Maliwan takedown is hands down my favorite piece of endgame content from any borderlands game. The valkyries are a fun boss to fight and the wotan fight is absolutely unmatched in how chaotic it feels. Its the shining gem for me in bl3
i feel like the hemovorus fight is more chaotic from all the projectiles everywhere, the wotan one i think is probly the easiest, but the design of the GT makes it way longer, and running hemo is costly with no real reward outside of accomplishment lol. Scourge is actually my favorite raid fight in 3, just becuz its the worst map to run, makes it feel that much more satisfying to beat it regardless of the drops
I’m surprised to see it as some peoples number one, I really didn’t like the takedowns or anything endgame wise that the 3rd game did. Too each their own!
I swear if Eista the sometimes appears as an Invincible but definitely isn’t an invincible but did say Invincible above his name at one point but didn’t have any raid boss mechanics isn’t on this list I’m gonna lose it
Honestly, an overlooked boss who is *not* a raid boss is EOS from the Pre-Sequel. You simply can not beat killing Space Station Helios but with Claptrap's insecurities.
the bosses are IMO, the best in all of BL3 and one of the reasons (besides the fights not lasting .2 seconds like non-raid bosses) is that the immune phases are interesting and not just you standing there watching them essentially perform a long uninterruptable emote. theres actually stuff you have to do and even more that is not just shoot a couple things but running jumping, surviving, and doing things besides just tearing through a couple minions or just waiting. theres some base game and dlc bosses that i think could be hugely more fun if they were given raid buff treatments/an option
@@Junkmeister its even worse on the true guardian takedown, during 2nd crystal part. but the regular one isnt that bad. alot of really good stuff is more accessible than ever now between the events all being available permanently, as well as the loot from the true trials bosses.

Terramorphous was my first raid boss, so that goes to my #1 spot. I like the boss fights from the BL3 Takedowns. Wotan and the Better Half are really close second behind Terramorphous. The entire Wotan fight is even better since Wotan can spawn in Hoplites, Arbalests, spheres, etc. so you can get a mix other enemies and not just the Maliwan troops. That bit of enemy mix is something Gearbox should include in future raid boss matches.

with the invincible sentinel I also really enjoyed her normal phase as well as I find the fight flighty and flowery like a dance and its a really good time in general when playing the pre sequel
The Sentinel is one of the best raid boss imo. I love that its not impossible to beat solo, literally beat him first try in normal mode without having to farm for hours for the best loot or having to respec for the most optimal build.
Killing Sentinal solo with melee only Athena was so satisfying 😌 I also remember having to glitch under the map with Norfleets n Sham shield to solo Verasidius because it was so tuff. Good times 😊🤙
Borderlands 3 is so much fucking fun and easily the best Borderlands in terms of gameplay. I hate that people shit on it for Ava and the Calypsos as if riveting storytelling and deep, interesting characters are suddenly a series staple.
My favorite raid boss is Ancient dragons. Eridiums and Seraph items are all good rewards and the fight is unique. Order of landing dragons changes the difficulty easier or harder. Green-Blue-Red-Slag is the order I usually kill.
i totally agree with number one. sometimes i’ll even dial the mayhem level down from 10-11 all the way to 4 to just feel the pride and joy of how much work i’ve put in, knowing that at the start of this game mayhem 4 maliwan takedown was the hardest endgame content.
Maliwan takedown is easily my favorite, but the first raid boss experience for me was Terramorphous. I remember picking up the quest and dropping into is arena and trying my best to kill him and end up doing so.
My issue with the Sentinel is that its just the final boss of the story again with buffed HP and Damage. As bad as Master Gee and Vora are, they are atleast not just a weaker boss beefed up.
@@Ki11ersix The Sentinel is a cool fight, probably my favorite final story boss in the series outside of DLC, but Pete the Invincible atleast had different mechanics compared to Normal Pete. Sentinel is just the same fight again.
For me the main question during raid bosses was always 'is this fun to do?' Unfortunately, most of the BL2 raid bosses were not, for me, fighting them (minus using glitches) was just doing the same exact thing for 10+ minutes, even if I had nearly end-game gear, and almost always revolved around guaranteed damage, which I hate as a core mechanic. Make it very hard to avoid taking damage, make it punishing, sure, but don't punish me for playing well anyway. Voracidous in particular for me was like a montage of what not to do in boss design. But I was pretty thrilled that in both TPS and in BL3, one of the biggest jumps in quality was in boss design; even normal bosses in TPS were a lot more interesting than anything I ran across in 2, and both EOS and the Sentinel were massive steps forward; I was really quite happy to see Sentinel in this list, because I do feel like that boss fight was massively underappreciated, as was the game itself (sadly by the developers as well.) BL3 continued that trend; the raid bosses are actually interesting, they don't restrict you to 'Oh, you're not using a glitch or a Moxxi weapon? Prepare to sit here for 30 minutes, or just die now and save us all the bother.' They have mechanics, they reward you for paying attention to the fight itself rather than just your gear, and they give you just enough breathing space that it feels fun rather than a slog. Definitely agree with the Maliwan Takedown and Wotan being in the top spot. Both to me are examples of how to make end-game feel really fun to do. They're difficult but not unreasonably punishing or restrictive, they're rewarding, and the pacing is excellent; although I do like the Guardian Takedown as well, that is one thing they miscalculated on, there's too much standing still in one area. To me Borderlands is at it's most fun when you are progressing through a chaos of bullets, explosions, lasers, and giant creatures with terrible manners trying to headbutt you.
the best part about the krakens and wotan (even the krakens outside of the takedown) is that the legs can be destroyed for more loot after the enemy is killed
I think that the Valkyries are notable because of how the arena uses fall hazards well. The ledge at the far end of the platform and the gaps around the center force you to watch your positioning, but it's not like walking a tightrope to avoid falling down them (like in parts of Guardian Takedown) and you don't have to worry about adds constantly trying to knock you over the edge (like in the Anathema fight specifically). It's that little extra touch that keeps your attention on the arena instead of just bunny-hopping around shooting wildly. Going forward, I want to see a CoV Takedown where we have to fight through a secret base somewhere filled with Troy's freaky purple supersoldier experiments. Maybe think up some Mayhem 8 exclusive gear to drop from it (and from bosses whose loot pools could use a little extra).
Still fondly remember the dozens of hours spent sitting right past the eldge in Crawmerax' arena and just bombarding him with rockets without any chance for him to fight back.
the first time I tried the Maliwan takedown I was woefully under geared, had a poor min max load out, and was solo. I got to Wotan and got passed the first phase with reletive ease. After that, I hid in a corner and used my Corosive Phasegrasp to deal damage from a distance to get around his barrier. It ended up taking me a couple hours to complete the entire takedown, and many many lives, but I was satisfied beyond beliefe.
I gotta say, the Maliwan takedown had the greatest glow up of any borderlands content to date. It shows that sometimes it's not the content itself that holds it back, but the balancing. I can't tell you how much of a nightmare Malian takedown was at launch, but thank God all it took was to turn off 4 player scaling. Otherwise, wotan is so good that it almost feels like a monster hunter fight.
Maliwan takedown never gets old even when I'm doing great destroying everyone thinking I'm going to beat my time and I accidentally fall off the edge 😂🤦
I always remember Terromorphous as the raid boss I decided I wanted to do way underleveled so I took two characters there that were in the early 40s(it has been close to a decade so I don't quite remember) and sat one character on a ledge in the arena that Terramorphous could not reach but was still in the arena so his health wouldn't respawn and then spent like 4 hours whittling his health down. And if you are wondering if it was worth it. No not at all, the game froze before I could actually kill him.
I finished Borderlands 1 and 2 years ago and i i didn't finish pre-sequel because hardware problem. I recently play Borderlands 2 again and my oh my i still feel amazed on how on earth people could play like that. Just spam without worries about their health and fight to death. I always feel conscious about my health and shield
@@Ki11ersix that's perfectly understandable, I'm a fan on the movement from the effervescents and taking the fight longer than just... insta killing it 🤣
I genuinely hate hemovorous tbh, just find him really disappointing. The first (and only) standalone raid boss in all of BL3 and despite being the latest piece of content has like... no mechanics? After the takedown Invincibles I was expecting some great actual raid boss mechanics but it's really just a big bullet sponge with some annoying barely avoidable attacks. Also honestly I know people didn't like the pre-sequel using the last boss as a raid boss, but I'd love a toggle for the BL3 vault monsters to make them Invincible. They have pretty good mechanics if they can survive more than 3 seconds
yo, im down with this list, for a second i didnt think terra was gonna make it, but i say no.2 is def a well deserved place for him, also im biased cause terra is my fave raid boss of all time lol
It’s so nice to see you still defend Bl3. Yeah the story wasn’t perfect but the gameplay was still super good. It’s still enjoyable to me and I have an itch to replay it again
While I've tried all of these at least once my favorite ones were Krieg vs Terra and Salvador vs Son of Cramerex. I had a blast playing each of those with those characters...
I would like to see borderlands make some sort of arena like they did with bl2 dlc campaign of carnage, but with more bosses within the arena. Would be fun.
the greatest honor i give to a part of the game is occasionally going back and doing that part when i’m bored. for skyrim i admire scenery and for bl3 i run maliwan takedown, so it makes me really happy to see it at #1
When I haven’t played for a while, I’ll go back in and do Wotan. If I’m feeling to see if I “still got it”, I’ll do Hemo/Vermi. They are still a decently challenging fight, but still not that hard. My toughest BL3 fight is probably the Guardian takedown. I can do it on normal, and it’s not the bosses themselves, it’s the journey there. I can end up falling off the map or other things like that, and with it being the most time consuming raid, starting at the beginning, or even right after Anathema, it drops you like 20 minutes. It’s super annoying. I could do 3 full Maliwan takedowns in a flawless Guardian takedown. Overall, the scaling with BL3 Raid Bosses vs BL2 Raid Bosses seem to be more balanced. Until I realized that that was a good thing, I was a bit disappointed at how easy the got, compared to BL2. I want the kills to be rewarding (not the loot, but the kill itself), so with really really hard fights and how unbalanced it was, I couldn’t beat them all. But then everyone finds things to practically insta-kill them. I wanted to be able to beat them (as at least half of the BL2 bosses I didn’t even attempt, lie, but big fail), but not as easily as we can in BL3.
I remember fighting Wotan solo for so long just so in the end one of his parts would go under the ground and I couldn't finish the takedown, i was so freaking mad
Terra is the coolest looking IMO and the most fun for me was hyperius or pete (for farming). Didn’t really like the takedowns or end game/raid bosses as a whole in 3. Wish the pre sequel had a couple more raid bosses as it’s end game was non existent Also there shoulda been a boss that can drop any legendary in the game
great list Can you do a top 10 Maps video? I like the dust from BL2 and all of the maps at the end of Bl1 were way ahead of their time. Do you rememeber the first time you did sledges safe house? LOL Necratapheo was awesome in BL3
Crawmerax will always hold a special place for me. After failing non stop with Roland I finally decided to go through the game with Lilith just so I could clap that bastard.
The Maliwan Takedown is alright. I have only been able to beat it on Mayhem 10 with Flak. Tried with Moze but I don't have great weapons with her. Same with Amara. The biggest problems I actually have with the Takedown is the Badass cyber dogs on the bridge. I can't seem to have anything close to an easy time with them. They take forever to take out or the jump around like a rabbit hopped up on cocaine either way it's just a slog for me.
I know people shit on the bl3 take downs alot but I agree with wotan and the valkyries as number 1. The takedown in true takedown is a challenge on its own The valkyrie fight is interesting in how they all share q massive health bar similar to the dragons. And you fight one at a time before all 3 jump you. Wotan tho having phases is fun as hell to fight. Once you are through the first couple phases rhe real fight begins When he splits. The fight is hard and the three chances for some really fun guns In the tiggs boom the kybs worth and the redistrubitor Make this fight over all a fun one for me. Sure the guns aren't the best but their fun to use. And that's what matters to me. If a gun is fun to use Then it's worth it in my eyes.
I've probably attempted the Maliwan Blacksite 15-20 times, but can only count the number of times I've beat Wotan on one hand... I've got a split second of controller lag for aiming on my PS4 (original 500gb version) which makes aiming for crits or just hitting any flying or fast moving enemy a pain to do, and my computer gets close to overheating whenever I play BL3 on it so I'm not even finished the main story on it yet...
something i like a lot about this list is that it shows how good some of the bl3 content is, i see it getting hate and people complaining that wonderlands is just gonna be another bl3, and all im thinking is i hope so i have so much fun in bl3, especially co op.
Craw feels the best imo. Especially since there was nothing like it, like a hidden ending. I wish non-crits still did damage tho but something ridiculously low like 5%
Dude… well rated on all! But I got to say, before the Fl4k nerf, I could have easily taken them all out solo on Mayhem ten should that have been a thing at the time… at the same time I’m glad Fl4k got nerfed, was to fucking op on the crit tree and with the new Shield Pet Tree, Fl4k and the Loader would be broken to the end of days…
I was really hoping for headhunter packs to be released for BL3. Quick mission with gearbox humour, cute map to hide vault hunter lore Easter eggs and big bosses with unique drops all with mayhem levels instead of OP levels. Me: *hands gearbox a ball*; you dropped this.
I want to get excited for Wonderlands, but instead I'm finding myself concerned by how they haven't shown us any extended gameplay yet. Also, where are the skill trees? Is the game not ready yet or is there something they're trying to hide about it? I want to be prepared to pre-order but it just doesn't feel like they've really shown us the game beyond a handful of 2-3 minute ads 🤷🏻♂️
I disagree about the part where you said Anathema and Scourge didn't have "loot worth chasing." Anathema has 2/3 drops which are some of the best gear for endgame with the Stinger shield and the Lightspeed grenade, both of these having builds which use the Nova/Grenade themselves for as the main source or delivery of damage. Scourge has the Globetrottr which is fantastic on those Hustler/Eraser Zane builds as well as the Smog which IMO is still a solid weapon, if not one of the best Hyperion SMG's (yes, better than the Redistributor). Good video, great to see elements from your twitter discussions such as all the BL3 bosses that are tanky if not strictly labeled as raid bosses.
@@Ki11ersix I’ve also been getting really lucky on my first play through because I keep getting random legendaries but I’m going to learn the drops for each boss or enemy and I don’t know it like I know bl2 cuz I know every drop in bl2 lol
I agree with the dislike of Hadarax, his mechanics are too specific and harsh. Its a virtually unwinnable fight without instantly downing him and going for the mouth, and when that works it feels too cheesy, no good middle ground in the way so many of the other had with thrilling back and forth, strategy diversity, momentum and phases. Personally would have swapped sentinel and BL2 vermi for the niche of being secret and having such good loot while sentinel is just the story boss with more health. Top 3 are spot on.
I find all the raid bosses to be fun except the BL3 ones for a decent reason. Takedown bodies are raid bosses or at least similar 🤷♀️ I'll put the together They have immunity phases which kind of ruins the flow, Anathema is fun and the immunity phases are simple and relatively fun to sit though however, Scourge felt like a poor man's destiny raid boss. Nonetheless, I went after Herm and Verm numerous times and had fun, more fun than a lot of the BL2 raid bosses honestly enough.

I spent a lot of time with those dragons and that stalker raid boss from hamerlocks dlc
Ahhhhh, that Skyrim jump into the corner in Pete's arena. :)
I personally would have swapped Hyperius with Haderax, but overall great list with solid reasons
I just don’t like Haderax at all.
I actually %100 agree with this tier list. If I were to explain my top 10 raid bosses I would just quote the entire thing.
yo, im down with this list, for a second i didnt think terra was gonna make it, but i say no.2 is def a well deserved place for him, also im biased cause terra is my fave raid boss of all time lol
Hemorverous launching those swarms of bugs is insanity. It's a roll of the dice wether or not I get downed during the onslaught.
I would have put Haderax at #2 personally. Fighting him with the speed and jump boosting gear on was such a unique and fun experience.
Pre sequel tho I wouldn't really say unique and it's not like u had the buffs all the time u had to wear a certain shield and gun for it
I just dislike Haderax
Wotan's OST was an absolute smasher, just his boss theme alone makes him deserve the first spot on the list imo.
New and cool Pearlescents, decent and tough raid Boss ( or loot pool) - success!
Raid bosses are always cool. I did all of them with a friend and those are some of best memories I have with the games
I loved the pre sequel my only complaint was that I wished it was longer. I’m happy you put the sentinel as high as you did on the list.
believe it or not but my number 1 would be master gee, simply because the strategies to fight him were so unorthodox
I hate Gee
I remember fighting Wotan solo for so long just so in the end one of his parts would go under the ground and I couldn't finish the takedown, i was so freaking mad
Terra is the coolest looking IMO and the most fun for me was hyperius or pete (for farming). Didn’t really like the takedowns or end game/raid bosses as a whole in 3. Wish the pre sequel had a couple more raid bosses as it’s end game was non existent
Also there shoulda been a boss that can drop any legendary in the game
great list Can you do a top 10 Maps video?
The takedown in true takedown is a challenge on its own
The valkyrie fight is interesting in how they all share q massive health bar similar to the dragons.
And you fight one at a time before all 3 jump you.
Wotan tho having phases is fun as hell to fight.
Once you are through the first couple phases rhe real fight begins
When he splits.
The fight is hard and the three chances for some really fun guns
In the tiggs boom the kybs worth and the redistrubitor
Make this fight over all a fun one for me.
Sure the guns aren't the best but their fun to use.
And that's what matters to me.
If a gun is fun to use
Then it's worth it in my eyes.
Looks like you need an upgrade.
something i like a lot about this list is that it shows how good some of the bl3 content is, i see it getting hate and people complaining that wonderlands is just gonna be another bl3, and all im thinking is i hope so i have so much fun in bl3, especially co op.
Amen
Craw feels the best imo. Especially since there was nothing like it, like a hidden ending. I wish non-crits still did damage tho but something ridiculously low like 5%
I will never forget Boganella and the Doppelganger. I love the sequell actually
Dude… well rated on all! But I got to say, before the Fl4k nerf, I could have easily taken them all out solo on Mayhem ten should that have been a thing at the time… at the same time I’m glad Fl4k got nerfed, was to fucking op on the crit tree and with the new Shield Pet Tree, Fl4k and the Loader would be broken to the end of days…
there are giant monsters fighting at the ancient dragons chest room?
how have i NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE
Keep up the good work
I was really hoping for headhunter packs to be released for BL3.
Wait for the next Hotfix
I disagree about the part where you said Anathema and Scourge didn't have "loot worth chasing."
Anathema has 2/3 drops which are some of the best gear for endgame with the Stinger shield and the Lightspeed grenade, both of these having builds which use the Nova/Grenade themselves for as the main source or delivery of damage.
Those drops are good, but for the toughest takedown they should have been Pearlescents and should have been OP
To this day, I have yet to beat a single "raid" boss... I just could never dedicate enough time to get the right item setups. :(
I could help you with some of them I’ve done a few solo not all of them though
Captain haunt had the best jakobs revolver, I don’t remember it’s name but it has crazy lightning damage
Hope you would try the True Trial mode of Trial of Instinct on Mayhem 10. Can't seem to half the guy's HP with just base game items
I have so many bad memories trying and waiting to get Vermi to spawn in BL2
Also, Maliwan Takedown is great, the Valkyrie Squad is such a good boss
0:20 The fact that you're holding your harold in your left hand, and holding your grog in your right hand is a crime.
Good.
I feel like if they do add pearls to Bl3 they should add the norfleet as one and give it to Vermi.
I feel special now. I solod the dragons with Krieg years ago.
Man I just started playing bl3 and it’s so fun the gameplay is amazing
Right?!
Yeah the story is ok which is what most people told me but aside from that the detail and gameplay works beautifully
@@Ki11ersix I’ve also been getting really lucky on my first play through because I keep getting random legendaries but I’m going to learn the drops for each boss or enemy and I don’t know it like I know bl2 cuz I know every drop in bl2 lol
Lootlemon.com is a great resource
@@Ki11ersix thanks man 🙃
Wotan is German for Odin btw
There better be raid bosses in tiny Tina's wonderlands!
Joey should be higher, the use of side enemies are so good
This brings back memories
1:40 what even is that? I never noticed that before
Golem vs Mimic Easter egg
The final boss from the claptastic voyage did feel like a raid boss
8:40 what gun is that???
Hey K6, how about doing a top 10 pistols in Borderlands games? Hell, a top 10 weapon types for all weapons across the Borderlands franchise so far?
looking at the raid bosses from 2 (i never played it enough to get that far) i really wish we had more in 3.
