What a fool this girl is! That she did not immediately choose treatment over 18 months in jail is shocking...and just stupid.

She can get her meth in the state jail facility. It is much harder to get drugs in SATA (or most drug treatment facilities for that matter). She had trouble choosing which option she wanted. The judge grew tired of her waffling and sent her to the state jail facility. I am sort of surprised that since that was her first violation that the judge didn't try SAF-P (more jail than treatment but there is more treatment there than in the state jail facility), though, as the term is shorter and she would remain on probation.

As an Australian, I find it insane that criminals can get free mental health evaluations, rehab, or any medical care, yet middle income earners paying tax have to pay for their own. What a strange system.

One must be a criminal defendant to get any medical screening/treatment in Texas & in prison, it's the bare minimum. Texas prisons do offer education & vocational training classes that are excellent. But, yes, law followers pay thru the nose for these things.

What a travesty example against real mental health sufferers. She boo hoos throughout this verbal examination. Too bad. She made horrible choices, not smart adult choices, even with an advantage of a couple years college and a former boyfriend who had 2 masters degrees in teaching. She threw it all away. Let her now criminal son and herself spend their years behind bars-make them very long.

I think about 50% of what she said was lies. Her son is probably in juvenile as that would be easy for the judge or probation to verify but I think most of the rest is a bunch of lies.

When do criminals have to approve their punishment? I felt like I was watching "Let's Make a Deal", Door number 1 Prison or Door Number 2-Rehab and she said "No, No, NO. I can't believe she's receiving Social Security Disability for having "anxiety" and "PTSD" No surprise that the country is trillions in debt.
(and she claimed that SHE was homeschooling her kids (as a teacher, I know what that means. They don't want anyone who could report them to see their kid) then she said that she had a boyfriend with two master's degrees (in EDUCATION- won't touch that). I'm suspect of that claim, probably jail house degrees.)

That is not true plenty of people homeschool successfully and aren't just hiding their kids. My aunt homeschooled all of her kids and every one of them either finished or are still currently in college this is the exception compared to all the homeschooled kids in the US!!

Judge Boyd changes lives, one ruling at a time. She is the most compassionate and fair Judge I've ever watched in court proceedings. She just doesn't turn people out for jail or probation, she actually tries to help them transition back into society a better person for the resources she and her staff offer.

2:11 - "No no no, I want you to listen to my question."
Boyd, you didn't ask a question. You made the statement "So your counsel is telling me you want to be in out patient treatment because you want to take care of your child." Just because you raise the tone on the final word doesn't make it a question.

Not every parent who decides to homeschool is fit to teach their children anything.
So get over yourself. Every time that woman is questioned about something she has an excuse.
She has only completed less than two years of college but decided to homeschool her child.
But it turns out that it’s an ex boyfriend who was homeschooling her child.
Take your feelings out of the equation.

Just look at National scores compared to Internationally, We're Behind thanks to a FAILING Public School system, So Yeah, I think Home Schooled Children have a Better Chance Overall.

I typically agree with most of what Judge Boyd says but I TOTALLY disagree when she condemns parents for making the choice to homeschool their children. Granted, this defendant isn't qualified with her drug use, the public school system is failing as a WHOLE so I applaud parents who take the initiative to sacrifice to take their children's education into their own hands vs sending them with strangers all day that typically don't have their best interest and are already overloaded, overworked, and underpaid.

How many comments are you going to post lol? Have a personal vendetta? For the record, many addicts have cleaned themselves up after a prison sentence- my children’s father being one- he now has a masters and is a drug counselor at a prison. I have 16yrs clean, and I’ve seen quite a few w a similar story. I guess in your world, addicts can commit crimes and they should just be let free…yeah ok
