Hi, I hope you have figured out by now that that top is supposed to be that tight. It will stretch, but over years, not days or weeks... You want it tight, very tight, so it will last for those years of slow stretching. I have owned my '99 TJ since Sept of '99. It had 3.3m on the OD when I drove it off the lot, she has over 280k miles on her now... She's lifted, locked, etc. and I put in her 2nd engine and 3rd transmission. I've had 4 tops and 2 bikinis. As this went up last year I'm sure you have since figured out that for the side and rear windows (the part you seemed to have had the most trouble with), once the main top is up you 1. Start with the zippers, zipping each of the 4 (both sides and the 2 rear) about a foot only (never all the way, as that puts way too much tension on the side windows and makes the belt rails near impossible to pop in), 2. then you pop in the belt rails, first down the door surrounds, then across the bottom of the side windows 3. then you use the POWER of those nice BIG zippers across the top of the side windows, first one side then the other, to pull everything together and put tension across the whole rig, 4. then you take the rear window tailgate bar, pull it down and rotate to pop it into the retainer clips, 5. then you pop the small side tabs into the belt rail on the retainer clips, 6. then you again use the POWER of those large zippers and zip down both side of the rear window, 7. then reach up and tighten up the upper 3 rear window straps, and lastly 8. you hook in and tightening the exterior corner straps... in that order. I love this top... it is tight and clean and quiet and it looks great... and it will last for years before it loosens up enough to start giving trouble. It's designed to be this tight. Good on ya man... keep up the good work! =/|)=
Hey man thanks for making this video. It’s winter here and I ended up putting my top on at night. I couldn’t have done it without watching this video first.
Wow, that was painful to watch! Thanks for being patient and getting the job done! I travel for my job which makes it inconvenient to go topless while I'm on the road. I will be selling my hardtop and going with the Rampage Trail-Top in the next few weeks.
Amazon links to the products in your videos would be nice. Finding door surrounds is a little bit of a challenge. You could get some affiliate on the side too. Thanks for the TJ vids!
Door surrounds are more common on Craigs List in the spring, you should be able to find them on eBay. I was an Amazon affiliate 2x, but they cancelled me for not enough views. That was a while ago, I;m gonna try again. Thanks for Watching
Thanks buddy!! Great video. Mine comes in tomorrow and it’s pretty chilly here in MD so not sure how I’m gonna do it HAHAHA. Will maybe have it close by my fires place for an hour or two. Thanks again! 👍🏾🙋🏾♀️
How is your top holding up after a few months? I have considered buying this top but many of the reviews are poor. I currently have a frameless Smitybilt top which is very similar except the rear straps go under the top. In my experience this makes it a pain to adjust. So since mine is getting some age on it I was considering replacing it with a rampage.
I've had this top for 3-4 years now. Went through 2 side panels and 1 rear. Vippers keep falling apart. I'm done with it. Looking for a different type now.
I’m looking at getting this top for mine after watching your vid if I was to take the cushions of the roll bars would that help until it has time to stretch out?
My factory sound bar was really the most protruding thing above the roll bar. On my daughters jeep she has a Vertically Driven brand sound bar and it wouldn't interfere as much. Good luck.
you need to zip up the zippers 1st then do the plastic rail thingies, check out "JD Blackwell " post from a month ago also. itll fit with sound bar no problem!!
@@AxlesGarage Am I correct in assuming that you didn't have a top originally? I am asking because you had to purchase the door surrounds. Also I wanted to say that should you need any other used parts you should come down here to North Carolina and I will carry you around to all the salvage yards. There seems to be a lot of Jeeps in them around here. You can find anything from buttons and switches for the interior to outside body parts. Not to mention that in NC you can go from 4 wheeling in the sand by the ocean to doing some seriously fun 4 wheeling in the mountains all in one day if you don't mind the drive. Lol
But thanks for the video. I've been debating back and forth on the Smittybilt ComboTop and Bestop Trektop NX. Then I came across the Rampage and found your video while looking for reviews
@@AxlesGarage you got the job done so it's not really a wrong way but really risked tearing it and probably made it harder than it needed you should pop the plastic inserts for the windows in before zipping it all the way

Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.

We really did like the trail top. However we did find that we seldom took it completely off, and mostly used it as a Bimi top. Thanks for watching.

You can do it!

Top is holding up great, no signs of damage or early wear. I'm doing a 6-month review in a few weeks
Axle's Garage outstanding. I will be waiting.
Working on it next week

Sorry to hear that, we had it for 2 seasons without issue. We did however put the Hardtop back on for winter.
I have one on the way. Thanks for all of the information. This will help a lot with the first time installment
Glad it helped
Hey Man U got a nice TJ
Thanks
I’m looking at getting this top for mine after watching your vid if I was to take the cushions of the roll bars would that help until it has time to stretch out?
Yes that would help. I think my soundbar was the biggest issue. It just needs a little more to go on easy. Thanks for watching.
I also have the sound bar thanks for the feedback 👍
My factory sound bar was really the most protruding thing above the roll bar. On my daughters jeep she has a Vertically Driven brand sound bar and it wouldn't interfere as much. Good luck.

Does this top work with the stock door surrounds for full steel door?
Yes. That is what I had. Thanks for watching.

Yes, we had nothing. Jeep came with a hardtop only. Thanks for watching.
@Chris Thompson we may just take you up on a trip south.
Try using a hair dryer to heat up the fabric to stretch it. Should make the especially difficult spots easier
Great idea, Thanks for watching.
Lol yeah right after I posted that I heard in the video where someone suggested the same thing
But thanks for the video. I've been debating back and forth on the Smittybilt ComboTop and Bestop Trektop NX. Then I came across the Rampage and found your video while looking for reviews
You were taking so long I thought your sons hair had grown down past his shoulders ; then I realized it was your daughter !
Thanks for watching
Can I use the factory tailgate bar?
Yes
Where's your blazer..?
We will have some Blazer videos coming soon.
Lay it in the sun it will stretch and make sure it is 75 or higher
Yeah, next time for sure. Thanks for watching.
Do not put this top on like this guy please
Worked out very well, we had that top on for 2 years until we sold the Jeep. Thanks for watching.
