Some were intentionally drowned so that they could claim large sums of money( insurance) back home in the UK. He should tell every White person who comes there that if their mortgage is with Lyolds or Barclays Bank, they are dealing with one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Slave trade. Slavery should never define us to world. It was an unfortunate event that happened, yes but, we sure have more better histories that can define our value and existence in this modern world.
African people have a beautiful history and culture that goes far beyond slavery and it should be taught. But, to erase all history connecting to slavery is not the right thing to do. African people need to learn history and slavery is a traumatic, sad part of that.

I have visited many regions in Ghana over the years but for those in the Americas and Caribbean who have yet to visit, you have shown them where some of our ancestors no doubt last walked upon African soil. There were approximately 40 forts/slave trading posts along the Gold Coast that like the fort at AdA, are either ruins or no longer in existence but Cape Coast and Elmina still stand and they are calling you Jasmine! Peace & Blessings to you for all of your hard work and dedication.

As a descendant of enslaved Africans it pains my heart each time I witness something like this. I am very happy to know that Ghanaians are aware of our history. Our ancestors endured unimaginable horror, especially during the sojourn in the middle passage. To have survived that and then to endure a lifetime of unspeakable horror is a testament of their strength and will to survive. The Zong massacre 1781 and the book In Miserable Slavery by Douglas Hall which is based on the detailed diary kept by English enslavers Thomas Thistlewood will give some insight into the horrors our oppressors endured. I will put this on my list for the next visit. I just came back from Ghana and we stayed in Ada but I didn't know this was there or else I would have definitely visited. I remember seeing pictures of the statues, bug I didn't know it was in Ada.
To me seeing white people there is like a mockery and slap in the face! For what purpose would they go there? Someone help me see the reasoning. Even if I was into white men “and I am not” I would not go and feel comfortable where they have their memorabilia such as flags, guns and klu klux Klan uniforms on display.

This was a great subject to cover and share with us. However, I won't lie, it was hard to watch the disrespect of someone putting their feet in the water that represents our ancestors who were thrown overboard like garbage. Love your work as always. You look beautiful.

Africa Is Like O: I thought I was the only one who feels that those women were very disrespectful. They have no remorse what their ancestors did.. Imagine going to the Jewish Holocaust Museum and do something like that. Only in Africa!

Thank you for sharing - EJI - Equal Justice Initiative is a very intense Legal organization in the US that fights to have false charges & extreme sentences overturned or rescinded in US courts for mostly black/brown people often falsely convicted - I didnt know some of their sculptures came from here - Thank you for sharing this was soooo intriguing for me
