Elder Dragons must be killed on sight because they're walking catastrophes that disturb the balance of the world, but Val Hazaak (with the exception of Blackveil variant) actually are keeping the balance. I believe they're lumped down in the elder dragon categories just because there's no other categories that fits them in
I love the way MH World gave almost all monsters a place in the ecosystem that feels believable even if the monster is designed pretty fantastic and therefore "unrealistic" like the Vaal Hazak.
We want the Dutchman's Vaal Hazak! A ghostly deadsea dragon coverred in dead sealife, shells and sea moss. it could also have a green light bacteria that lights up in the dark for a more ghostly feel
Vaal is quite an interesting creature in my opinion. He may look terrifying at sight, but he actually acts like a guardian towards his habitat and even preserves the life of one area to support another. He is literally my favorite Elder Dragon of all time.
Fighting this guy (mostly Blackveil) is hell but tbh it's one of my fav monsters to follow around. I don't know if it's just me but I find it rarely ever procs aggro without reason and will allow you to get pretty close so long as you're not stepping all over its face (It also helps that Blackveil is completely blinded by its own spores, letting you approach easily). IMO Vaal Hazak is probably one of the more patient Elder Dragons because its passive effluvium feeding methods give it no reason to violently rush around the map and purposefully seek territorial disputes.
I wish Vaal Hazak would've showed up for Rise, but it's understandable to see why it didn't. Low-key hoping they add an area similar to the Rotten Vale in MHR
“...standing way above monsters like Odogaron and Great Girros” Odogaron during AT Vaal quest: “dat big piece of rotten meat looks yummy” [Turf War 80 pts]
I've been loving these lore videos, I feel that Velkhana or Rajang could be good but its up to you guys to decide whether to make a video on them or not.
I noticed the Vaal Hazak has a similar relationship to the effluvium as the Gore Magala has to the frenzy virus. However, Vaal Hazak has a more symbiotic relationship than Gore Magala does, as it seems like it's specialized to only consume the bacteria. I do think it's cool that it has such a important relationship with it's enviorment, but it's variant could cause similar ecological devastation to the Gore Magala.
So that double jaw actually belongs to Vaal itself! Since there’s no flesh between the bones, I thought it was wearing the corpse of a bigger Vaal, so the second jaw was just from the skull it was wearing. Nice to have that cleared up.
Namiele would be a good idea it is just as mysterious or even more than vaal hazak. It has the same controlling ability of water like vaal hazak. And maybe the lore on it can explain its ability to control two elements. With the exception of alatreon, I don't think there is no other monster that can do that.
I´ve been really enjoying this lore videos, keep it up! As for an upcoming monster, I suggest Brachydios. Has always beena a favourite of mine and might be a good video with the unique slime mechaninc
That would be cool. A bit like they did with Kushala, although not in World, they gave us Rusted Kushala - if you broke parts on him you see the bright shining scales underneath as Rusted Kushala would be ready to shed it's skin.
I think the corpse coat also helps it fly. The wings on naked Vaal Hazak look like it would take a lot more effort (i.e. more flaps per second) to get its body off the ground.
Thanks for the amazing video, guys! I'm actually going to make a tattoo of Vaal, and you've captured some amazing shots of his head -- gonna use those as a reference.
Ah yes, the typical college student as an Elder Dragon. Sleeps all day, barely eats, somehow sustains itself from toxic substances and moves like he just woke up.

Pls, pls do a monster hunter lore video on Valstrax, to me he is probably one of the most underrated elder dragons and yet he possesses so much power and sheer strength since he is also on of the fastest monsters out there, and mysterious since he lives on a mountainous pillar
The monster that changed how I played MH. Using the armor set's passive regen to build health skills meant I rarely had to heal, and could play way more agressively. I may actually be in a little trouble with Rise having to go back to normal.
My first experience with vaal hazak was riddled with pain, deaths and anger. Now i hunt them mercilessly, killing the arch tempered hr one on a regular basis
Theory: Blackveil is at the end of its lifecycle and is losing its ability to fully manipulate effluvium. As such, the effluvium begins consuming it and the massive amount og energy and nutrients allows fruiting bodies to forn.
I think that vaal hazak is a distant related to alatreon. When you see the concept drawings of him you can see the same body structure as well as the spines on his chest and body. Also his walking is similar to the alatreon.
Me and my BF had a theory that BV was a Vaal that wandered into the Forest when it sensed an imbalance and over time the dead skin on it rotted and molded into the spores, which might also have caused that mutation where it's fire resistant
I read a fan theory once about Vaal being possibly the fabled Equal Dragon weapon, the super weapon made by the ancient civilization of monster Hunter that incurred the wrath of nature and all monsters especially Fatalis against Wyvarian and human kind. Also I like him to me I see him as an embodiment of the will to survive/live versus what many at first glance would conclude without deeper meaning as a creature of undeath.
I think Vaal Hazak is the most terrifying Monster in all of World. Everything else I could see myself able to fight, bomb dragons, fire lions, giant black dragon, god of elements. But the Dragon of Death that will literally suck your life force? I can't imagine stepping foot towards that thing.
So in a way vaal hazak not only takes life by absorbing the effluvium from living animals causing their deaths, but also gives life but ensuring that life in the rotten vale (despite being a monster graveyard), thrives. Talk about generous
it's a nice touch that like nerscylla he uses the skin of other monsters 2 overcome 1 of his weaknesses though both of them r vulnerable 2 fire regardless. his coolest attack by far is the fact that not only do u loose half your health bar if u r infected but he can drink u like he does 2 the girros in his cutscene, violantly pulling all the effluvium out of a victim's body along with their blood or oxygen i would love 2 see a mod with blackvale being given the last of us color scheme and the clicker audio, if that's not a thing yet make it happen
Black veil is for me the most dangerous of the elders. You can’t get close to this thing without getting hit by the effluvium. Extremely dangerous, approach with extreme caution and don’t forget the null berries.

MH lore: Val Hazaak is a very important part to the ecosystem of the rotten vale!
Hunters: *It must die*
You got hearted and it made me laugh you deserve a like
I feel like that applies to every apex that isnt Deviljho, Nergigante does the same job we do technically and we killed him twice

Elder Dragons must be killed on sight because they're walking catastrophes that disturb the balance of the world, but Val Hazaak (with the exception of Blackveil variant) actually are keeping the balance. Plot twist: Vaal Hazak is actually an unused monster from Resident Evil series
He was the original design for Lady Dimitrescu
Well that explains why it looks like something from resident evil
I literally thought that Val was an Undead Elder Dragon when I first fought him and I found that aspect terrifying.

Vaal Hazaak: IT'S A NECROMANCER DRAGON THAT WEARS DEAD MONSTERS.
