thank you, though progress doesn't feel so fast, but still lots of fun!

Ever thought of getting an electric skateboard. Or does this seem more calmer than you? Either way it seems pleasant.
