Hi Gene, There used to be a guy out around Beaver Cr. here in Or. (Out by Oregon City,Or.) That makes these stainless fins that mount to the sides of the shoe on your pump. He supplied long stainless bolts that you drive out the first and last pins holding in the intake grates on your shoe while driving in the bolt's then nyloc nuts to the bolts. The fins funnel more water into the pump and also creates crisper stearing, he warned my buddy that you have to be careful, you could pitch someone out of the boat!!😂 In that shallow water they'd work well directing more water into your pump! Dunno if he's still around or not? Possibly a Google search if you're interested. I can contact my buddy if you're interested? Great job running that "skinny water",👍
Nice job Gene netting that old king I have been there twice in the last week and I did hook a coho and lost on the bank they coming in slowly Good luck next time sir tight lines
That river will always be a special place for me. It’s sad to see how it’s been managed. Strange how when they quit supporting a hatchery run to save “wild” fish, the run disappears.
I always fish with a bit of a mono drop on my weight...up to 12 inches. The reason is to lift my presentation up off the bottom so it's more within the holding fish's view as opposed to tumbling along near or on the bottom. The dragging weight and the bobber create the line tension and the lift. I don't know why that is not a more common practice it almost never tangles.
I'm a big new fan of the soft bead for Coho. While they may not outfish real eggs I come home with limits everytime, I don't have to handle, store or cure eggs, and 1 bead can last all day.
I'll bet they jack the water way up for a couple days after a good rain this month. Lewis is super low right now too. I reality that is a pitiful ammount of gravel compared to what the river would naturally move anyway so I doubt it will make any significant impact. Keep your tip wet!
@@Blazer_Fisher if it is clipped or mis-clipped it is from the hatchery. Naturally spawning fish don't have a clipped adipose. A mis-clip is one where the worker doesn't completely remove the adipose but show obvious evidence of an attempted removal.
I just realized what you are referring to. I did make a mistake when editing that video. The fish was clipped. it was a hatchery fish. I inadvertently wrote "unclipped" in the text. I will make a comment to clear that up. Funny how younwere the only one to point that out. The reg is to release all Chinook. .
I love your videos. I grew up fishing the cow I'm 39 now and I've lived in Newport wa for the last 7 years and miss it over there so much I would love to come over and fish with you sometime if you would be willing to fish with me ... we could share stories and skills..
Have you considered adjusting your drag? We saw you using your hand to slow it down, so we know you knew it was way to lose, why not just adjust it so when the fish isn't running you gain enough control and fight the fish? Also, right before you netted the fish, it was just laying there exhausted, and I could still hear your drag going out. It's obvious to folks viewing this video why you struggled with so many fumbled attempts to net this fish.
It does seem too loose but since I can't focus 100% of my attention on just fighting the fish, I keep it a little loose so when my focus is on boat position, camera angles or upcoming shallows the fish can run at will. thanks for your comment and watching. Appreciate it.
So much better than those videos from those Addicted fishing clowns. All they are in it for is the money now. All they do is ramble on about nothing. At least your videos are educational and your not trying to sell us overpriced products like the Addicted fishing 🤡
@petertroy9577 haha. First of all it was a hatchery fish. Second, It was released. Third, if a hatchery spawns in the river, it doesn't create a wild fish. Fouth, thanks for watching. :-)
