This is my first time hearing this artist. I must say he has very high level skills. I love that pounding. To combine timing, strumming, fingerpicking, vocals, bottleneck, percussion, tone, and real emotion with such a relaxed and natural spirit is truely art. Thanks for sharing.
I agree a 100%. They're a great band together, at first I thought that John was a solo act on his own. Only after looking further that I found out about the rest of the guys.....jaws dropped..what a terrific act!
tirded tese guys have had an amazing amount of expierience playing live... they used to plat at our uni in bathurst.... 15 yers ago. best live ever... even better tha the recordings
Thanks i actually did a little bit of rsearch and found whihc album and just purchased it the other day, great album, i prefer sunrise over sea personally
erik mongrain, antoine dufour, jon gomm, tommy emanuel, ewan dobson, don ross, don alder, igor presnyakov, andy mckee. thats just off the top of my head. there will never be a "best guitar player"
@ETGuitarist I went into a acrylic nail place to ask. I had 15 Asian women looking at me strange..... and then I ran out the door. Thanks for the reply. I'm a big fan of epoxy and polymers and it makes perfect sense to go "Fake".
@heymottohere not the best... its technique and direction that john know's best, he always uses a 12 string guitar tuned to CGCGCE and that means everything about his instrument is harmonized including a bottle neck which gives it the blues sound. go john!
@MrOnrust Get a wig, some lipstick and high heels...then practice your higher pitch voice and go back. hahaha. Covert operation to get some nails. lol. But on a serious note, ring the place first or get your wife/girlfriend/sister to go in and talk to them on your behalf. Generally some of these places have a small room in the back where they work on people. You might be able to go in there. The beauty place I go to does. But it helps to have a female liason to go and sort stuff beforehand.
hmm well im need maybe 20 years practice guitar before i can play that well, another few years of sing to be able to sing in tune, and then another 10 years to be able to put them both together in such a perfect sync. so basically i will be able to play this when im 50 or 60. thats not too bad ^-^
@R4185 most songs he plays (when on the 12 string) are in open C tuning, which is CGCGCE (yes you tune b string up) if you like this check out ocean - live at max sessions. will blow your brain out your ass
@ETGuitarist or you can stop being such a wimp about it and just go in and ask. If anyone asks, tell them exactly what it's about, and then play them some funky riffZ.
What have you got in the water in Australia????? The best guitarist in the world is from there (Tommy Emmanuel), and this guy certainly is no slouch himself.....

JB is the man. Without a doubt, one of the finest Australian exports of the last ten years.
Greetings from Colorado,
JPP
The version he played at Rothbury 09 blew this one away. He added a special flavor for us that day!
I agree a 100%. They're a great band together, at first I thought that John was a solo act on his own. Only after looking further that I found out about the rest of the guys.....jaws dropped..what a terrific act!
Great performance! One single guy, and the whole band is there.
strange thing just happened while I was lost listening to this beautiful music my hand just moved by itself to the like button and clicked it.
If it's not the best, it's very close. Amazing player. Was privileged enough to see this guy live at Kuranda last year. Thanks for the post!
I remember this was a video from some CD on a guitar magazine! It's what got me in to the JBT in the first place! :)
COMPLETE LEGEND!!! I THINK HE IS THE BEST GUITARIST OF RECENT TIMES......
This one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen, plus this is an amazing performance^^
tirded tese guys have had an amazing amount of expierience playing live... they used to plat at our uni in bathurst.... 15 yers ago. best live ever... even better tha the recordings

@MrOnrust They are acrylic. Real nails break pretty easy playing this kinda thing. Particularly busking in winter...I know, I do. lol
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
ya that one's good too.
John Butler + Newton Faulkner = Acoustic porn.
ДА!

this guy is fuckin amazing!!!
yeah thats where i got it from i reckon im about 20years off playing like that
@Hyetthramine they're acrylics.
@pedrothatguitarist It's an 11 string.
yeah that is the same thing i said, i was telling bmachul that.
Hmmm... I can't see it going over very well. :)
you play the guidar than god!
the best version is the one from the rothbury festival :)
this is fantastic is this on any of their albums?
That was Steve Vai actually.
Does anyone know what's the tuning there ?
tks ! Awesome ;)
@heymottohere not the best... its technique and direction that john know's best, he always uses a 12 string guitar tuned to CGCGCE and that means everything about his instrument is harmonized including a bottle neck which gives it the blues sound. go john!
Is it just me or does that pick where he flat picks sound a lot like funky tonight?
@MrOnrust Get a wig, some lipstick and high heels...then practice your higher pitch voice and go back. hahaha. Covert operation to get some nails. lol. at 0:20 someone's walking behind him :P
@LewisPoldenBaby
its a maton
SLIDE
got TG's dvd of this. great performance, but i prefer Oceans
I want to have his babies
does anyone know the tuning for this?
Did you know
hahahahaha no dude
@Keeponharpin For sure Open C. CGCGCE.
Gosh, who are the 5 idiots who "thumbs down" this video?
pretty sure its open c. As far as i know he plays most songs in that tuning.
Martin. The guitar is a twelve string Martin.
"made that way" ?
You mean hes got a 12 string andjust removed the strings :P
@R4185
most songs he plays (when on the 12 string) are in open C tuning, which is CGCGCE (yes you tune b string up) if you like this check out ocean - live at max sessions. will blow your brain out your ass
haha i love people think this is just another cover... meanwhile.. hes disgustly famous
happy?
@thebesianvein maybe people that dont have hands ?
cara vc veio do inferno?
vem pro Brasil fazer um som...
Why did he cut it man????
Are they real or acrylic? I would think he could play a real nail away faster than it would grow.
This is the shit!!
No he doesn't, he plays on a 12 string guitar with the octave G missing, and the tuning is DADGAD with the extra strings tuned an octave higher.
@ETGuitarist or you can stop being such a wimp about it and just go in and ask. If anyone asks, tell them exactly what it's about, and then play them some funky riffZ.
hes rich?
Sounds good, apart from the obvious GN'R obsession... hehe, it's cool.
and just bc it has 11 doenst defeat the fact that its a 12 string guitar .
an 11 string???? lol its just missing one. other videos show it up close and you can see it.
dare i ask ,... tabs?
are those nails real or fake? they look fake from this vid
I don't think you have been playing for 7 years then bud.
What have you got in the water in Australia????? The best guitarist in the world is from there (Tommy Emmanuel), and this guy certainly is no slouch himself.....
