  • Poor Man's Leica M-D: Modifying My Fuji X100T for a Digital-Analog Fusion Shooting Experience. In today's video, I explain how I modified my street photography camera, the Fuji X100T, to better fit my shooting style, and create a shooting experience that motivates me to pick up my camera and hit the streets.

    I love it! Over the last couple of weeks I've been experimenting with custom film recipes to create the black and white look I like in camera (at least get close). Covering the screen would make it even better. I'm going to give it a try.

    My X100T LCD screen just stopped working this week, and I've been looking for ways to fix it... Maybe I'll just pretend like I did it on purpose and become a better photographer in the process!

    I'm actually doing almost the exact things as you do on my vacation to Bali on 2018 with my X100 (the first one). I know almost all of my friends have FOMO and want me to send the photographs from the X100 directly after I photograph them.
    I hate this situation because I just want to fooling around and dont want to fiddling around with gadgets so I just taped the X100's screen and pretending it's a film camera lol.
    Then, almost the same as you again, I get a bunch of 1GB SD card, if you choose RAW+JPG, I will got 40 photograph per SD card. But yeah half full of 2GB card will do the same.
    It's actually quite liberating experience and makes me really selective in a good way.. I only shoot 76 photos on four days of vacation and love ALL of them.
    Watching this video and read the comment, I'm so happy to see some people get this and love this idea. It's a proof of the concept "less is more" and sadly we are the tiny little minorities on the camera world (and the Leica MD was too expensive for almost all of us lol).

    Interesting challenge for photographers to want to improve on “wasted shots” & thinking before just take the photo.

    That's a good idea. I have been trying to decide how to block my screen out also, but not destroying the LCD. Thank. I'm not the only one that thinks this way.

    Just bought an x100t and was planning on just turning the LCD screen off but this looks so cool! One question: What about when you want to access the menu and change settings? Can the menu be viewed in the VF?

    Just playing with my "new" Fuji X100T and set it so there is no LCD playback or EVF and I am using the optical viewfinder only so essentially it is like shooting analog although I can still see my settings in the viewfinder ala Nikon F4 style. If I wanted I can even turn off the icon/info overlay in the optical viewfinder so even most my settings are hidden if needed without having to cover the rear LCD.

    • @nerdingoutonphotography6798

      For street photography, I actually love shooting hyperfocal distance at f8. I find it to be the quickest way to get moments on the street. Have you ever tried that?

    • @gettons1980
      @gettons1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nerdingoutonphotography6798 Yes I have, been using that most of the time on 28mm and 35mm in fact. I was just wondering if you have to shoot wide open, whether you would use autofocus or the focus peaking in order to recreate the Leica-M behaviour.

    • @shlomiamiga
      @shlomiamiga 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly that’s the only bummer about the X100T - the fact that the lens is manual focus by wire. I really wish it was mechanical focus. If I shoot wide open or large apertures I revert back to autofocus. How about you?

      @gettons1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Jomel! The RD1 has always been an OG inspiration. Unfortunately with how small the resolution is, as well as how much they are going for on eBay it's a tough sell! It's a beauty though!

  • @KILLROYCZOP

    I think I'll try this out on my xpro1 since it's kind of my "digital film" camera and I only use old adapted Minolta lenses on it. I already don't look at the screen, but I think it's worth it just for the aesthetics.

  • @primefotoNL
    @primefotoNL 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't chimp anyway and my screen is always off until i need to find something in the menu so i won't cover it up. I have a 1 Gb SD card. I can shoot 25 picture in RAW and Fine. I can save 37 pictures shooting RAW only and 139 in Fine only. Shooting in RAW it is and that takes about 6 seconds to save the file on the SD so no burst possible either. I wish it would be SOOC and then about 37 pictures on 1 card but i don't think they exist that small. Maybe i could try a 512 MB SD card. That would even make a better challenge for myself if i could do that only SOOC. I know myself. If i can shoot 137 pictures i will. So for now i will shoot in RAW only and use one of the standard film simulations in Lightroom per full SD card.

  • @tremolo664
    @tremolo664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why not simply turning the screen off and buying a 128MB card? I'm very confused. #CameraConspiracies

    • @gettons1980
      @gettons1980 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess the shooting experience would not have been the same to have a disabled screen. This way it looks like it came out of the factory like that and probably makes the author happier.
      With regards of the memory, probably the author does not have a 128MB memory card and does not want to keep many SD cards around.

    • @shlomiamiga
      @shlomiamiga 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s all about being happy, in my opinion. In photography, and just in general so you’re spot on with your observation.
      2gb, 16gb, 32gb, 64gb, 128gb, 256gb, doesn’t matter. You know the saying “SD storage capacity does not reflect one’s capacity of harnessing happiness”, right?
