I thought it was pretty funny and cute at times, but man was it ever tropey. Raunchy sex scene? Check Drug scene? Check “Shocking nudity” scene? Check Third act break up? Check “Heart warming” tear-jerking scene? Check Idk, it just didn’t break any kind of new ground nor was it very clever overall. I mean it was well paced, snappy, quick-witted, short enough that it never overstayed its welcome and the 4 actresses did do a good job but it just felt too much like so many other comedies out there
Interesting review. I myself am a Chinese adoptee (no chance of being Korean, my birth city is too far from the Korean border, and China is not a mobile society in the sense of its difficult to move cities). I'm not sure how I feel about this premise being played for laughs. Regarding the open communication w the adoption story, that's very unrealistic. Here's some context: in China it's illegal to abandon your child, and illegal to take your own child to the orphanage. In the 90s, many authorities looked the other way on the abandonment due to the pop. control issue. Families abandon their child in a location (bus stop, market, train station, etc) so they can be found in hopes a stranger will take them to the orphanage.
The revelation of the main character discovering her birth parents are Korean was handled pretty well but it was her friend's family in China that reacts in a rather mean and stereotypical manner for attempted comic relief.
I thought this was one of the funniest movies I've seen in years. I belly laughed through the Cardi B vid and then her Vagina reveal. I literally teared up with laughter. The theater did as well. This was a built-up joke, and it paid off. I thought these two would love this movie.
Being Asian *and* American is a 'flavor' that (Asian) writers like to discover, over and over again - your comments on the comedy part - none of this was really working, especially, is where it's at...great review!😊
My thoughts are pretty much the same as you guys. There were some jokes with profane punchlines that got repetitive but the airport hangar scene definitely had me dying, as well as the few scenes Desmond Chiam had. I honestly thought the main four would encounter the drug dealer again. As a Canadian and live where the film was shot, the 99 Ranch Market line from the "ally" superior of Audrey went all over our heads as we don't have any locations here. 😅
I walked out about mid way through the movie. The writing really failed those talented ladies. I like raunchy comedies but it need to have a little realism to capture my attention. Very disappointed
The most unrealistic thing about the movie aside from the train ride and K-Pop scene, was that Kat and Clarence declare their devotion to Christianity, which is not accepted/recognized in China.
This movie sounds awful. I'm still going to stream it, haha. Joseph, I agree with you about what the better movie would have been. It sounds like this movie is all over the damn place.
Haha being Asian I actually had an urge to go see that movie, but your review just put a stop to it; thanks for that. That plot sounds ridiculous, I can't picture a single Chinese business man (some probably would hold meetings in a night club, this part is not hard to believe) telling someone because he/she/they are adopted they need to show who their real parents are before doing business.
Ah you should still go check it our. It’s really worth the laugh tbh! Some scenes are so damn funny i couldn’t listen to the next lines after that😂😂 (and i worked on the show so i saw them lots of times already, but they still are funny even now xd) It’s really worth watching even with that businessman’s line about family
Thanks for posting, I was kinda tired from work to see an early screening last Saturday. I probably still want to see it eventually. Happy 4th, guys & FJF🌭🎟
Nick and Joseph, many critics have already posted their review publicly even on Rotten Tomatoes and people have posted their reactions on social media even as far back as the first bunch of screenings for this movie like at the SFSW festival. So safe to say the review embargo lifted a long time ago. As someone contemplating buying a ticket RIGHT NOW cuz advanced ticket sales and online booking has opened up, could you please consider dropping this review ASAP please? It would be really helpful. Please and thanks.
I agree. They tried too hard to be raunchy and fit in too many crazy scenes just for the sake of it. I support breaking stereotypes, but this one was slightly too forced. As an ABC (American Born Chinese), I was glad to see good looking Asian males portrayed :)
I dunno the clip where the characters are kids and first met and one if them cursed out the racist white boy got a chuckle from me. But I'm not sure from this review.
I’m black. I’m not a fan of movies that constantly crack jokes on white plp. I feel it’s played out. This movie wasn’t that funny to me but i still had a decent time watching it. I walked out about 10-15 minutes before the ending but I knew what was coming. I would say 5/10. I enjoyed the xxx jokes 😏 lol
Well, Indians are Asian Nick - India is in South Asia - so Joseph was correct.
Every living this related so race and etc is fake and nonsense tbh
Drugs on a train in China where it’s a felony to even smoke pot?!
Desmond Chiam is in Now Apocalypse and that show was a wiiiiiiild ride!
I saw it Saturday and loved it. I laughed so hard at some things that I peed a little. I haven’t done that since Girls Trip came out.
😬😬😬
This movie was not what I expected at all but I laughed a lot.
Haven't seen raunchy comedy like this since the 2000s
They went for it.
We need continuous support for older franchises such as Harold and Kumar, white chicks, Road Trip [Original], Old School, Wedding Crashers, etc
facts cuz this movie was not it.
I submit that we should call the movie review channel, "We can get to it."
Or "Her hair"
yeah man that video scene made me cry too.
I thought it was pretty funny and cute at times, but man was it ever tropey.
Raunchy sex scene? Check
Drug scene? Check
“Shocking nudity” scene? Check
Third act break up? Check
“Heart warming” tear-jerking scene? Check

This was a good review. I agree with a lot of the points given.
im still confess how they went home with no pass port

Thank you!
Ashley park also originated Gretchen wieners on the Broadway version of mean girls
I 🥰 this!! Wanted it to be longer.
Joy ride without a joy ride… but lot’s of fun….
As always another great review 💕❤️💕🎉
Can't wait to watch this!

Ya..i was confuse with thr plot,
Thanks, Gentlemen!
Can you review FROM?
The film just sets up so much to never pay 90% of it off
All the goals of the main characters went to shit because of the WAP parody.

You guys need to review Run Rabbit Run movies: I like your reviews of movies

Saw it, thought it was pretty entertaining
that's not exactly what happened. watch reviews after you see movies. this film was great in my opinion

Yes, it sounds very derivative

Korea?
Imagine watching this on a plane. 😂

thanks for dropping it early guys
17:01 I think that's "Deus Ex Machina". Or, Dude-she-slept-with-Ex Machina.
Sophomoric humor. Thought most of the jokes fell flat. 🤷🏼♂️
agreed

Oh ohhhh-the look on your faces have me wondering…the thumbnail picture of your faces is cute though-much love you two💕💕
…about to watch this review😎😊
10:26😱💀
…am going to sit this one out…thanks for the review-loved hearing about the movie though😎
9:18 OK, but that sounds pretty funny, though. Steph Hsu is my leader.
This sounds terrible guys. The trailer and clips didn’t get me interested.
Shut it 😒😒😒
I dunno the clip
where the characters are kids and first met and one if them cursed out the racist white boy got a chuckle from me. But I'm not sure from this review.
@@nancykerrigan I don’t see it making making much money but, who knows.
@@RavensOsFan89saw last night, was highly entertained
I loved the movie and thought it was hilarious especially the WAP scene. Sometimes you guys take things too seriously 😒.

I did not like this movie at all lol. Had high hopes, and liked the cast but ultimately it fell flat. 4/10
Hollywood forgot how to do good comedy after 2020 lol.
After 2010.👀
Idk 22 jump street came out in 2014 and that’s a classic lol. Also game night borat 2 2010s had some classic comedies imo .
The trailer of this movie is crass, very low class humor. Not seeing it
lol the movie is good your missing out.
I hate the movie....what crap!!!!
