Thank you for all the work you've done on helping other hams with these setting.
No problem I love helping folks and learning with everyone GL and 73..
Thanks for sharing. I've ordered the FT-991A back in June and still waiting for it. This video will help me set it up when it finally arrives.
Good evening John, I hope it comes in soon so you can give it a "test-drive" let me know if you need anything email me shope02@yahoo.com and I'll send you my latest notes I've been using for the videos '73 de KI5JUF
@@westtexasvideogateski5juf255 mine arrived a couple of weeks ago. it's a very nice tranceiver! I've been toying with the settings per your video and using the monitor function transmitting into a dummy load to hear the results. I'm not sure I'm the best judge for what sounds most natural in my own voice however.
@@imarunner2 Good evening John how are you doing? One friend recommended headphones to listen to you voice, Heil is a popular HAM brand, I know it's hard to be the judge of you own voice over a speaker. The important this is not to have distortion or overdriving the audio into the amp, let me know how things progress, appreciate the message '73 de KI5JUF
Steve, again thanks for this, after reading the manual a bit more I think I understand he Freq/Gain/Q selections better. I watched another of your videos and menu items 131 through 136 are different between the two videos. In fact, using the MONI setting the unprocessed sound is louder than the processed sound. No worries I will keep tweaking it. I am using a headset and find that I can't run my Mic Gain above 10 not my compression above 10 or I get a lot an ALC into the red and Compression above 10db. The good thing is that I do understand it better due to your videos.
Good evening timmyers thanks for the message these can be tricky let me know if you need anything this radio is a lot of fun 73 and hope to catch you on the air.
I made these adjustments and started using the speech processor. It's really helped those harder qsos and I'm even breaking a few pile ups where I've always struggled.
Good evening Robert, thanks very much for the message I'm exited the audio changes are getting you through the pile ups, yeah that's a great feeling to hear another station pulling you through, I'm way behind on my HF need to get my CP-610 up in the air, thanks and let me know if there's anything else I can help you with '73
I appreciate your videos greatly. Bought a 991A and it helps to get info. from someone who is using one. I really like the 991A.
Good morning Patrick - thanks for the message if you will go to the about tab and scroll down where is says email click it and it will prompt you send me an email and I'll send you my PDF I'm using to make the videos it has all the material I discuss in the video's. @@westtexasvideogateski5juf255 Thank you. You have a good one too. I do have one question. Have you ever tried to find a way to view the 991 screen on an external display? I have searched and haven’t found a way.
Very well done Steve!, Thank You!
Good evening Ron, I got behind today with the Hurricane in LA was crazy today, thanks again for the kind words - talk to you tomorrow sir '73 de KI5JUF
Thanks. Always appreciated for my own rig setup. I have an md1 mic.
Hi Gus, how ya doing good to hear from, yeah I love that MD1 mic, it was a little far reach so I compromise with the M-100, always great to hear from you I'm still learning too, I hope you had a great 4th, thanks I really appreciate the message '73 de KI5JUF sir!
Great info thank you
All these Gazillion menu settings are just a sales gimmick that people fall for. There are many older ANALOG radios that are much better than the FT991A and they work just fine.
It would interesting to to take a older radio without all the software and do the same type of video showing old school tuning knobs etc. I'm embarrassed it would take me a while to muddle through all the knobs and switches just to get started - I see now even some of the newest radios are just a black box with some coax connections you operate the whole radio by software. Next they will embed a microchip in our brain and not need computers. Thanks for message 73
I have some real world experience with this, I had a Yaesu FT-767-GX, a very nice radio. I was having some Tx issues and opted for a 991A, I couldn't believe the difference in Rx quality, and that was before I learned to use all of the audio settings available. Now I do have a crutch that is very helpful in using Win4Yaesu control software which makes changing these settings much easier. I sold the 767 and never looked back, YMMV
