      I just put out one on CW settings a week or so ago and there is a link to it right at the beginning of this video. I will be releasing another one in a week or so for RTTY/PSK settings. And I have a couple of tours and reviews, WSJT-x set-up, and others that may interest you. Here's my channel info so you can look them up... 73 de Tom, ND3N

    Thank You Tom for this video. You have helped me get a better understanding of the 991A with this video and others you have made. Looking forward to the next contest and trying your Heavy Traffic settings. I have also watched a number of your other videos these have also been very helpful. One last thing, I think there is a typo on your Setting Summary, its petty but thought you might want to know. Under Main Settings item 023: NB Width is set at 2mS, on the radio only 1,3 and 10mS are available. Its set at 3 in your video at the 2:06 mark. Once again enjoy your videos and looking forward to more in the future.

    Field day is coming up soon and I'm concerned about operating in such close proximity to other radios is there anything that can be done to protect my radio I use 991 a

    • @ND3N
      @ND3N  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pat, your FT-991A has a lot of protections built in, as do most modern rigs produced in the last 20 or so years. While you can certainly operate right next to any of these rigs, you want to make sure you have a good ground. This can be a common ground, with your strap running to a common grounding point, but don't daisy-chain the ground with other rigs. You also want to make sure your antennas are located as far as reasonable from the operating positions, and that they are also separated in frequency and mode. In other words, you could have a 40M phone and 40M CW station at your field day site, but make sure they are on opposite sides of your antenna farm. You might also want to add narrow band filters to each rig using 40 meters. The same concerns come with bands that are harmonically related, such as 40 and 15 meters. Since this is a short-term exposure, you don't need to be too anal about this, just do the best you can within your space limitations. I had the opportunity, in 2014, to work a field day site that operated 27A. We had 3 rigs (constantly active on CW, DIG, and SSB) on each band, plus a few others, and using the principles discussed earlier, we had no cross talk and were very successful in that effort. Hope this gives you some reassurance - 73 de Tom, ND3N

    The manual on page 61 says not to go above 25 watts RF power in AM mode. Does this apply to USB/LSB?

    • @ND3N
      @ND3N  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the rig is limited to 25 watts in AM mode. SSB modes can go to 100…. This is because the carrier is suppressed in SSB.

    • @ND3N

      When in SSB mode the CW options, such as BK-IN, are not applied…. So keying your mic in SSB will turn on the transmit, thus the red light…. Sounds like your set up is correct

      ...to receive NOAA pictures or SSTV-Pics it´s not necessary to need special settings. It´s just a question of the software and the antenna. The 991A has an integrated soundcard - hooked to the computer with a simple printer cable USB-A to USB-B....
