She must be around 29 now and hitting her peak vocal abilities (Maturing) I hope she never goes the superficial pop route . I am not a Celine fan per se, but Celine's version is majestic and powerful and her style is in a lower register and indomitable on this song. Now Hayley is one of my most favorites with her pure natural voice style, a clean and a true soprano. Even though Hayley is a wisp of woman her opera training allows her to belt it out to match anyone when singing a more classical crossover piece.

Hayley has a beautiful voice and I enjoy listening to her sing. In my opinion though, she can't hold a candle to Celine Dion in singing this song. Even the best singer in the world can't sing every single song and do them all justice.
nearly a decade later id agree as celines been through some shit to make her voice sound less than perfect like age and helth problems. but at the time this was filmed celine could wipe the floor with this amateurish sounding warbling cat. ive herd some of hayleys stuff and she could have done so mutch better than this that its beyond a joke. this was a serious off day for her and the vibrato just served to make things worse. .
@@ZonZorZerx What makes Celine different to all or most covers is she is able to tell a message or story and create an atmosphere in the song. Some might sing it better hitting high notes, clarity or whatever but no one I have seen so far has been able to show emotion and to tell the story. It's more they just sing the song very well while Celine performs the song if that makes sense.
both Celine's version and Hayley's version are good. They just have different voice tone and color, and also different singing technique, so which one is better? you can't say, it's just the matter of taste. IMO Hayley doing a great job singing this song and I can say it's equally good with the original version. Nowadays many recycled songs from old one brought by younger singers, and most of them is very, very bad (one that I remember, Beauty and the Beast, the new one is so fucking shit). But this? It's not the matter of your singing technique nor how high-pitched your voice can be. I prefer the opposite when the sound of falsetto gives the feelings of the misty ocean in dawn. Whereever your voice can stay, it is the lyrics that enlivens the music - and this song has that MIRACULOUS SPELL THAT MAKES THE VOICE OF WHOMEVER SINGS IT SOUND BEAUTIFUL AND HEAVENLY. It is the chosen words that make the sound, and that's not what the most of other songs have. This song is not for any contest nor competition - that's cheesy childish! If one thinks then they will have to get the sound of HEART first that this lyrics have. There is a lot of great voice on TH-cam but I haven't seen many singers who gave the sound of hart that fully vibrates like a sigh in the frozen sea, or like the feelings of the sapphire necklace slipped from that old frail lady's hand. Please sound more like sighing breaths heard when the lady was near and far from the lover in the frozen sea, like the vibe of heartbeat becoming weaker and stronger.

I am a tremendous fan of Haley, When I found her on youtube I could not believe my fortune of finding her. I watched her in Celtic Women and thought I could not believe how she even outperfomed even their beautiful voices. She has outdone every singer I have heard her cover. Here however she is good but does not improve on Celine. The original singer is many times not as good as others who follow and have time and the advantage of critiquing the original to improve on it. Celine however on this song created a standard that can not be improved upon or even matched.
Out of the 3 Brit/Irish ladies(HAYLEY, CHLOE AGNEW, CHARLOTTE CHURCH), Hayley Westenra is the BEST not only in terms of VOICE/PITCH, NOTES INTONATIONS, but also in terms of LANGUAGES!! She can sing in over 6 different languages!!(Chinese, Japanese korean Italian Latin Spanish, French) in addition to English!! So she is always my fav SINGER
I know Hayley's music well enough to state that I know she is purposely holding back power wise on this piece, Hayley actually does have power in her voice-just marvelously controlled. Celine has a tendency to over-sing the higher notes as is common with many pop stars, As for range...I would say they are on about equal ground. again, there is something to be said about not overdoing it.

A 13 year old soprano prodigy has an emotional and graceful performance of it, and she is considered by many to be the epitome of involvement in the music. Young Jackie Evancho sings this song at her live concerts, with one of the best versions done at her concert in Seattle on 9/15/12. The videos of it are here on TH-cam. A duet with Miss Evancho and Miss Westenra would be great to hear.
