My husband wanted the rug from the Big Lebowski, so we found one just like it. It’s very busy, but it does tie the room together.
I bought the plain wool Arvin Olano rug in fawn and it's so so good. Very plush and the way it's woven gives it a slight pattern so it doesn't look like boring carpet. My dogs just tracked mud on it this morning and it wiped right up. If you're on the fence, definitely get it! I also have to say that the new plush rugs from Ruggable are great too. I have a 9x12 from the AD collection and it's my favorite rug in the house.

Always contact the vendor and ask what kind of wool the rug is made from. If the wool is from New Zealand, England, or Ghazni wool from Afghanistan, it's high quality. If the wool is from India or Pakistan, it is likely poor quality. I've found that Golden Nile usually has very good deals on high quality oriental rugs

My secret to getting any “higher end” box store rug, is getting the clearance floor models or seasonal clearance. One of my most recent scores was a hand tufted wool Crate and Barrel rug 9x12 that I only paid $150 for. It was a floor model and only needed to be vacuumed, 2k rug for Pennies basically.

I've been hyper fixating on rugs for the last week so this is great timing lol. The other day I ordered a very large hand knotted wool rug on etsy I've been looking at for a year, excited to get it. It won't be as thick as I like but I did decide in this one instance since I loved it so much, I'd make a sacrifice there. I've been looking for a whole year and didn't find anything I loved as much for my loft area.
Ive actually been thinking about getting one of Arvins rugs for my livingroom as well, the brick coloured one. They look so thick and the subtle colour varitations in the solid rug is beautiful.

30 years ago we bought a 9 x 12 rug from India that was all browns. Paid a bunch. It got a bit of moth damage a few years ago but not too noticable. It got the moths because I went on marketplace and bought a persian rug that unknown to me had moth eggs. Only way I would buy a marketplace rug again is to treat before it came into the house.
I don't live where I can buy these, probably... but I loooove getting inspired by these types of prints and styles. I also do photoshop with these types of rugs as background for my collages.

it's shockingly hard to find good affordable rugs, so many great tips Paige! I also really like Revival Rugs, they have tons of vintage options and their own line as well, some are a little pricier but tons are super affordable! I got a gorgeous, super plush/comfy 6x9 rug for $500, and I'm eyeing up a few of their vintage ones as well

I appreciate low pile, affordable rugs since my cats will use it as a vomit platform and sometimes even a litter tray. They don't care if they ruin a handwoven Peruvian rug that I carried back to England (proven fact).

I bought two large vintage wool rugs (8x11 approximately) on an auction website, one was 110 € and the other one around 200 € (+ shipping 40 € for both). Both buchara rugs that Paige mentioned. You can find a buch of cool rugs in auction websites, just have to be patient to find just the right one. The seller advised mine to be washed, but even with the professional wash the price was super affordable for what I was getting.

Thanks for the Etsy tip! I just saw a 10 x 14 cool, modern wool rug in AD that was $3000+ on the website of the company being touted but only $1200+ on Etsy. It looked identical. That was a revelation.

I found a brand new Ralph Lauren Persian style area rug at Ross for $179 to fill up the dining room at my mom’s house. I found it by accident and had to get it because it was too good of a deal to pass on. You’d be very surprised what you can find at these discount stores if you know how to hunt for good deals (discount home stores, flea markets, estate sales, ebay and other online marketplaces, etc).

Gabbeh rugs ARE persian rugs, they're a type of persian rugs: i know paige never pretends to be an expert but just for knowledge. it would be like saying I love me a good mid century chair but i sometimes prefer an Eames chair.
