Not what I wanted…

  • This is not the update I wanted to give. I’ve really been looking forward to start my season and to have this setback is a really huge bummer. It’s very frustrating because I have virtually never had any sort of back problems. I don’t think I need to worry long term since I do my best to train and live a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, what this comes down to is bad timing. My goal is to compete at Champions Cup which I feel is very obtainable as long as I make the right decisions and moving forward. I am of course really disappointed that I won’t play this weekend, but I my guy is telling me that it is the right decision to better my chances for the Major.
Thank you guys for support 🙏
    Eagle

No need to feel bad man. Seems like a smart decision to me. I messed up my lower back years ago doing something mundane too because I was rushing to get everything done. I kept reinjuring it for months after that because I never allowed it to fully heal. Finally I started taking it seriously and after gradually building up strength in my back it has been fine for quite a few years now. Will be awesome to see you out there again whenever you decide the time is right.

Back injury is a real nightmare. Hope it's something that clears up soon, you're doing the right thing by waiting. The last thing you want is for that to turn into a permanent problem. Be very careful with back stuff.

It's all about long-term progress, and you're getting so close! If you're still having pain into next week, it might be worth looking into some dry needling or even acupuncture. Stay positive you got thousands of people rooting you on and wanting you to he at your best when do come back.

I think the reason for the conflicting views here are because, in my experience, Chiropractic treatment is a mixed bag. I found that if your alignment is out of wack, they can get you back in a good place, but regular treatment doesn’t do much good and may even harm you. Physical Therapy is way to go to strengthen the muscles and joints to help prevent subsequent injury.

Get well brother! Back issues really suck. I just had my L4-L5 fused 4 months ago after 3 years of chronic pain from a work injury. Strengthening exercises for the low back will always be in a daily routine for me now and I suggest them for all disc golfers. Doing side planks, one legged bridges, static holds, bird dogs, trunk rotations with medicine ball and pelvic tilts will all help build those inner spine muscles. Get well and hope to see you next weekend at champions cup.

I've had back issues. It's really frustrating, but it sounds like you're being responsible and taking the right actions. As much as it's a bummer, I think you've made the right decision to hold off. Everyone is super excited for your return, but you're right that it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I got the same type of pain from a similar type of "silly incident" after lifting my workout bag from a bench. Have had this on and off for 25 years now and have learned: Resting is NOT the solution for this backpain. Walks (1h) daily or more often helped me more than anything during pain stages, even if walking is slow and uncomfortable. Get rehab exercises from a physio with experience with this type of problem. What's the cause? For me, it is probably excessive sitting with pressure on the lower back. Stretching hip flexors often may also help. If you find the right people in health care, they do know about this type of problem. Also sad news, if it is the same problem, expect 2-3 weeks recovery, though it may differ for an elite athlete like you. I unfortunately think Champions cup won't work for you, but you'll see during recovery.

Well, you're not wrong to guess that you're going to get a lot of support because I think you're making the right call. I think it's very intelligent and I would say based off of my own issues with my back being about the same age as you. I've got a few years on you but not by a whole lot. I wish I'd known about inversion tables sooner and I would encourage you to start using an inversion table for approximately 10 to 15 minutes a day. It would probably really help all of the positive dietary changes you've made. All of the athletic ability that you have is going to be more adequately injected I guess would be the way I would phrase it into your soft tissue between your discs and that is basically what an inversion cable will do because it allows them to relax and separate defying their normal position via gravity in order to allow those good positive nutrients to get in there. But that's just my suggestion. Talk to the PTS and stuff. See what they have to say. You know. Do what you do best and we'll look forward to seeing you when you are back in action with big guy
