Can anyone help me out with the music theory regarding this style of music?
I feel like it follows the lines of a minor key, but the second note is dropped flat, the third is raised a half step, and the seventh is also raised a half step. I believe it's a specific type of scale, but sadly I am uneducated regarding the basics of this style.
So This is the Phragish Scale as they call it in Jewish Klezmer Music, used extensively in the Balkan region. You have b2 b6 b7, so here in F, F Gb A Bb C Db Eb F, HENCE, it’s not Major OR Minor, it’s really F7 to our western ears, and we wait for it to go to Bb- to resolve, but it does’t (though does for part of this song but the tonic is still F(7) ). The SCALE means their V chord (as we’d hear it) is the bVII-, or here Eb-, instead of C7.
@@CPez This scale is also known as phrygian dominant which is the 5th mode of harmonic minor so its relative harmonic minor is Bb if you wanna start from minor or you could just raise the 3rd scale degree in phrygian. So that's what it is in a western point of view I guess.
